What am I not doing right?

image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
Just moved my seedlings but having very little growth, any help please? Do I need my light to be closer? It's a 300 w 6400 cfl and the seedlings are sour diesel.

dont worry man chill!!! i don't know how far you have them from you babie by the looks its to far bring the light down so its about inch to 2 inch's away from plant put hand between the light and the plant if it feels ok not to hot that will be fine good luck....

how high is the water level in the buckets? should make sure the rockwool cubes at least gets moist.
btw annoying upside down picutes lol, you could had flip those in paint :P

Thanks dude I shall, I feel like a properly over protective parent lol, just it's my first grow and from seed they've shot up to where they are so quick and I guess I was just expecting them to keep going at the same rate, lowered my cfl to about 2 inches above seedlings, how often should I be hand watering until the roots get into my dwc?

Iron420 sorry iPad madness with the pics, my water level is just higher than my net pots and my rock wool is on a layer of clay pebbles bout inch thick

Ahh I see, the main problem here is your growing your plants upside down at the top and the light is at the bottom. This is never a good combination!

No bueno dude, bring it up a bit; you want that rockwool touching the water some. You should also try to keep light out of your buckets in the future, specifically by filling your net pots entirely. That light is algae waiting to happen.

OK in all seriousness, how old are they? They will spend the first part of their life building roots so once that has been done they will rocket off.

I can easily bring the water level up to the bottom of the Rockwool if that will help, I only left space in the net pots so I could get to Rockwool easily to hand water while I'm waiting for roots to take off, my plan is to cover in clay pebbles as soon as roots touch water. Batf1nk they were germinated on the 28th of sept moved them into pots on the 5th of oct

Yea if you dont have airstone close to the bottom of the netpot, blowing bubbles directly at it, make sure some of the rockwool is submerged under water untill you see roots coming out of the cube, and fill up the netpots completely, I had a small light leak in my reservoir and I noticed one root began to vegetate and turn green because of the light leak, it will try and grow and photosynthesise I think, I just cut some thick paper and folded around the stem and over my netpot.

batf1nk I was having a nightmare keepin water in the pots anyway so I've turned my whole system on its head, I've got water pumps in all pots so should I just fill up with clay pebbles and hand water through that?

Yes mate, when I was in DWC for the first week I water through the top just to keep it moist...

Taking into account all your dates above, all is dandy.. once that root system builds a little they will reach for the sky.

As has been said, stop that light getting in your res ASAP.. I had a shitty home made res that I was battling with light leaks through a whole cycle, let me tell you... it aint fun! Scummy white shit and algae will appear in your water, your pH will rise and fall like mad and ultimately the plants will be worse off.

Your off to a good start mate, keep it up. Remember, Patience is key.

If i understand you correctly; did you just state that you saw a root start "...to vegetate..." as in you mean it started to grow into a stem and leaves?

I think the main thing to say is that seedlings can sit and do almost nothing for up to 5 days while they build a root system...if they are a good green colour, with no sign of distress then you need to just be patient. Worrying can make you fiddle with them, fucking up a grow which otherwise would have been fine...just be careful not to over-do the care and attention.
Although weed is one of the fastest growing plants, checking on their progress every other hour is guaranteed to make them seem like they're doing nothing ;)

If you're running your DWC smart, you won't need to hand water. Just monitor your water level, the bubbles make a decent buffer. I have not had to top water with my DWC, even outdoor in 100F+ temps. Really though, bury all holes in your pots. You can even fully submerge the rockwool as well, you can't drown a plant in aerated water.

So I can bring my water level right up to and beyond my Rockwool? If that's the case then I will bring water level up and cover all holes in net pot with pebbles and let "nature" get on with it
