I don't think the anti-GM brain washed wackos have a clue as to what is going on with the plant genetic engineering. Mother nature has been naturally mutating plants for billions of years, man has been irridating seed or corm stock for years. Just because one of the ag corporations diced a gene into the DNA of corn or soy in order for the plant to be able to fend off the amino acid interfering herbicide glyphosate..... has nothing to do with human health issues. Apples and oranges people.

Monsanto developed Round-Up, which contains glyphosate, one of the best and environmentally friendly herbicides on the market. I buy the 42% glyphosate generics and use a ton of it. It is a cost/life saver for the farmer and the public.

Its quite easy to breed... Get two strains male and female and rub the male plants on the female plants of the opposite strain.

Making it stable is is just more cross breeding between the two females.

I have a friend who gets steroid shots for back pain. Are you saying she shouldn't be treated for her spinal problems and be in comfort so she can teach school?

Perhaps you need to do a blood Comprehensive Metabolic Panel and see what's really going on with your body. I just got through with one and my liver, kidney, thyroid functions are fine. Chloresterol and blood pressure is high but that's from the genes I inherited.

Bullshit. I live in the heart of ranching country which includes beef, sheep, and goat production and nothing is maxxed out in 20 months except the LA mentality you have. Get out of the city once in a while and see what the real world is like. Stay away from the Greenie websites too. They're nothing more than a pack of brainwashed dupes.

Now organic vs conventional? Thats different. Also, Penn and Teller do not have trained testers who know how to spot the subtle differences between the two. Terroir? It's legit and only those snobbish wine freaks can taste it. I know I cant.
That being said: GMO weed? Not gonna smoke it. Not until I see research about the phenological changes that occur. Not against it, but certainly a real issue. And this WILL happen eventually. Eventually.
Even then, I am still going to favor bred strains. Plants know what makes us happy, its people who seem to get those things wrong.

My grandmother always use to insist on using organic fertalizer for her garden. She thought it made the produce taste better.

Now on the other hand, I like to grow sweet corn sometimes. Last year I went on Ebay, and ordered what I thought to be the best and most exotic sweet corn I could find. The breeder talked about great yield and ultimate sweetness, and unbelievable flavor. (I used only high end organic fertalizer as well)

So, I grew this stuff out, and while it was superior to sweet corn I would buy at the super market. It failed to live up to previous crops I had used with Earl May's seed line of sweet corn. I had tried a number of Earl's sweet corn strains previously, and everyone that tasted it commented on it's incredible flavor (more like fine steak then corn).

I used miracle grow only as fertalizer on all the earl may corn...

You can draw a number of conclusions depending on how you look at it. But I think at least in this instance, it tends to favor the genetics and growers knowledge over one type of fertalizer being superior.

I'll tell you what I often tell my neurotic worrying wife - "no 'what if's' honey....I don't want to hear it." You can't go around what-iffing situations that 90% of the time never materialize.

There is no health link between soy seed that has been altered to withstand the over head application of glyphosate and health issues. It's apples and oranges. May have already said this, but plants have mutated naturally for billions of years, and man has been irridating plant material for a long time in order to find a superior product. Kinda like the heirloom tomatoes - as I said in another thread in response to you, if I had to choose between the absolutely incredible new 'Rodeo' tomato and one of the same sized heirlooms, I'd pitch the heirloom into the pig pen.

Everything is made of chemicals, and that includes organics. At least with something like Peters or Miracle Gro, you know what you're getting. With most organics, you don't. Many "natural" and "organic" foods contain high amounts of heavy metals and or broad leafed herbicides like picloram, Banvel, 2,4-D, etc.

She was working off feelings, not facts. I use the hell outa organics, but for specific factual reasons, not because I embrace some lamebrain green religion.

Look at the trend of pretending - whether it be Obama's well honed plastic persona, cannabis specific product vendors, or organic farmers markets - they all sell their wares (or themselves) based on people's feelings....their beliefs. Snake oil salesmen use blind faith to the max for profit gain. The "organic" and "natural" movement is so full of misrepresentation and fraud it's unreal. If they didn't lie they wouldn't be in the business.

I'm sure there have been studies.

We have known since the 15th century (shit, can't remember the guy's name, Italian guy, father of pharmacology...) that the dose of poison is much more important than the poison itself.

People ingest poison every day. Nicotine, alcohol, fluoride...

If you drank a 12 ounce beer you may not feel a thing, but if you drank 12 ounces of grain alcohol you could die.

There are pesticides that do not hurt people at any dose yet people freak out about trace amounts on vegetables.

I read an article that talked about organic yields going down each year.

If only organic produce was available, many people would not eat vegeatables and fruit at all because it would be so expensive. People would be less healthy and die younger.
