growing white widow problem

I am growing a white widow plant and I am having a problem with growth.
It has been vegging for about three weeks now and is only about eight inches high.
I have her on 18/6 hps light and am feeding her Fox Farm Open Sesame for vegging.
I have seen a little growth in the past couple of days but nothing significant.
I would appreciate anyone's advice as to getting her to grow faster.
I've grown White Widow in the past and had a couple seeds left so I went ahead and grew a couple more.
one was a male,bummer and I have another seedling that I started 6 days ago.
Please help me in getting her to grow more.

Fox Farms Open Sesame isn't a veg fertilizer, and it absolutely is not for 8 inch tall seedlings... Did you try reading the label?

To make this REAL simple... Look for a fertilizer that has three numbers on the front that are almost the same, and none of the numbers are bigger than 20... (not like 5-45-19) use it from start to finish.

This is a serious oversimplification, but it'll get you MUCH further than the 5-45-19 your using now... I really recommend reading product labels (and gardening books).

NO! Instead of me going into an explanation, just go to Hydroponic - Research and read up on their VEG+BLOOM. I switched from DM Gold full line over a year ago

IF you're using a granular 20.20.20, use it sparingly. The tiniest little pinch per gallon is all you need, and only one or two dosages during veg time only. 20.20.20 should not be used during budding.

I grow organically, so personally I wouldn't touch 20-20-20 fertilizer with a 10 foot pole. But, if you must use chemicals, 20-20-20 will work MUCH better than your 5-45-19 stuff...

That 20-20-20 (used sparingly) will work just fine for the whole grow. Are there better options? Of course there are. But, if you've already got it and dont want to spend money, that stuff absolutely will get you to harvest assuming it is a complete fertilizer (meaning it contains the necessary micronutrients in addition to N, P and K).

Well,I've used 20-20-20 on her a few times now.
Is it a good idea to pull her out of the pot she's in and replant her in fresh soill?
About the hydroponic advice,I've done hydro before and had success with it but I can't very well pull her out of soil and start her on hydro.

My next grow will most likely be hydro.
I do have some more seeds on the way,Afghani and Northern lights.
I will most likely grow those on hydro.

white widow is a complicated one. i recomend you go on youtube and search white widow grow. these 2 guys grew theres and will show you exactly hat they did and the best temp and humidity to be at. they also have 1 soil n 1 hydro. at the end there is no difference between the 2. soil grew taller quicker thats it.

Three weeks in veg as in 3 weeks since seed germination or since cloned? It the picture looks way older than 3 weeks from seed and it also looks like it has started flowering.

Three weeks in veg and I have ger on 18/6 light cycle.
She is starting to gain some height and I am no longer giving her the 20-20-20 fertilizer.
I have ordered some other nutes that I can use for both soil and hydro.
I measure her every day and she has gained 2 inches since the beginning of this thread.
She just seems to be a slow grower.
I will let you know how things go after feeding her the other nutes.
I am going to wait a week and see what happens before I start feeding her the new nutes.

I have an update and some pics on my white widow grow since I first posted about some problems I was having.
Since my first post she has grown 4" and is looking much healthier.
I took her off the 20-20-20 fertilizer and went back to feeding her the fox farm open sesame.
For your information the guy that said not to use the fox farms open sesame,that it wasn't recommended for veg.I did some research and found that you can use it for soil veg.
I told you that she has gained 4" but the real proof has to be seen.
Here are some recent pics of her.
Let me know your opinions about how she's looking now.
I am very happy with the results so far and hopefully this will be a succesful grow.

A huge improvement and it's white widow,a hard strain to grow.

Do what you want, man... I'm not lying when I say that Open Sesame isn't a good fertilizer for veg growth.

You switched from the Fox Farms to the 20-20-20 and your plants rebounded fantastically (like myself and others said they would). Why would you switch back to the Fox Farms?


The first number of the three is nitrogen, which is needed in largest amounts during veg growth. It's VITAL in the production of chlorophyll (chlorophyll is what's giving your plants that nice deep green color they have now).


Switch back if you want, but consider yourself warned... I've run White Widow a few times. I didn't find it to be any more difficult to grow than other strains (they all like nitrogen during veg).

Rule number one of gardening (in my opinion/experience): Believe what your plants tell you, not what labels or internet randos tell you when you "research". Your plants told you very clearly that they preferred the 20-20-20 over the Fox Farms.

For your information I only fed her the 20-20-20 once and have since been feeding her the fox farm ever since,every other day.
But hey,thanks for trying to help.

I take it you either have never used foxfarms or you didn't have much success with them.

Open Sesame is bloom enhancer. I'd wait until she starts blooming before using Open Sesame.

Too many products in my opinion. I think you are over-complicating a relatively easy plant to grow. I would only use a single grow formula, one more for bloom, and one additive for flower in conjunction with your bloom food. Save yourself some money, and buy some good seeds instead. Peace
