Choosing a nutrient line for my first hydro op, what do the fine people of this site

Im going to be running a flood and drain system from clone straight to flower. Im not familiar with hydro so I thought you guys would have some input. There are threads on here talking about nutrients, but they seem to be very biased opinions by the poster.

I am by no means of an authority but when I was just switching to hydro the Lucas formula and general hydroponics micro and bloom were great. I had so many other factors to dial in the simplicity of the nute program was beneficial to me. It's just 0/5/10 for veg and 0/8/16 for flower. That's 0 ml per gal of grow (don't need it the micro and bloom in the higher doses provide everything) 5ml micro and 10ml bloom. Cheap and effective. But that's just one route to go.

Lucas Formula should be used in the same ratio throughout the grow. There is a misconception that one should use 5ml of Micro and 10ml of Bloom, when in veg, and switch to 8ml of Micro, and 16ml of Bloom, when flowering.
This was never stated by Lucas himself. He originally stated that the 0-5-10 ratio was for LOW LIGHT situations (fluorescent lighting like PL/L and CFLs, or HID lamps less than 400W), whereas 0-8-16 is for medium to high light (400W+)

do you plan using any particular medium? the canna coco line is very high quality and compared to some brands very simple to use.

Would I not have to buy the veg nutes since Im going straight to flower? Any other good nutes? My friend really likes AN, but I wanted to think outside of the box.

still don't know how you intend to grow, will you be using rockwool, hydroton, coco or mapito etc.......

you can use plastic pots with coco in to good affect, canna coco is a two part that you use through veg and flower.

Pots with hydroton, sorry, didnt see that earlier post. I will NOT be vegging though. Does that mean I only have to buy the bloom parts?

yes it does, i would reccomend you buy some bloom nutes and maybe a bottle of nitrogen too (it's pretty cheap and plants like it during the early stages of flowering) sometimes because of the low amounts of N in bloom nutes you will have to supplement to stop yellowing. canna aqua flores is pretty good if not a little old fashioned, i would say probably go with advanced nutes sensi bloom a/b.

good luck.

It's whatever marketing/picture that you want to buy into. Other than that, you look at the NPK ratio. The best nutrient ratio can vary between indicas and sativas.

advanced nutes are far from the most expensive about, they work really well too. have you used them clown baby?

dont use lucas, use full line of flora series instead.

I tired dynagro, botnaicare, flora series.. rank in order

1. botnaicare
2. dynagrow
3. gh flora series..

go with botanicare.. very freindlya nd effective nutes. its organic though.. flora and dyna are not. so depends what you are looking

if you are going organic, botanicare, if synthetic, dynagrow

So I grabbed huge jug of floranova because I got a pretty good deal on it. I might take the advice of getting some nitrogen too.

Listen to your friend AN is the way to go. And you can think out side of the box I use Sensi Grow and Bloom as my base and I don't use Voodoo Juice, Parana, or Tarantula. I use Great White it has beneficial bacteria and fungi in one product. And instead of Bud Candy you could use Botanicare's Sweet even though there isn't much of a price difference. What I would do for a flood and drain during flowering is Sensi Bloom, Great White, Bud Candy or Sweet, and Sensizym or Hygrozym

Advanced Nutrients Sensi series (Grow and Bloom). Straight 2 ML/Liter of water regardless of their additive so it's simple to calculate. I'm new to hydro too and have my first 3 units running. 2 5-gallons and one 22-gallon 6 space. AN has been very easy to use to feed and keeps my pH dead on.

BTW I was a little low on dough when I fired that first unit up and the hydro store had them all. The cheapest decent HG Series at $32 and AN was $40. I use just AN in dirt with great results and decided $8 is not much more. Considering smoke is $10+ a gram nearly anywhere.

Something inorganic with quality nutrient buffers.
Nothing worse than scum in your tank, or your ratios going out of whack.

I use Canna Range (Flora and PK13/14 only), plus a little calmag for my rainwater and plenty of H2O2

i am a first time grower. i used House&Garden aqua flakes A and B with nothing else until i realized i needed more. the guy at the store was telling me that house and garden is one of those lines that are amazing, but don't mix well with other lines. so i got the whole house and garden line (except the drip clean), and let me tell you the only problem i have had was a bit of mildew and it was cuz i had 70+% relative humidity and close to 80F temps for a few days. i also use the great white with the H&G line. i've never tried anything else and have no intent to. its a tad pricey, but its worth it in the trouble you save and the end product ( from what i hear). also, you can check on their site how much/what you'll need using their nutrient calculator.

not all nutes are the same. some release faster than others and are available to the plant sooner, some activate slower. different brand will give you different grades. don't cheap out on nutes especially cause from what ive heard, you get really get what you pay for.

I am using GH 3 part with good results. I don't have much experience with other brands because they have worked well for me form the get go, and I don't like to change things unless I have to. I have tried their flora nova line and didn't like it. My results were not as good with the flora nova as they are with the 3 part. I have used just the 3 part with no additives with good results, Lucas with better results, and am currently running the Useless formula with a few additives. Results are great and getting better. I like that it's fairly simple and highly adjustable.
