Newbie Grow: Come laugh with me, cry with me, hope I succeed, pray I don't fail.

Hello all, First timer here. Figured I would start a thread for those that might want to tag along on my journey. I hope for the best, but take it all as a learning experience. Setup Res: 6 gallon DWC bucket with 4 outlet air pump and 4 disk air stones Medium: Peat pellets in Hydroton Nutes...

First Timer: pH increasing in DWC with small plant

So far my temps have been good. I was using CFLs and just swapped over to the LED, so I don't have much heat buildup. It's in a spare bathroom with the door open, so it gets plenty of air flow. Plus I'm hot natured so I keep the AC set on around 68*. So far res temps have stayed steady around...

First Timer: pH increasing in DWC with small plant

Glad to report the pH has pretty much stabilized. Only increasing slightly, PPMS/EC decreasing slightly, and root growth has exploded. I think it just took a few days to break in and I was having the first timer paranoid worries.

First Timer: pH increasing in DWC with small plant

Lack of backstory on my part, my apologies. This plant was started by a friend of mine in some cheap store soil. It lived, though struggled, for a month before I got it. The root staining was pretty much that color out of the soil. They were thoroughly cleaned before hand. It was placed in a...

First Timer: pH increasing in DWC with small plant

I meant fine as far as color. The initial roots grew that way due to it being started in a small cup so they grew clumped. The new growth is nice and loose, hard to see from the picture since I was trying to get a picture of the color. I'll massage them loose gently though.

    300w LED-Grow

I thought they were being marketed as hps/mh equivalent? So a 300w led is supposed to be equivalent to a 300w hps/mh but at lower power draw.

First Timer: pH increasing in DWC with small plant

The roots look fine. No slime or odor. Just a light brown/tan color (good ole Floranova staining). No sliminess in the bucket or foam/froth. Edit: Picture added of roots

Newbie: pH in DWC rising with small plant/seedlings

Res: 6 gallon bucket with about 5.5 gallons of water Water: Tap water, .25 EC, 7.4pH Nutes: Floranova Bloom Res Temp: 69-70* F Medium: peat pellet with well washed, then low pH soaked hydroton I started with 5.5 gallons of water, sat out 24 hrs with air bubbling. Added 1/4 strength Floranova...

Help figuring out this TDS/EC meter

I bought a TDS/EC meter, but was unaware before buying that it only shows in PPM/EC (us/cm). For the EC I'm showing as 0768. My understanding is I divide this by 1000, giving me a 0768 EC, which is 350 ppm on the Hanna scale right?

DWC - Plant looks droopy and dark green

For anyone following or that may come along in the future. It appears to be somewhat stabilized. The pH has risen to 5.75 over the last 24hrs from 5.5, but I'm hoping it is the pH buffer in the Floranova. Either was it's substantially a lower raise then before. The plant seems to be loving it's...

DWC - Plant looks droopy and dark green

I think I might have it figured out. I'm thinking it was the amount of air (even on the lowest setting on the pump) being put into the small containers. I put in 5.5 gallons of water in my final res (the one I was waiting to use when it got bigger), 1/4 Floranova nutes, and then pH'd down to...

DWC - Plant looks droopy and dark green

That's what I'm using now. The vinegar was a quick fix when I first got the plant and had to wait for my GH pH up/down to come in. I still had fluctuation using it so used vinegar again to insure I didn't have a bad batch. I'm using Floranova Bloom which has the pH buffer, but with only using it...

DWC - Plant looks droopy and dark green

I might be making some progress here. So far I've eliminated the nutes, water, algae/rot rot, hydtroton, vinegar, or bad batch of pH down. I took some nute with water pHd down and let it sit for 24 hours. Stable pH. Added only an air line and air stone. pH climbed from 5.7 to 6.3 in 24hrs. I'm...

DWC - Plant looks droopy and dark green

Hydroton 'test' came back negative. Bowl of Hydroton by itself in pH water only rose by .25 in a 4 hr span (much less than what I'm seeing otherwise). My spare solution (water, 1/4 nutes, and pH down) is still at 5.6 in the bottle after 24hrs, so I know it's not a reaction with the nutes/tap...

DWC - Plant looks droopy and dark green

Air volume is turned down all the way. Some water was used freshly pH'd (after sitting out 24hrs), some was used after being sat out for 24 hrs, pH'd down with 1/4 nutes, then sat 24hrs. Same result. This plant started in soil, but all the soil thoroughly washed away before replanting in...

DWC - Plant looks droopy and dark green

Cleaned roots thoroughly (gently) with straight from the tap chlorine water as found suggested on an older post another site. Thoroughly cleaned res with tap water, rubbing alcohol, flushed with a lot more tap water then dried. Put fresh tap water, pH'd to 5.8, and placed plant back in just the...
