all DIY hoods, save the one in the far back right corner. that one was the 'prototype' from which i worked. $17 worth of sheet metal, $3 worth of spraypaint, a few cents worth of nuts and bolts works out to $20 a hood. i could easily make a couple more bends, put in a piece of glass, cut a few holes, and make them air cooled if i wanted to, but i actually use the lights as a heat source in winter.

pic is old, the plants you see were brought in from outside during september when we were getting all that cold and rain. they never really recovered, even inside. mold kept spreading, worms kept doing their thing. they got harvested weeks ago.

the ones in there now are too small to be picture worthy.
Awesome! Nothing like the pride of making something yourself and saving a good amount of cash! Are they tack welded in place or did you use rivets? I've always been interested in sheet metal work but sadly never had proper tools.

Oh that sucks you have to bring them in! It's pretty dumb considering the weather has been perfect the last few weeks with the exception of today. It's too bad they never recovered from the damp weather and bud worms! They would've been some great looking girls!

Also, what strain was it?

about 6 different strains in the pic.

i built those hoods with tin snips, a marker, a drill, a screwdriver, a 4' ruler, vice grips, and a 2x4. oh, and nice, heavy duty gloves. sheet metal is hell on hands.

just a few bends and nuts and bolts holds them together solidly.

if you think i saved some cash on the hoods, you don't even want to know how little i paid for 3200 watts worth of lighting.

Oh nice, from the picture they all seem to have the same-ish stature. Maybe I'm just too stoned right now haha. I'm looking into buying a house within the next year or so and of course upsizing my grow, So I might have to replicate your hoods!;-)

I know all too well about sheet metal and hand protection..well what happens when you lack hand protection anyways. I put up 16g pro-panel on a shed at my parents' and quickly learned how that gloves are pretty damn useful!

Did you convert security lights or warehouse lights to remote ballast fixtures??

some dude out in sandy had ~100 extra 400w high bay lights. i picked up a shit ton for $25 a piece. wire to 120, splice onto a good extension cord, and we're golden. $35 for 400 watts, another $20 for the hood.

my neighbor told me a horror story about his old friend losing a thumb to sheet metal dropped from ahigh which the now thumbless person friend tried to catch. took his thumb right off. i decided to buy some gloves after that story.

Damn! Talk about a great find! A couple years back I took 50 600watt metal halide bay lights to a scrap yard for the lumber company I used to work for due to remodeling and switching to newer, digital ballasts and splitters to save electricity. Looking back, I want to pull my hair out for not having more foresight and trying to buy a couple.

All well, I give you major kudos for making your own lights for like a 1/5th of the price of one from a shop! And yeah, it's those stories that you hear throughout life that keep you from making those same stupid choices and lets you not have to learn the hard way!!:blsmoke:Hard lessons learned easy haha.

Now we're gearing up for outdoor!
Hope everyone is well an harvesting healthy!
Looks good man..i have a trimmer just like that one..its the shit if you get the plants prepped right.
The only thing i do not like about it is it should have a better motor on it with a starting capacitor. When it gets gummed up the blades do not like to start moving.
It trims great though when you get the hang of it..the buds look great.
