Would a 2 by 2 by 3 be sufficient for a single mother plant?

So with spring on its way I got really ambitious on my starts, and I have more seeds on its way.

I also have 3 girls at about 11 weeks, and holding out another 8 to 12 weeks till my starts can be moved outdoors to flip into flower is not looking favorable.
My plants are healthy, showing minimum nitrogen deficiency, and thanks to LSTing, I have been able to keep them short, but I foresee myself running out of space for the canopy before early june.

I can get a small 2 by 2 with my limited budget, and I already have a SFK1000, which will be more than sufficient for my starts, but I would like to get as much utility out of anything I purchase, and the idea of having more space to fuck around and find out, is exciting.

TIA

My mom space. Im grafting to one plant but a 2x2’ flood tray I would use if to have 9 moms. I started out with a square foot cabinet for 4 moms so 6”x6” for each mom, I wouldnt recommend that. I got powdery mildew quick.

It was fine until pm is now around. 2x2 would give 4 plants a square foot each is what I would do. The square foot cabint was needing pruning every other day but a square foot for each plant would be a lot better.

Youd be surprised how often youll need to prune them back with a square foot per plant. I collect moms so I got a 3x3 to have as many as I can with ease of use of the extra space. I been buying and selling tents for a while and just now starting to buy once cry once.

The box fan above bar light will prevent powdery mildew just keep it well pruned as it gets bigger. I dont think much about the light this is after market. Its just on 25% all the time they dont need much light but can always bump it up.

Idk your layout of things how many clones youll need but yea one plant 2x2 should provide plenty like 40 just a rough guess. Theyll grow back in a week or two if theyre older too.

My setup is just to hold them, I have a seperate veg tent to veg them out. So if you have that you can use that for main producing clones if you need bulk clones.

Or just take 10 cuts of each strain if you have 4 moms eventually in the 2x2. Happens quick lol if youre lucky and searching hard for them.

Need is a strong word, outside of getting my girls to flower, lol.

Really I want to play around with cloning. I have a Durban Poison seed from a local dispo that I would like to turn into a tent full of plants, if I get lucky with germination and sexing, and I would like to find a pheno that hits in that special way, and replicate till I get sick of it.

But like yourself, the tent would be just used for the mother and my starts.
Thanks!

I've been keeping bonsai moms on a little metal shelf under an LED shop light, more or less following this guide. 4-inch pots of organic soil, fertilize with liquid fish and kelp every couple weeks. Once they stretch up enough to hit the light I trim them back pretty hard, like down to one growing node on each branch, and prune the roots and repot every 4-6 months to refresh the medium.

Edit to add: not sure I really answered your question. If it's just one mom, I'd keep it bonsai style, in which case it could occupy 1x1 of the 2x2 tent in a 4-inch or 1-liter pot, and you still have 3 square feet for all your garden/outdoor starts.

Thanks, I am still learning a lot about this plant and gardening in general, I guess I was worried about the hight, but that assuages my fears about 3 feet being a tall enough space!

In retrospect a silly question to post into the world, but I do appreciate all the input!

Yeah 3 feet seems weirdly short, but plenty of headroom for a small mother plant. Watch the light though, if you're using a "real" grow light you might need to keep it hung right at the top of the tent and/or dimmed significantly. Good luck!

I wouldnt grow in any tent less than 6ft even for moms. I had a 2x2x5 dry tent but took it down to dry in flower tents instead, I still chose to buy a 3x3x6 for mom space. It can come in handy to use it to flower in someday if you decide and its just more ease of use.

With them growing 1x1 or one plant in 2x2 it would be nice to have height. So dont have to lst on top of pruning frequently. I have a 1x2x2 Im going to convert to a seedling starter tent. Idk just saying incade youre looking at a 3’ tall tent.

I use box fans and would like space to have one hung above light. Light will need 12”. Thats with carbon filter inline fan outside of tent.

Wish I could claim this idea as my own. One of my buddies grows his mom like a tomato. He has a wire trellis on side of his tent and weaves the mom through it as it grows. It's like a scrog sideways....it takes up like 6" off the wall.

I keep my grow running from a 3x2 its ample space to keep my 5x5 filled with plants.

I keep 6/10 mum's, I clone everthing 15/20 each time and start seeds it can get crowded but nothing unmanageable.

Cloning in flower is big help to keeping things manageable.

I've flowered, dried and tested the mums and they're still in that tray, 12 strains kept in less than a square foot it's a case of pick your favourites and bin the rest.
