The LAPD has never really changed - EVER, the LAPD was instrumental in causing the 2nd LA riots, The LAPD has had a very long history of a culture of corruption, a good old boy network and the like. I believe Dorner's story, I have heard far too many stories from far too many who have been in a posiition to know what the LAPD is like. There was a show - "cops" on tv, I rarely watched it but I was watching it with a friend one night when sure enough, an officer that the guy I knew, knew was on - he was "apprehending" someone but ran from the "cops" camera, as the camera approached there was a gaggle of officers on the ground subduing someone else - this guy - the one my buddy knew yelled "camera, camera" - and the gaggle sort of changed it's energy. We knew what was really happening but it was so quick I doubt many audience members noticed it.
Dorner knows full well that if he lives there will be an internal investigation and the LAPD will fire a few folks and that will be the end of that. I - think he would rather die and become a martyr though he should surely know that won't help either - they are already beginning the process of creating this guy as a nut case.
(though he may be, that only changes reality for those who figure that nuts are incapable of explaining reality)
Everyone who knew anything knew that King was not the cause of the LA riots, he was just the final straw from decades of abuse, complaints "filed" away never to be addressed, whitewashing of police brutality and abuse.
