    390-430nm Violet LED’s

I'm sorry if my response sounded a bit rude. I didn't mean for it to be, but I was unsure of what it was that you wanted to know. The OP asked the question and I responded that we had done some trials, but that we had not used COBs. I made that point merely to address the subject title. That was...

    390-430nm Violet LED’s

Well LEDs are LEDs so it depends on the original spectrum, but almost no COBs have UV or near-UV to begin with except Yuji (that I know of – if anyone knows any others, please tell!), so they would benefit just like any other mid-power LED. There's no voodoo with COBs, they are just LEDs, even...

    390-430nm Violet LED’s

Yes, but not with COBs. The effect was a higher percentage of cannabinoids than those grown under UVB. This is our third test on the subject (UVA/Violet vs UVB): https://rollitup.org/t/latest-uva-vs-uvb-cannabinoid-test-results.1052083/

Wow, nice colours! They might give Prawn's a run for their money ;)

You're right but I think it might be an anomoly as it is the only UVB sample we've teted so far that had lower CBG levels than the UVA samples. The purple's nice but I noticed the sampled wasn't purple. Did you hide the good stuff? :bigjoint:

Latest UVA vs UVB cannabinoid test results

We haven't tested larger percentages of UVA so haven't really seen any undesirable results, although we have read reports of too much UVA stunting growth and too much UVB causing significant tissue damage. One disadvantage to running a lot of high UVA is the loss of photon efficiency. If you...
  7. Grow Lights Australia

Latest UVA vs UVB cannabinoid test results

We've done a bit of UV testing. In fact, LED Teknik has done a lot of real-world testing of UV diodes and the tested efficiencies have ranged from 40% up to more than 70%. Efficiency has almost as much to do with the wavelength as it does the manufacturer. For example wavelengths around...

Thanks for the link. It is unfortunate that Professor Bugbee does not go into much detail in that video and seems more interested in promoting Apogee Instruments than actually explaining what UVB and UVA do to plants. One thing that is not always taken into account is the fact that while UVB...

Latest UVA vs UVB cannabinoid test results

@salmonetin I'm not sure why your posts keep disappearing, but I did go to the trouble of translating your last post and I was going to answer it but it is not there anymore :o What I can confirm is that when @Prawn Connery designed the first High Light boards, I know he researched those Valoya...

Latest UVA vs UVB cannabinoid test results

We're running at about 0.5% below 400nm and another 4% or so below 420nm. That's photometric output, which is a little different to wattage as UV and blue light require more energy (watts) to produce than red and far red light.

Hey @salmonetin is your post missing? I thought I saw a link to the Valoya research paper here yesterday. I'm happy for you to post it again – I'm all for sharing information.

It was a side-by-side test. The above photo is the set-up used, however this is not the grow that was tested. For the test grow, there were six plants in the tent: an Afghan-Skunk and Cheesecake on one side, and another Afghan-Skunk and Cheesecake on the other side. Two taller sativas were grown...

Latest UVA vs UVB cannabinoid test results

These are the latest results from our ongoing cannabinoid testing into UVA vs UVB light. The most interesting thing is the results are pretty much the same as the other tests we've done: UVA beats UVB This might surprise some people but this is our third round of testing in two years with 13...
