Grow Journals

I use the following lights
  • Fixtures
    • Area 51 LED (Recommended!)
      • XGS-190 (all white)
      • RW-150 (red/white)
      • RW-75 (red/white)
    • Blackstar
      • 135w (85w actual) UFO (Works well in 4-foot tall tent, but you can do better for the money.)
      • 180w (120w actual) Not recommended.
        • v2 UV (full spectrum, flower)
        • v2 HO (veg)
      • Apollo 4-spot with custom spectrum. Not recommended.
  • Household LED lightbulbs
    • Phillips (Recommended. Most efficient.).
      • A19 8 & 8.5w (60w equiv) with diffusion cap removed (must power through GFI outlet to reduce risk of shock with cap removed).
      • A19 14 & 14.5w (100w equiv) with diffusion cap removed (must power through GFI outlet to reduce risk of shock with cap removed).
    • GE (Recommended, best value. Inexpensive but good efficiency.).
      • BrightStick 10w (60w equiv) with diffusion cap removed (must power through GFI outlet to reduce risk of shock with cap removed).
      • BrightStick 16w (100w equiv) with diffusion cap removed (must power through GFI outlet to reduce risk of shock with cap removed).
    • Cree
      • A19 9.5w (60w equiv) lightbulbs (not the cheap, plastic 4Flow model. Must be glass globe, with cooling fins around base.). (Not recommended. Phillips and GE are better choices.).
      • PAR38 18w (90w equiv) spots/floods. (Recommended. But, floodlight requires 10" distance.).
