I don't really mean pre 90s, more mid 90s-mid 2000s (which have those bonuses in 1...usually...) and all of the shops around me have this all around kind of deal where they pretty much work on everything and they still don't get all that much business because everyone works on their own cars out here ;)

Most people who have the faster cars around here just buy the parts they need online and then install them themselves so that removes the issue of number 2, but let's say someone doesn't have the skill or is simply too lazy to do that or doesn't have the time, then that's a valid point.
Maintaining itself isn't an option for me except the real dawdles like fluids. I have a bad back, and I never acquired the expertise with mechanical things. I remember trying to do some work on an '89 Suzuki Katana. i had the shop manual, but it did not treat of really important things like which interfering bits (hoses, wires, braces etc.) to remove when/how.
And i have zero idea for how to vet local shops for honesty. Most of those stick to the national vehicle of the 'Stan anyway ... a Big Three pickup. cn

Guys, I must confess. I did a terrible thing this week.

I looked at a Prius.
~deep shame~ cn
you should see the Lexus version I sold one here at the car lot... They suck, way more than a Prius and get the gas mileage of a Camry... I didn't tell her that tho

haha no man i wish those were mine. some are near future plans though. ive got a old porsche 944 turbo that im building. got a good 5-7k in forged internal parts along with some other goodies for it. just waiting on getting the machine work done now. the engine block is made out of alusil and almost no machine shops have the tools to cut that type of metal so its been hard finding a place to get it done. going to turn the boost up till its around 500whp which should only be about 20 psi from what ive seen on other dyno charts for these cars. at 500whp it should have a hell of a power to weight ratio for being such a small car.
