What up world wide web! A player decided to sell a small portion of the portfolio this past week and reinvest in something that has shown a much better return. So after a quick correspondence with the fellas at Area-51 this past Friday, I am the proud owner of the new all Cree LED Area-51 SGS-160! I have been drooling over this thing since I first saw some of you fellas talking about the specs on here in early Feb.

I was thinking about teaming it up with the Cali Lightwork 200W Solarstorm in the 3x3 (can anyone say bleaching?) but opted instead to get another 36x20 tent and see what this beast can do on its own!

After a look in the small seed bank I've managed to collect over the past half year, I decided to run a cheaper, medium height, lower odor strain, and dropped 5 fem Nemesis by Seedsman (I also wanted to check out a sativa leaning strain.) I think I'm going to give a go at some cloning this time around, so does that mean I shouldn't top or fim? If anybody could chime in with any personal info on the strain it would be greatly appreciated.

Strain: Nemesis by Seedsman
Lighting: Area-51 SGS-160
Medium: Coco
Nutes: Advanced Nutrients PH perfect - Sensi grow A&B for veg then the Connoisseur for flowering. I haven't added anything further yet but was contemplating the bud candy perhaps?
Area: 36x20x63 tent

I know I sort of jumped the gun with starting this journal but my anticipation for this light is something serious. I intend on updating weekly unless something special comes up (documenting day one, receiving the light etc.)

Thanks for checking me out and lets see what the new Area-51 lamp can do in the hands of a complete newbie! I cannot give a higher praise to the folks over at Area-51 and anybody thinking about dipping their toes in the LED water should first things first, shoot an email to [email protected] and tell them I sent you from here, and I promise they will take care of you!

First off happy fathers day (since most of us are taking care of , or have taken care of these fine little ladies if not a "real" father,) and thanks for checking in! I tucked the 5 Nemesis beans away a little over 24 hours ago so I will be checking on them shortly. I didn't pre-soak these but I'm still anticipating a day one by the end of the week.

I was thinking that we should maybe get an Area-51 SGS-160 thread going? I know that the guys at A51 have done extensive testing and there's no reason we shouldn't be taking advantage of their expertise with this light, as well as what we find along the way ourselves. As previously stated, I'm hoping to show what this lamp is capable of doing with some "cheap" seeds in the hands of a novice grower.

I just wanted to thank the warm reception once again and will do my best to do this light justice!

ditto.

I have a hard time justifying >$10/bean, but felt it was well worth it to get good genes and a feminized batch to get things started "well".

Subbed here too...I'm interested in replacing my 2 ProSource -180W Jumbo's with 2 of the SGS-160's. This could get interesting in your tent....I worrry about my 78" tent height and the recommended 17"-20" height above canopy that Area-51 suggests (eats up real estate height-wise). With your 63" tent height you will need to manage plant height more than I will. Currently my ProSource LED's (1w LEDS) work well with some strains that get too tall on me. I only get bleaching if the tops actually end up touching the glass cover. But I suspect too that some strains chase these lights when I raise them due to the tri-band spectrum. These 5 watt LED's in the SGS-160 may be the ticket for better penetration but I wonder about their intensity when plants exceed the recommended clearance.
Lets rock!

@ 17.5-18" I'm getting solid penetration below the canopy. I don't get a choice on height either, and I'm one more light cycle away from 12/12.

I haven't had them closer than 17" yet, we'll see what happens with the flowering stretch. I only have ~7" to go up. I wish I had 63" height.

I have some experience with the CLW 5W and I'm sure these CREEs will cook these babies if not careful. What I'm planning is a type of SOG and keeping the final pot size no larger than 1-2 gal Hempys. I plan on topping or fiming (I always want to add another M) as well as some type of LST. I'm just hoping the eye holes on the SGS are big enough for the ratchet pulls 'cause on the 4 spot A5-90 I think, the eye holes were too small so I had to use those little wire things they come with, and I lost a foot there. If anybody else has every experienced this problem and has a solution, please share.

Worst case scenario, I will team the SGS with the SolarFlare in the 3x3 Secret Jarden where I get another foot clearance (or buy another tent is suppose lol.)

Cool, I'm a 2g hempy brother. Come over and introduce yourself on the WOH thread sometime.(World of Hempy). I hate the hangar wires on the Prosource Jumbo's too. When I run out of head room I have to wrap the wires around a caribeener several times to get them higher. At 14lbs each, I worry about the stressing the wire at the fasteners. One day I'll figure out the thread size and get some mini-eyebolts. That's an attractive thing about the SGS's...nice mounting possibilities. Looks like you can take it way up in the tent as long as you leave some cooling fan margin.

Here are a couple pics of my current tents.

I just recently moved the 4 spot from the 3x3 so that I could allow the HTG to finish out the 3 autos while I got the next batch going.

I threw the Nemesis beans into their solo cup hempys and left them in the bottom of the tent because it keeps an almost optimal temp and efore anybody says anything, I assure everyone that the leaves in the pic have been removed.

I was toying with the idea of keeping this tent as the "Veg Tent", but I think I will instead do everything with the Nemesis from seed to harvest under the SGS once the tent and lamp arrive. I can't believe how bright those CREE outdoor whites are. I mean for 120W at the wall, I will be able to fully and properly light the entire tent. I feel like a damn little kid on Christmas Eve waiting for this light.

On a side note, on the 4 spot I can barely even get the clasps to the wire things into the little eyes..

I use a rope ratchet per eyelet one all three of my -90's, the one off eBay, thin and thick roping (the thick makes it harder adjust) and its a tight fit, but they fit- and you can angle it in any which direction..

The thick ones go for like 4-7 bucks a set, start at 0.01 bid, the more "quality" ones are closer to 9-11, I just bought two sets for 17 though, hopefully the good ones.

I really like 51's stock black wires, but I am guilty of not using any of the three sets

O btw I'm subbed, love the setup

I'm not really sure how I'm feeling about these Seedsman Nemesis. 0/5 on first 5, then the next 5 after soaking 48 hours only one grew a tiny tail at about hour 36. So I put them in medium and am hoping maybe they're just some late bloomers. Anyways, I shot Seedsman a note and they are some stand up ass folks there and they're sending me out a new pack.

In the meantime I just put everything vegging in the new tent under the SGS and let me tell you this things is a work of art! Super bright, super quiet and the plants just seem to love it. I transplanted the Chemdawg, a Fallen Angel, and 2 Sour Haze (SH1&2) into larger pots yesterday and all plants have been topped. I feel like I was doing a lot of work LSTing and appear to be getting very similar results by just topping. I hope I'm doing it right lol.

Here are a few pics of the set up and I will take more detailed pics tomorrow or the next day. I haven't quite figured out what I'm going to do as far as what I will move to the 3x3 etc and hope these last 5 pop.
