i'm actually having one right now, thank you very much.

how do you even post around here with a millstone like that around your neck?

seriously, landlocked iran, domestic oil in alberta, skewed polls, racist revisionist history, forest fires causing global warming, and the like.

where does it end with you? are you just happy to mine the depths of stupidity?
Are you telling us the North Pole ice cap actually disappeared and Al Gore and all them awesome scientists, were right?
Say it ain't so, Bucky.

update:

we were at joe's farm and grill today (which was freaking awesome and i recommend it to anyone in the valley to try) walking our dog around when a kid, maybe 2 years old, runs up to walter to try and pet him.

his mom comes running up behind him and swoops him up before he can pet the dog looking like she is in major panic.

we both tell her that walter is a good dog and would never harm anyone, just a gentle giant, and that her kid is safe and can pet him.

as she was walking away in a fluster she says "no, i'm just worried about the germs".

i regret holding back and not telling her that we weren't worried about her kid giving our dog germs.

welcome to arizona.

Buck...

Have you ever gone to a mexican buffet in north phoenix on the west side of the free way? I forgot the name of it, but there was a miniature golf and arcade next door to the restaurant right off the free way..Anyway that was my favorite place to go to while I was down there..We would play a round of golf and then have mexican dinner..It was over twenty years ago and I am not sure if it is still there or not, but it was a good stop also.....I guess you are in Phoenix , not sure though....

all false.
Actually every bit of the "all false" is correct. De facto if not always de iure, but it is interesting that the juristic protectors of our freedoms stand by and watch while each point Minne has raised is being reified. Can you buy police-level drones and armor? Can you get redress for a forcible service of warrant with destruction or confiscation of property? Can yu defend your privacy at all any more except by the rather unsatisfactory stratagem of being uninteresting? I am a mild-mannered centrist (except perhaps by abandon's definition) and even i see that we are headed inevitably toward revolution. The hope that it happens after i die is hollowed by my wondering what my children will suffer under first the (ultimately unsustainable) polarizing of the regime that is weighting all rights to the State, then the collapse and (?) after ...

Yes, you can buy police level armor. Yes, depending on circumstances, a police department or state will reimburse for property loss IF you were not part of the crime they were investigating.

Yes, you can defend your privacy, abide by the laws and stay under the radar, you will be fine.

I also agree that if the tea-gaggers and far right keep at it, we will see some sort of revolution in our life time. It's almost as if the Democratic party has become the new conservative. (by definition)

I know too many stories of folks who were demonstrably not guilty who received zero reimbursement after a hostile, house-destroying warrant service. The police are above their own law.

This is a variant on "...if you have nothing to hide". Do you not notice the creeping totalitarian bias? What happened to the presumption of innocence that is the proper basis for limiting surveillance?

I think you misunderstand. The revolution won't be about right v. left. Both parties in this nation have rolled to the supremacy of State over individual rights. I cannot buy police-level armor or weapons (incl. nonlethals like real Tasers and pepper spray).

There are secret courts for Gitmo detainees and the Snowdens among us. Fair and transparent redress, a cornerstone of freedom, is gone, man, just gone. And I am emphatically not a Bagger or Libertarian.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) has also been quite vocal about how Americans thinks laws are interpreted and how they are actually being interpreted. This includes the executive power that allows the POTUS to order the execution of an American citizen, regardless of location, without due process based on secret evidence.

How long before you guys see the drone program extended to your shores?

All laws MUST be based on the US Constitution.

What is interpretation? Read it, what does it say? There's no interpretation, there's twisting, there's manipulation, there's restriction of the broad rights granted by the Constitution and it's amendments. "Interpretation" falls in the one of those three. Any law restricting any right, even [] that much, is a law that restricts. End of story.

It's already here.

i tried to think of a more eloquent rebuttal, the best i came up with was: no.

i already knew that, but i still feel warm and fuzzy when centrists make it clear by repudiating.
It's funny you say that. I read cn's response and the only thing I could think of was, "no". I didn't think "No." would suffice and I would be 7 characters short, so I skipped a response entirely.

So neither of you think we're headed toward authoritarian calamity? Rights formerly awarded to people are now being transferred to "persons", corporate entities, and the legislative/judicial system isn't catching up. Society is shifting away from the idea of people's rights ... all the while hoisting the PC illusion that that is just what it is doing. To me that is a formula for eventual revolution, and the picayune fighting points of the entrenched parties are part of the blind.

Many people do not see the benefits offered for liberties surrendered as a bad trade off...

No I do not. I have the ability to obtain the same things I did as a child, in fact more so now than before.

What do you mean shifting away from the idea of people's rights? What rights have been taken away?
