50 Gallon Pot SOIL STAYS DRY UNDER SURFACE

My plants are starting to reach the edges of my 50 gallon pots. The sun does hit the pots during the day and I dont water every other day i usualy do every 3 days in the evening. Anyway I just used 8 gallons for each plant and the soil on top WONT SOAK WATER. So everytime I water them 2 gallons at a time it doesnt seem to help it stays dry under the surface. (Pic)

Just a guess mate but maybe your leaving them to long between waterings and the soil is to dry? maybe try cutting back on the amount you water and try watering more frequently. That would be my guess if you know the soil is of good quality if not maybe you need better soil or atleast an amendment or 2 to help with drainage.

Do you water them quickly? If you just dump gallons of water on them it will go right to the bottom. Spread out watering them. They look like more then 2 zips each to me.

barely 3 weeks ALMOST half way.. But yes I agree those guys were dicks. My plant on the right side is in GREAT condition lol. But yeah I might go water them again for a total of 10 GALLONS. what do you guys think?

thats what im thinking but I know a cannabis plant likes to dry out a little. i just hope i havent been cooking them by underwatering :/ at least its not a rookie mistake lol.

I wouldn't be so precise with the amounts mate, different size plants and pheno will have different up takes just water til you get the run off you want and then do it again when the top of the soil is dry and starts to pull away from the edge of the pot, this is just what I would do mind mate also those guys chatting shit about your plants were dicks you'll do fine out of them.

I waited about 5 minutes in between them watering 2 gallons at a time.

Maybe you need to look at adding some mulch into the top of the pot to stop the soil drying out so quickly. That or even place some plastic panda film on top of the pots... and next time you water try adding just a little bit of washing detergent into yr water mix, this will help make the water "wetter" and will make it more soluble into the soil.

Yup, use washing up liquid (containing anionic detergents).
Your soil has gone hydrophobic.

Sorry mate I've been smoking this mo I never put that very well, what I meant was when you water in your 10gals don't be set on that amount if you think they need more give it to them and vice versa, judge by the run off.
I only added the different amount for sizes etc because I've seen a few growers on here over the years thinking they have to stick to set amounts for whatever reasons usually because a friend says that's how they do it lol

dont buy into the theory of big planter = big pot plants all the time...

here is proof
one is a 60 gal one in 2 gal dif strains bubba vs orange crush.... the real difference is.. the 2 gal gets water 4x a day for her size and the bubba gets 1 every day or other day..


it's all about the love you give the ladies... and that oc and me have been on 4 dates so next week were getting it on..!

They were dicks because they gave you an opinion you didn't like the sound of? Ok.. Looking at the one of the left i'd have said 2-3 ounces, it's tall but there's not that much actually going on, not very many budsites, but guessing yields is exactly that, guesses.

Coco-wet by Spray-n-grow is like $7 online or at hydro store. Just add 1/2 tsp per gallon and water as normal. Ur soil is hydrophobic but the coco-wet will fix that. A couple drops of dish soap will do too.

So how do you keep your soil from becoming hydrophobic? is it simply because i let my ladies dry out a little bit too much and the top layer of soil dried out too much? oh and after ten gallons of water they were not hydrophobic anymore.
