There are so many different variables. Even if you make the right decisions you are not guaranteed to have a good job.

I went to college got a degree out of high school. I was employed by the same company for 4 years.

I worked hard everyday, yet I never got a fulltime position. Even when I was promoted from a floor clerk to a supervisor.

I started at 7.25 and after 4 years I was only making 8.45 an hour. Even If I worked there for 10 more years I probably wouldn't have gotten full time.

Seniority plays a larger role in advancement than work ethic and why would I continue to work the same job if I had advanced as far as I could.

There just aren't enough good jobs even for the hard working college educated people. I know many people who have college degrees who cannot find employment in their related field.

I was always told growing up, go to college work hard and it will be worth it. Sounds like sham to me.

The sham was only offering college and punching a clock for someone else, as a solution to your life's desires.

Oh I bet someone banked some coin for your education, though.

We all don't have the means to run out and start our own business with no capital.

There are many small businesses that can be started with little to no capital. Once you build up some reserves after that you can move to the next step of a larger business.

What nobody talks about is that this shit is hard and many people just dont want to do it.

What would be the point of taking a full time job if you can't support yourself with it?

That's the question that I asked.

Would you take a full time job if it didn't pay you enough to pay for your food, rent, and clothes? If not, why would you expect anyone else to?
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Padawanbater2 again.

I had a few hundred bucks when I started mine years ago.

Its not like you need a million dollar loan just to give being a small business owner a try. These days, people do this shit from their own homes with equipment they all ready own. I had to stomp pavement to promote my business in the beginnings. Sucked ass to walk to a couple dozen homes for a few hours and come out empty handed.

If you can save up 3500 in 6 months to pay off a loan, you can definitely come up with the capital to start many a business as well.

But, whatever man.

Careful now, might get this thing shut down with that kind of talk.

I agree..I started my business with 800.00 bucks in the bank.. I learned a trade from my employer and then started my own business. It took awhile to grow the business but it did grow and now I pay people to do my job when I want time off...It's not easy, but it can be done...

i'm gonna put money on it that you weren't paid minimum wage by this employer..minimum wage offers no incentive as it is not a LIVING WAGE.

Minimum wage increases.

Sep 1, 1997[SUP]5[/SUP]$5.15 for all covered, nonexempt workers
Jul 24, 2007$5.85 for all covered, nonexempt workers
Jul 24, 2008$6.55 for all covered, nonexempt workers
Jul 24, 2009$7.25 for all covered, nonexempt workers

From 2007-2009, minimum wages went up 24%, from $5.85-$7.25, much faster than the inflation rate.
Nowhere on the poverty level chart can we see a drop in poverty. In fact, starting in 2007, which coincides with minimum wage increases, the poverty level rises drastically.

Anyone care to explain this?

I had a vhs video some dude made with a homemade camera as my first learning tool, his family helped with the camera and getting tools and whatnot. I couldn't get a job in the area I wanted to venture into, so this was about all the options I had.

I think I might have killed someone back then for a youtube and the forums we have now. Would of sped the process up dramatically to say the least.

actually, the government will need to take action on these employers, like they always do..it's a proven fact employers cannot be trusted to "do the right thing" for their employees..just a matter of time.

I think it's also proven we can't trust the government to "do the right thing" for their citizens. People who seek power generally will find it whether in the private sector or public sector. So what we have, is the type of person who seeks power over others being counted on to act in the best interest of those who they control. It's an uphill climb.

As always, my suggestion is to limit the damage these fools can do instead of expanding it. You don't trust business but trust government, I don't trust either. Human nature doesn't change just because tax money is involved.

i trust government to regulate against those who will exploit the system..job creators? what a fucking laugh..

Walmart founder Sam Walton once said, "I pay low wages. I can take advantage of that. We're going to be successful, but the basis is a very low-wage, low-benefit model of employment."[SUP][46]

To me, it looks like right around 2008 when the entire economy collapsed, many people lost their jobs, regardless of minimum wage.
