Sir_dabs First Grow *Total Newbie*

i spent a couple hours scowering grow journals and other forums. My 90° number is based on observations of others not of my own so take with a grain of salt. I have found that the majority of high PPM CO2 uses run their temps 85-90 so I guess I jumped on the bandwagon. Factually here is a decent read I found on another site: http://boards.cannabis.com/advanced-techniques/201275-introduction-co2.html It's the best read I could find combined heat/humidity to proper ppm absorption rates.

Sorry to hijack SDabs!

No prob NR..

The majority of posts here are in fact contributing rather than high jacking..
;)

For example.. I had no idea photosynthesis stops at 86°.. Shit..

I've been intentionally setting my tent up to run at 84° solid while lights are on..I've got the temp nailed..

Hmmm.. Ideal temps with light on?
Please lend advice..

Kinda got a technique down, to where I'm capable of controlling the exact temp by tinkering with the in-line fan and exhaust..
Maybe 75-80°????

Thanks in advance.
Ps..
Found some” breathing room” per se..
Those tall colas growing above and all around the hood..

Well, I bit the bullet and very very cautiously scrog'd the tall ass branches, also managed to raise the hood about 6-8”..
So, now I feel like the canopy is much much more even, and it looks like I may have a decent yield..
*knocking on wood*.. :)

It is an excellant read. Pretty sure we agree. But the room temp should be lower because the surface of the leaf is a higher temp than ambient air temp.
The example they give says, "NOTE temp is measured at surface, not ambient air temp...."

Photosynthesis and the metabolisim of the plant increase with the temperature.
As the temp rises from 50deg to 90deg (40deg bounce) at the leaf surface photosynthesis increases by a factor of 5
from 70-90 deg (20deg bounce) it increases even more 2.5 with all environmental elements in place.

50-70 had more co2 than they could use and newts room ran at 600ppm
70-85 also had more co2 than they could use at 1000ppm
80-90 used nearly twice the co2 and made huge harvest. almost 50%..... (strain DE-pendant)

If I remember correctly the point of diminished return was at 86 degrees. Above that the leaf temp inside and out would be above the target temp for a benefical return. Because the surface temp and ambient room temp are not one in the same. Probably because it absorbs certain wavelengths and reflects the green light.
Hope that helps.
Will try and find a chart with plotted points to illistrate but it's been awhile since I read that too.

Scrog'd branches for the win. A great way to squeeze out that extra few grams.
Best temps I read was 77-84 ambiant air temp. Above 86 the return is diminished to the price of co2 ppm. You actually use less co2 concentrate the lower the temp as referenced above..

Great info gents...
May I ask yet another rookie question?

Placing the Hygrometer's probe at the hottest area in the room, located on the leaf's surface.
Is this an accurate temp?

I actually have two; one is placed right under the hood dead center laying atop the canopy, and a second one that the probe is kinda off center and lower to the ground.

They usually read the same, sometimes a degree up or down, but fairly consistent.
Night time temps have been great as of late.

If I remember correctly the leaf surface temp and the clorophyl is actually warmer than the air. Believe we are close to what each other is saying but I would suggest room temp be less than 90 for the best results. 86 and above with low co2 photosynthys slows to a crawl. The co2 allows you to go to 90 however 86 is the break point. Some growers don't do it in the summer because temps get to high so cooler is better if you can do that without wasting to much juice in the process.
Hope that helps.

That's actually great help..

After reading your post, I made some adjustments...
Set up to run at 75°.. Pretty solid all night, dropped down to 71° upon awakening... Never dropped below 71°..
As I reset my hygrometers everyday, and even record high/low temp and the RH for the Date.

Big time nerd right here...lol

So, with all the adjustments last night; the scrog, I also cleaned up some under growth on SN3 to free up some energy, raised the hood a bit...moved some things around...
Bloom goes BOOM again..

Lots of fantastic things happening in there, new pics this weekend.
Thanks for HIGH-jacking...lol..

Updating with addition of a couple of” key nutes”..so I'm told (being first grow and all)

I was told I must have Bud Candy by my bro in law, so I picked up some of this shit, almost had a slight heart attack when looking to purchase..lol
At first all I could find was this giant ass bottle for over 400$..
Then I saw the mini bottle..phew!!
Still near 30$ however, but was told it should last me a full year of cycles.

Also added Ginormous, made by Humboldt, was told it was similar to Big Bud, without the heavier price tag.

Holy shit, never really knew how much these nutes cost..I've been getting all for free, until I need the” high end” shit...lol..
The addition of these two nutes made impact overnight it seems.
Added to..
General Hydroponics
2 bottle simple nutes.(Veg/bloom)
Kelp
Ph'd water
Currently ruining Roots Organic, but really wanting to try coco on my next run.
Pics coming soon..
Stunning changes ahead!!
:)

Good Morning Colorado!!
Update time!!

Made some changes, scrog'd the tall colas in back, as they were so tall, they were being sucked into the side of the hood....HOLYMoly...haha

Fixed that though, raised up the hood some..like to figure a way to get it even higher.

Anyway..the extra head room made an impact.
Also added..
Optimize, an Amino Acid solution containing the full line of all 18 amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein/life.
The label claims it will allow the plant to uptake nutrients more efficiently if added to solution once a week.
This in coalition with the sugars of Bud Candy and Ginormous..
Well....
Sorry..” Shut the fuck up, and post the pics...”..lol

SN2&3.. View and blow up for better viewing pleasure..I fucking hate these tent pictures, but here I have one top of SN2

Again, blow up for a better pic... These are from last night, so day 27..

One of my favorite colas in the room, again shit pic, but blow that shit up..

Orange is starting to come in on the hairs and trichomes are coming in nicely..
Not too shabby for a full on rookie..
Although, I must give credit to the original breeder and beginning stage friend that I owe a great deal of credit to

Thanks for stopping by, Happy Sunday peeps..

Looking good Sirdabs!
If you do end up switching to all coco you'll need to look at running a calmag product as well, calmag+, magiCAL, etc.
As for your "liquid carbs" you could easily go with any cheaper sweet product available, Botanicare sweet, gh floranectar, humboldt honey etc. On a side by side commercial "medical grow", I've seen the difference between running a carb with synthetics and not. The "with", was always much frostier and resin laden literally wet no matter what strain...

Also have you looked into running roots organic nutrients or the Botanicare pure blend pro competition by aurora called soul synthetics? These are phenom bottled nutrients that work and you can run strictly organic or use the best of both by using soul synthetics. I have also seen good old earth juice yield 1+lb per light organics, and thats some of the cheapest available.
After all the pro med organic cali farms simply start em early, use the best soil, and then only feed maxicrop and kelp and get 5-10lb monster ladies.

It's been many years since I only stuck to one nutrient, and really there are many good ones to choose from and use to grow good cannabis. But there are a lot of snake oils or upsells as well that easily entice the starting grower.

Love what you're doing keep it up!

Thank you guys for the kind sentiment.

@Bubba.. Thank you sir. ;).. Uh..yeah THANK YOU. Wish I could rep ya again.
Figured you MIGHT know how many days the two SN's take in flower to finish?Maybe?..snicker..

@Garlic.., I'd rep you again if I could..
Great info AGAIN..In regard to using coco, I know what you mean, my bro in law uses coco, and I see pros and cons to the medium.
Loving your advice on Nutes, I figure as I progress as a grower my skills and knowledge should grow along with the girls..

Got any thoughts on Smart pots?
Been seriously considering using them for the next run, but again, I've heard mixed reviews (which seems to be common across the board)What I've heard is the same benefits can be achieved by simply adding sufficient amounts of rock wool or perlite.
But, as I'm typing... I realize most of these type questions will be answered with my own experience.

But advice from seasoned growers is always welcomed.

@Rae, as ALWAYS..thank you!!Shit, I can only hope to be as good as you and CSU on my second run..damn talk about quick learners, y'all are killing it..;):) :weed:

I got him the rep for you SDA ;-)

I can't comment on all the "smart pots" as I have only used the "breathable fabric" type. So far, other than having to deal with the dripping fabric after a watering, I think I will actually keep some form of breathable container, they seem to work great... but if they only last a few grows, I don't think I will keep using the fabric type, and will move on to other versions of "smart pots".

Thanks you guys this is awesome seeing a lot of CO love on this thread ;)!

SirDabs I have used smart pots and other fabric type versions of it like roots pots for many years. Whether they are practical or not always depends on usage. Indoors I think with soil anything under a 10gal smart pot drys out too quickly, so using a nursery container like a squat 7 is better but be sure to give adequate veg time. If using coco and planning on watering/feeding daily (and vegging for less than 7days) then smartpots under 10gal indoor is pretty sweet. I'm indoor in 2gal plastic bucket container of coco and I feed every other day (vegged 5 days). If these were smart pots I'd be feeding daily and BLOWING through nutrients.

Outdoors is a different story, 200-400 gal smart pots have allowed for 5-10lb monsters vegged all season and topped off with straw to keep in the moisture. I have a few LSS outdoor in 15gal smart pots and they do dry out quicker than my 15gal nursery pots.
I notice they can be a pain to clean too, like if you get spider mites and are using fabric pots be ready to sterilize everything. or risk harboring a single mite in an entire pot woven together thus creating millions of tiny hideouts. I just left mine under a tarp all winter, winter fresh clean!

Needless to say they have their pros and cons.
I've been using brute trashcans 20's and 32's indoor and outdoor for many years and that holds moisture well in this normally dry climate!

I'm very seriously considering using the typical breathable pots at 2-3 gal and using a combo of ss, coco and perlite and maybe some rock wool.

My tent is only a 5x5 and I ran out of space really quickly by using 5 gal pots with Roots Organic and the nutes I've mentioned.

Did not get my scrog net in until well into flower, so yeah..

Thinking I'll use 3 gal, veg til about 1.5 ft tall, and flip into the scrog, hoping for an EVEN canopy that will bush out rather than shoot up.

Sir know you are scaring me as I also am running a 5 x 5 tent and am using SmartPots on my first grow! :hump: I started with the clones in 3 gal smart pots, and moved them about 3 weeks later into the 7gal. They only take about .5L of H20 intake every 2 days, but I'm using LED lighting. IMO running 9 x 5gal plants would be tight but possibly ideal setup for space.

Ps- I am also looking to go coco on my next cycle just as you are LOL!

Dude, Night Rider...
That is crazy to say the least.. LOL

Hashhaha...wtf?..seriously?
I've never in my life experienced anything like this...haha

Let me guess..you got a Secret Jardin Dark Room huh?

Also great advice again my friend, I think my issue this time was simply the plants were vegged a little too long for my grow space I should of flipped then much sooner..

(9)5 gal would be awesome of I could pull it off...

How long would you veg if attempting that?
Maybe a foot tall?

Like I said...I'm a newbie to this.. :)

For a frame of reference these girls (6plants/k, 4k) are in 2gals coco at wk 6.5 and were vegged until about a foot the flipped into bloom. they stand roughly 2 ft because I methodically snapped the stem (VERY CAREFULLY!) alternating every internode bending to the left, bending back to the right. It allows for maximum bud output when you kinda lay her on her side vs cutting off her head. People who I consult have seen me work many gardens like this and are amazed at the results, off course many of them try it on their own and snap a few plants in half. that all comes with the territory and i think a fun part about learning to really work a plant.

Holy fuck Garlic!!
Is this known as Super cropping?..or a version of it?

I've read some on the technique, you slightly squeeze the stem and gently gently bend, slightly breaking the cell wall?
The plant repairs the” broken limb”, and grows thicker from the repair.

This essentially creates a” Super highway” for which nutrients are up-taken..
As opposed to a simple two lane road, in a school zone.

Now we get on the autobahn, and floor the gas right?
