miracle grow is fine. Add a little dolomitic lime to your soil for Ca and Mg.

When using fertilizer, just remember that less is more. Feeding it in excess won't make them grow faster, it will burn your plants and stunt them.

No on the MG unless you want a super harsh smoke and burnt plants from super hot nutes. At the very least use veg and bloom nutes and a sweetener and if using RO water then camg as well.

Another person who has never used MG. MG will work I've used MG Bloom booster 15-30-15 during flower several times. Start with 1 tsp/gal not the 1 tbsp as they recommend.

Another better option for you would be to use Osmocote Plus 15-9-12 with micro nutes. This is controlled release fertilizer, and will work full cycle. I've been using osmocote products for over 2 yrs now and they work great, and you can find it at your local garden shop. When setting up your pot, mix in 1.5 tbsps per gal of medium. If you transplant up to a larger container, mix in at the same rate into the new medium.

Hope this helps.

there's no difference in MG salts and the salts in "hydro" brand liquid nutrients except for higher price and dilute concentration.

i have used mg in veg phase. they went well. i haven not used it in flower. i allways give a good flush, before flipping, also. the veg nute that so far, has worked the best for me, is the canna terra vega.

What Clown baby said.

Miracle Gro is fine. . .*IF* you use the right product (there are at least half a dozen products with that name, including soluble fertilizers, slow release fertilizers, and different soils), and *IF* you know what you're doing with it. See here:

If you're asking about soils, bluntly, I don't think any of them are "great", and there definitely are better mixes out there. If you have to use one, I think the "moisture control" one is OK, and if you use it as a base for a mix with peat moss and perlite, you'll do a lot better than the stock mix.

Check out www.seemorebuds.com

He shows you how to grow over a pound of smokeable bud in 80 days using only Miracle Gro potting soil w/6 months time released fertilizer and some perlite. No extra added nutes. Just be sure to not over water them. Overwatering will cause the time release ferts to over feed your babies and burn the shit out of them. Just water till you get a little runoff and you should be good. Oh and one other thing, he does this all with CFL lights throughout the whole grow, veg and flower...Proof is in the pics which he has an abundance of. Good Luck

I have carried many a 5-gallon piss pump load to my plants when I grew in the desert SW. Little was available in the 60's except Miracle Gro or termater food or rose fertilizer.

This is true to some extent, but I think its a little more complicated than that.

Even though ultimately, many of the actual chemicals are the same, its not just a question of which chemicals are in there, but their concentrations and ratios that's important too.

The hydro formulas that lots of people like are not only purpose designed for hydroponics use, but actually tailored specifically for growing cannabis. So far as I know, none of the Miracle gro formulas were specifically optimized for cannabis. Miracle gro *might* work for hydro, though its certainly not going to work anywhere near as well as something designed for that specific application.

Again, cannabis ultimately is just another flowering plant, you don't need some sort of "magical" formula here to grow it, but you may be able to do better with a purpose-designed formulation over something basically designed to be cheap for garden vegetables.

In short, if that's all you have, use it.

Good point jog... If all your looking for is some good smokeable bud, miracle gro will do the trick...Granted there are far better nutes to use though.

Hard to answer this without more information.

If you're growing under limited vertical space maybe you don't want your plants to get too big! The main thing is just to avoid nutrient deficiencies that are going to hurt you plants. Any good commercial fertilizer added in even small amounts should prevent this sort of problem.

Also, for your consideration, some commercial soil mixes (I'm looking at you Miracle gro) already contain mixed-in slow release fertilizers. So you may do just fine with no more fertilizers, at least for your FIRST grow.

You can absolutely use it. I think ppl have the tendency to not like something and go too far with it. Not the best. I'd make my own personally. Get some ground dirt, soil of your choice, earthworm castings, maybe some banana peels etc, you don't need expensive soil unless you really have certain characteristics your after imo

I'd put it this way.

For hydro, you definitely don't want to use Miracle gro, that's for sure. If you can't afford real hydro nutes, then grow in soil.

For soil grow, while I agree there are better, I'm really not convinced there are "far" better, in the sense that you're going to see dramatically better (or even ANY better) results in terms of yield or quality with something else.

Ultimately any fertilizer/nute mix is going to contain NPK plus trace elements. Other than light, water, and CO2, that's all any plant really needs. Putting in more nutes than your plant can actually use doesn't help, and actually can hurt.

Bear in mind that not only do your plants probably not need that many trace elements, but pretty much all of these trace elements (with the possible exceptions of CA and Mg) are probably going to be found in any decent soil mix out of the bag, with it taking a good while before a growing plant depletes them.

You can slag Miracle gro all you like, but its actually a pretty comprehensive formulation that includes NPK, chelated magnesium, chelated iron, zinc, boron, copper and molybdenum. It lacks sulfur, but most soil has plenty already.

To my mind, the "best" fertilizer is just whichever one

a. Contains the elements your plant need in good proportion
b. Is available and affordable, and
c. Is easy to use.

Miracle Gro probably isn't optimal for "a", but it certainly has "b" and "c" in spades.

The thing with MG is it is high in NPK and is a slow time release. You will need to flush the living crap out of the plants to reduce the harshness. IF you have ever smoked pot that has been grown with MG you know the burning harsh smoke I speak of. There are so many better nutes out there for growing marijuana and you dont need to have a hydroponics supply store near you, that is what the internet is for. Order nutes online. Keep the MG for the flowers. And personally I prefer organic nutes not chemical but that is just me.

NPK ratios are just that: ratios. 1 TBS of 2-2-2 is the same as 1tsp of 6-6-6. By time release do you mean ammoniacal nitrogen vs nitrate nitrogen?? IMO that would matter a lot more in hydro than soil. Soil has nitrosoma that can break it down. Most people curb feeding towards the end of a soil grow anyways.

You can get harsh nutes from any nute brand if it's not used properly. Just because MG doesnt cost $40/liter at a grow shop doesnt mean it's not effective.
