yeah, you were ok to cut it. the bugs would have destroyed it if it went any longer.
you can make some good honey oil out of it if it's too harsh to smoke.
i use pyrethum foggers to clear my room of bugs. lightly fog every 3 days for a week or 2 and they should all be gone. don't do it during late flowering though.
they are little tiny bugs. look at the undersides of the leaves with a magnifying glass. you can still smoke it, but it may crack and pop and the dead bodies burn.
