    helllo i was loving your post on DIY nutes from 2016. im buying your reccomended nutes. having a problem getting Sodium Molybdate, I have a small bag of micronutes which is supposed to have most of the trace elements, you advise using this or not risk it? i know it would perhaps be more difficult to get the same ratios as your formula or any modern tweaked formulas from 2016?

    Hello churchhaze. i've just read an old thread about water ph regulation.Some of the guys suggested using vinegar/lemon juice for lowering ph.But you said that nitric acid is better. Can you tell me what to use for regulating my water when growing indoors in soil, without burning, damaging my plants? thank you for the information.

    I'd use either nitric acid, sulfuric acid, or phosphoric acid, but since you're in soil, I wouldn't use pH down at all. I'd just add some peat to my soil to make it more acidic.

    Good evening Churchhaze. Any way I can have a chat about formulating my own hydro nutrient recipe? After reading countless threads and playing around with HydroBuddy my final EC/PPM of my stock solutions are always off from my targets when I apply the "10ml of A and B per liter of final solution" I feel this error is causing some kind of nutrient deficiency and or a nutrient antagonism and is hurting my plants badly.

    First off, you said "10mL of A and B per liter". In the U of F recipe I posted on my DIY thread, it was 10mL of A and B per GALLON of final solution!

    Are you feeding 4 times as much as intended!

    The EC in hydrobuddy is just an estimate, and shouldn't matter.

    Try scaling the recipe's concentration factor so you get the desired EC, although I don't even measure EC.

    If you wanted 10mL of each A and B for 1 liter of reservoir solution, you'd need to use a concentration factor of 100x. You'd get lower instrumentation error, but obviously a lot less convenient than 400x concentration factor.

    So do you use one part in your dwc haze !? From start to finish am thinking Fp for veg and ionic grow for flower it's 315 !? An used a bit off silica to ! how about you or you just a one bottle man !!?

    I've been wanting to learn how to make my own recipe, so thanks for breaking things down in the forums. I've been growing in Colorado for these people using Cal Nit, Mag S, and this product called Chem Gro for awhile. Seems to work, but not always consistent. I've been wanting to be more dialed in and make a stock A + B solution opposed to just making enough for each round.

    This is my first post and I joined because of your post and knowledge keep it coming. So interested in mixing my own raw elements. Extremely confusing if your starting from scratch.

    It's very easy to make stock solutions from scratch with the help of hydrobuddy.

    You can't go wrong getting a few pounds of calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate, and monopotassium phosphate and magnesium sulfate.

    Iron sulfate will work if you're mixing directly into a reservoir, otherwise you want iron dtpa 10-11%.

    Honestly, you could grow plants with just those ingredients, but you'll also want to get small (tiny) amounts of sodium borate, manganese sulfate, and sodium molybdate. These ingredients will all work for making a+b stock solutions.

    I doubt you will see much difference in growth rate regardless of which hydro medium you use, as long as you are using an inert media with hydroponic nutrients.

    Growth is good with Mix #17 with an EC of 1.4.

    Hey churchaze, I posted in the heat sink thread has going on about needing something to passively cool my vero 18's. I have six of them and was going to divide them up into 3 each on a large 10" to 12" long sink from heat sinks usa but Supra said I should check out your build that used the 10" profile. I'm not familiar with this could you elaborate on where you got it and if they cut it for you.?

    Hey churchhaze, Can you point me in the directions of some good reading info about the science behind mixing nutrients. Especially articles that elaborate on calculating elemental ppm.

    It's the blog from the guy who made hydrobuddy. Also get hydrobuddy and learn to use that. It's an invaluable tool for designing your own mixes.

    Elemental ppm is just mg/L

    5mg in 1L of total solution is 5ppm.

    The periodic table is how you find the molar mass of each element, and thus the molar mass of entire molecules, and the percentage of each element by mass.

    You think the reason everyone on the forums complains about root rot is because you do hydro differently then most?

    Many people use organic nutrients, organic supplements (with or without them knowing it), and ph down that contains citric acid. Also a lot of people use micronutrients that are chelated (daniel suarez wrote a good article on feeding microbes).

    I use 2 airstones per 4 gallons of water approximately and pump a lot of air. I've never bothered with chillers or bennies, and to be honest haven't heard of anyone chilling their nutes until the last few years.

    Never seen a root rot complaintl...l. Month ofer water. Pretty simple. That's early on to learn. Get a mourner tester for 10 bux.

    Lots of people seem to be freaking-out that I'd damage/kill my plants if I water them with a nutrient-solution of a 4.0 pH, and only you and one other person say that soil will buffer the pH significantly, and that I have nothing to worry about. Watering with a highly acidic solution will be just fine, because the plants are in soil...

    A pH of 4 means nothing at a low concentration.

    If you take a gallon of water and put 1 drop of nitric acid in, the pH will plummet.

    The higher the concentration (ppm) of a solution, the more pH matters.

    If you put that same drop of nitric acid in a concentrated nutrient solution, the pH is barely going to budge.

    The buffering capacity of pure water is 0, so any amount of acid will cause pH to plummet.

    Hey churchhaze. i appreciate u sharing the mono potassium phosphate. i was wondering if you might know where i can find ammonium phosphate in bulk and for a cheaper price than what i get for it from raw-soluables. i am looking for an npk of about 9-61-0. let me know if you know where i might b able to find this. thank you very much for your time!
