The cold would really affect the plants while the lights are off, i would think. Any prolonged temp lower than 1º would definitely kill the plant.

A/C might only slow mold, but mold can grow at around 2º C so if mold is what you are worrying about it would have to be cold/harmful to your plants. Salt?
