I've never heard of expensive soil before... A small bag of potting soil, bag of perlite and bag of vermiculite would only cost about $10-15. And you could skip on the vermiculite.

Usually has to do with how plants respond to their conditions. Harder to grow strains would be more affected by temperatures, humidity, feeding, watering etc. So basically its easier to cause harm to those kinds of plants if they're not given ideal conditions.

I don't think you need to upgrade your HPS yet, 450w is more than enough for 3 plants. I'd try vegging longer and adding more light to that stage.

-CFLs keep them around 2-4" above seedlings and you should be good (Which is about the distance from the cubes to the top of the cover) -I wouldn't worry about the temperature too much, the seedlings would like room temp. but a little below won't cause you problems.

They probably won't get to 6ft. Plants usually tend to double in size through flowering, some strain could maybe get closer to three times the size. Realistically they'll probably stop closer to 4ft.

Water it when it needs it, without letting the soil get bone dry. Is there something hard about that?

It really won't hurt either way, the seeds can sprout without any light exposure. Light basically helps by giving your seedlings something to grow towards. Personally I transplant into soil and let them sit for 24-48 hours before light exposure, by that time more than a few will start poking up.

That's bad advice. It doesn't matter if its organic fertilizers, it still needs to be flushed. Flushing won't hurt your plant because you're just doing it once a month or so. If you were constantly trying to give it that much water then yeah its bad and would eventually kill the girl. Give it...

CFLs are probably your best option. Your cabinet is small, those HPS would heat it up very fast. You might be able to use a 150 but anything bigger is overkill.
