Need serious help with first time grow!!

Right now this is my first "stealth"(first marijuana grow EVER...) grow so that's why the box is very small and crapy looking.

Box size:
height - 21 in
depth - 9 in
width - 16 in

Lights:
i had 4 26 watt cfl's but after the possible burn
i lowered the light and now have 3 26 watts and 1 15 watt.

*Plants are 11 days old*

I am not sure why the leaves are yellowing. It started a couple days ago when i had the plants around 2 in from the lights, i thought they got burned but i was under the impression that the plants could be as close to a cfl as long as it isn't touching. To be safe i moved them down and they are about 7 to 8 inches away.

I currently water them when they start to get dry(which seems to be pretty often every other day or so).
I have no intake or exhaust fans. I do have 1 hole cut out on each side of box- one high one low -and sometimes blow a medium sized box fan into the box. I also blow fan directly on plants here and there.

Does anyone have any ideas or help!?

Thanks in advanced

Doesn't look like light burn to me. Inner leaves look good but the outer are suffering and if it was light burn on such small plants I would think all leaves would be affected.

I'm not a soil grower so someone with a bit more experience should chime in but my guess here is this is a lock out of some sort due to low pH. What kind of soil do you have, have you tested the pH?

Start with those answers and hopefully a soil grower can help.

Cheers

either lock out a nute burn

What soil is that ? Have you fed the plant anything ? If I got given that I`d flush it and ph it and just water it till it had at least 4 adult leaves

Looks more like nute burn as plants that small normally don`t need feeding.

Also mate tin foil is a big no no it does not reflect evenly it creates termal spots and it conducts electricity not good to have lots of that around lights and damp soil, white paint or Mylar is what you want if your really stuck then silver duck tape will do the trick.

iam getting tired of newbees wanting us to hold their hand. you need to do some reading in the newbe section. you have major starting issues. Soil, dont see any perlight, ph, air, no foil. just for starters. Sorry...Get to work before wasting our time.

All i have done for the past 3 months is read and educate myself on growing marijuana, i simply wanted another more educated theory on what could possibly be wrong. i am not fucking experienced so i dont really know what to look for. Also as i tried to sum up in the summary i know this is a very bad setup. im aware foil is not recommended.

to be honest i really dont know. i didnt buy it, it was soil i had had for a while. i already threw the bag away and dont recall the name. this is more of an experimental first grow so i wasn't really wanting to go out and buy soil.

Well dang. Growing a crop of marijuana is a 3-4 month commitment. If you can't even afford to spend money on soil, nor care to remember what you DID use, quit now.

suggest you use a word doc. to record what you use and when. also keep a copy of all the good things you know will be forgotten. Like playing golf in a new season. refresh all the old basics before moving on.

You know there`s people in the real world that know about gardening that you can speak to but most of them atleast act like they don`t grow weed lol

You were not going to "buy" "soil" dude would you try to build a car with out "metal" ?? roots grow in soil or anywhere you can get correct conditions you can`t grow a plant without root`s or light or water and some basic N-P-K and other things but anyway

Get the root zone wrong and plant`s die why do you think most people germinate seeds in paper or cubes ? most seeds are very delicate fill your bath tub with a million African bush weed seeds and simply leave the window open and lights on and you might grow some weed

But do the following instead and you might get some good weed

Buy good seeds from a proven breeder of a strain you like or want to try

buy good lights and a timer

Find a good source of water

find out the way you want to contain your roots be it soil, hydro, aero, a dam fish tank , or even hand misting 24/7 by some kind of underground cave of morlocks

find a feed that will work with your choice of root zone growing area

Does your root zone need any air or chemicals ?

Will you need any testers or other equipment to maintain correct environment ? thermometer ? ph meter ? hydro meter ? ec meter ? work out what you need or have emergency money to buy such things

Will your grow area have enough air ? correct temps ? humidity ? do you need to control smell ?

One should consider everything and plan ahead when farming my friend did you plant this seed hoping to get high or simply to just watch a few leaves open and then die ????

Get your head in the game son if you want to smoke weed you have 3 options, buy it, grow it or pick it !!!! all of them require some effort and or money on your part nothing in life is free.............

Has everybody on this thread got a shitty tampon up their nose? Wtf?

Bro dont listen to half the crap spewing on this thread. Glad to have you aboard RIU. Welcome to the party.

I think you may be right about the light burn since you can clearly see that the new growth is green and vibrant and the crispy parts are where the plant would have growen out to in a couple days. Some times it takes a day for the light burn to show. So no worries. Your soil came from a bag which means its probably good, your plants arent dead. Make sure your containers nice and light and dry before you water because you may not have the best drainage from lack of pearlite. No worries, buy a seven dollar bag of pearlite when you need to transplant those things and mix it with your new soil. Also youll want to upgrade those cfls to 42 watts with Y splitters on them so you can run two bulbs over each plant. You can keep the lights around three - four inches away but watch they dont touch. This shit can grow fast so stay on it or theyll burn again.

Keep reading, your fine :) good luck

Hey this is just my two cents, but I am fairly new to growing but have had a lot of help from this site and a seasoned grower I know personally. I doubt that it's light burn, I have put my seedlings under CFL's less than an inch away and never had an issue, but also I always had a fan circulating the air around the plant 24 hrs so that could change things. I use Tropical soil mix and it contains almost no nutrients. I thought it did when I first used it and then I was wondering why my plant was stunted and yellowing. I added some nutrients and BAM! she grew pretty great from then on. From the photo's it kinda looks like a phosphorus deficiency but it is very difficult to tell and like I said i'm no pro but hope that may help.

Thats your 2 cents, heres mine. The plant shouldnt need any extra nutes besides whats in the soil for way longer than it took the first two leaves to grow. Thats where the problem is, in the first set. That plant is 11 days old and the new growth looks fine. With my very limited knowledge i even know that theres no way that the plant has any type of deficiancy yet. It shouldnt even need food yet. Just my two cents :)

Could be that as the soil is not that light the plant really had a struggle to get more roots going and had to eat up some of that 1st set of leaves to get going

Pearlight will solve this in most soils

If it helps any, the two single set leaves are the only ones that had the yellowing. The fourth set of leaves are now coming in and they look healthier than ever. i will post more pictures soon.

If your tired then stay out of threads where noobs ask for help.. this IS the newbie section and its where theyre supposed to ask questions...

and to atb820.. next time around just buy a bag of $4 Miracle gro MOISTURE CONTROL from home depot.. You will avoid that problem your plants have now.. once you start growing your gonna love it. stick with it because your doing fine for your first grow. Good luck
