Shroom Practice, What strains.

So I want to get into a Shroom growing hobby. Before I start spending money on Magic mushy spores and what not I want to try growing some edible mushrooms and get some practice in.

Are all mushies grown the same way or do some need certain methods? If the latter, what edible strain can I practice with that will give me the most experience when it comes to finally growing magic mushies??

Check out the homestead book company..they sell a magik mushie kit that is phenomenal... super easy to use and comes with instructions to make it indefinatly repeatable

believe it or not, about the easiest to grow are the ones you really want. Beyond that, if you are in the right temperature zone, try oysters. The others are pretty much out of reach for a novice for one reason or another.

oh yea based outta seattle.. i got thier p. cubensis kit and it produced 3 flushes for about 6 oz. dried....wish i woulda watched the dvd before i started though..the one kit could literally be used for a lifetime and 1000s of lbs for shooms if you get into it

So I should just start out practicing with the magics? lol Trial and error until I get it down?

I think I am just going to throw the $130 at that kit for my first time since they claim everything is automatic. $130 isn't too bad to me right now anyway. Also I would like to try other ways later on but if I could grow my first batch with an easy automatic kit then that is exciting enough for me for my first time.

Trust me its worth it, watch the dvd before you start it will tell you what you need to know to reproduce the results

dont spend that much ever!!!! i can show you my set up so easy and you can make your own jars for so much cheaper

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er1i3M-w51E
all you need is like a fish tank or clear tub some perlite jars and the mix also good site for spores http://www.bestspores.com/
my fav strain is thai tanic so worth the 40 us and once you start you can just keep spreading it from jar to jar never need to order anything again
just watch the video it will help alot
and if you dont have a presser cooker to clean the jars and mix cali grow kits sells just the jar and mix already cleaned http://www.caligrowkits.com/refill.php
they even have a cheap 44 us grow kit for them for starters
http://www.caligrowkits.com/easy-mushroom-kit.php
its to easy to not grow then they need little light and just a humidity tub or tank to grow in

Absolutly what im talking about
I bought that years ago. It worked. I got a couple of shrooms. It infected. I put it on a shelf.

A year later I tried again. PF Tek. It worked. I got some shrooms, not very many. SLOWLY.

I then moved to grain jars layed out into tubs. Magic. No wait for PF jars (they take FOREVER unless you have the perfect strain for it, and that's crapshoot).

I strongly suggest you do a bit of research, look up canndo's posts, and get the steps for popcorn->straw. Canndo will push you to ALWAYS case, I'll tell you to experiment, and do both.

Instead of that kit, buy a pressure cooker and order several different spore needles. You will find huge difference in growth rates, and will find a couple you LOVE. You will be able to keep the genetics, and never buy a spore needle again.

Everything else you need (mason jars, popcorn, straw) can be had for under $30, and a plastic tub for $10 if you need to buy one.

Have fun.

Yeah - just start out growing cubes -- mushrooms vary a lot and by far most people are familiar growing them. Imagine if you started growing cactuses to get practice growing pot - it just doesn't make sense.

Did you read where I said 130 isn't a problem for me? So for 130 I have to absolutely do no work and get mushies my very first time almost guaranteed. for 130 dollars I have no chance of fucking up anythign while trying to make the stuff and that is worth it right there.

Sorry that you might not have that much money and resort to making everything yourself.

That is exactly how I was when it came to hydroponics, everything was wayyyy cheaper to build yourself. In the end really it is just easier yo put money out for the real set up with pre fabbed parts with better quality once you start thinking about the time you save the better quality the parts are and then add all that up you really aren't saving that much at all to make it worth your time to build yourself

Keep us updated, I'm curious to see how this works out for ya
I will keep you updated, on if I buy it or not. I am pretty sure I am going to get it just for the convenience for being my first time. I'd rather have everything ready and prefabbed so I can just shake the bag and let it go then watch the mushies grow for the first time experience rather then try and fuck up my first time and not get anything and waste money on spores.

So I am pretty sure I will get that kit then buy the stuff I need to do my own set up. Then I can compare the two and see what is worth my time

P.Cubensis or Subcubensis
If you want the best (strongest) shrooms, I would suggest investing in some Penis Envy spores. By far the best mushrooms.
