Serious Question About Heat

Hey, i just set up another little grow but heat is a BIG issue.

The grow is in a closet that backs into a corner. I have an oscilating fan near the bottom of the room where there is a hole to let new air in. I also have a squirrel cage fan sucking the air from a 600w HPS. Problem is that the windows are open, everything is moving air, but the air itself is about 90 degrees. I've considered AC units because there is no central air conditioning, but portable ones are expensive as hell. What can i do to drop the air temp and raise humidity?

a/c my man. you can get window units from wallie world or meijer for 100 bucks

ive been dealing with too my friend. i just about lost 5 plants to heat. hopefully i can salvage them a bit. im looking at getting a swamp cooler or worse case ac unit. do you run your light at nite time?

I always run my light at night. i have central air too

mmnnn, your like me then. your going to need a swamp cooler or ac unit. im trying to fiquere out if the swamp cooler is worth the money and is effective. i dont want to spend $150 and it not work, when i could have put that money into an ac unit. however a swamp cooler doesnt cost as much to run as an ac unit.

Swamp cooler or evaporative coolers put a ton of humidity in the air. If live somewhere there is little humidity it probably would be fine. Don't know where that would be in the summer less you live abroad. Anyway that's how they cool by putting a ton of moisture in the air so you cool by the moisture evaporating. Wasn't a option for me. You say you have central A/C how about if you run some ducting closest outlet. Maybe stick a cheap inline fan to pull and push it into your room. I too run lights at night so the only thing I fight is humidity. Tried dehumidifier but it just put out too much heat. Good luck!

A/C units dehumidify and cool the air. they take moister out. same with a evap coolers.. evap coolers run more [FONT=arial, helvetica][FONT=arial, helvetica]efficiently then portible A/C units but work best in dry conditions.
evap coolers have an internal res to catch the humidity water vs. A/C units have gravity drip pans.. for a grow room with out a window evap coolers are easier to work with.

cooling a grow room is tough with these cause you want humidity and they suck it out. if you have a room with 70 degrees and humidity is high in the room.. its gonna feel hotter then a room with low humidity at 70... thats REALLY how Air Conditioners "cool" rooms.. by lowering humidity same with evap coolers.
and a evap cooler can really only drop room tempts about 10 degrees where A/C units can really lower temps. but all A/C cooling equipment is fractory rated and engineered to a max cooling LVL of 70 degrees...

but they both remove moisture/ humidity.... hence the name " evaporative "coolers.

My situation gets even more constrained around air conditioning, as I only have 20 amps TOTAL to work on for my entire house. Put on to that a 600 watt hps and headroom starts shrinking with the addition of two 1.5 amp suncourt fans, pumps for my clone room, flourescent lights, and of course.... The space upstairs where I live. Would upgrade but am renting my location and it is hella expensive... Especially when on old twist fuses....

One really quick fix I found for my room in the past two days:(assuming you have filtered passive intake) Reduce the resistance on your intake by going to the hardware store. Spend 15 bucks and get a 50 cfm bathroom fan and fix it to your intake. Make sure you don't actually put your intake cfm above your exhaust as you will pressurize your room. This dropped my temp 3-5 degrees from the critical 90 I was at.

85-87 is still not where I want to be at night with lights on, but it is gettin' there.... will report back with my experience of my new swamp cooler that gets here tomorrow morning AF-321 NewAir Swamp Cooler Features Built-In Ionizer - FREE GROUND SHIPPING!
Hopefully it doesn't jack the humidity in my room sky high.

they lower humidity in the air it does not put out any humidity. a humidifier adds humidity... swamp coolers have an internal res to catch humidity..like a dehumidifier. u have to empty it once full. theres a float switch in the pan that automaticly shuts off the unit once water levels are full.

Swamp coolers increase humidity. Their function is by having a reservoir full of water, some with ice trays for increased cooling. They the water across big wick mats and then blow air across that. By adding the moisture to the air it typically drops the temperature of the area 5-10 degrees..... They only work very well when the humidity is 15-20%

One important thing with an ac is that you need to have an exhaust far enough away from you that it doesn't kill you with heat, as they exhast HOT HOT air

i have a 50 cfm intake and it doesnt do much for me becuase its sucking in the garage room air. i have an extra 90 cfm that i think im going to switch it out for. i was looking at that swamp cooler your getting, except for the one with 3 fan speeds. i look forward to hearing your results. i think we are in the same situation with heat issues.

for what its worth my room is constantly in the 85-90 range. humidity around 60-65%. i have never had a problem with a grow as long as i keep the air circulating. think about it and in nature there are no temp controls. these babies are used to high heat and humidity. some of the best weed is grown in VERY hot and humid places. temps around 90 have never affected my grows. the pic is of my current crop, grown at 85-90 degrees and 60-70% humidity. don't spend alot of $$$$ .....the difference will not be worth it. same with nutes.....Miracle Grow and Shultz products work as well, and in my case better than all those overpriced weed nutes on the market/.

nah bro it wont jack up your humidity.

I do Plumbing heating and A/C.. Im EPA certified to work on every type of cooling equipment made except motor vehicles. i know whats goin on with this shit.

think of it this was.. you have little water molecules in the air that are heated to 85 - 87 degrees... its REALLY hard to lower that temp with physical elements holding that heat in..they call it "wet Bulb" thats the temp reading of air and water mixture.

that evap cooler or "swamp cooler" is going to remove some humidity to lower that temp as well as blowing cooler air into the room.

if u had 85 - 87 degree water vapor in the air and your dumping 70 degree air in that room that air would turn to 85 faster then the rate the water would cool making it next to impossible to lower the temp in the room.

Agree.... only time a high humidity in a grow is a bad thing is when in flower and you have thick buds. anything over 55% humidity can cause mold to form IF you have shit air circulation .
