    Keeping HPS lights cool

    I just bought 400 watt HPS/MH light system and I was thinking of putting a 16'' or 20'' fan right beside it to blow cool air at the bulb so I can put it as close as possible to the plant. Have anyone did this before and how close do you think I can get without burning the plant?

    If you use 400 watt MH about 36,000 lumens or 400 watt HPS lights about 50,000 lumens, I know they get hot and you have to place them about 18'' away from the plant, I wanted to know about how many lumens have you lossif you place them at 18'' and 24''?

    Well, the grow area I'm using will be 2'x2'. I plan on vegging for about 3 weeks on 18/6 then switching to flowering 12/12. I think (12) 30 watt CFLs and (1) 200 watt CFL should work. If not should 24 do the trick?

    So using CFLs isn't a good idea for vegging and flowering. I planned on putting about (12) 30 watt Full Spectrum CFLs around the 6 plants along with the 200 watt Full Spectrum CFL on top of the plants. Do you think I need to put 12 more around the plants to get about 8 oz. or more per plant?
