'The Vapor Room, which has been a Haight Street mainstay since 2004, is shutting down due to increased pressure from U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag, who cited the collective's proximity to the Duboce Park playground as the reason for her actions.'

Duboce Park Playground...Complete and Utter Bullshit. The state gov't giveth and the fed taketh away. One last chance to visit them next weekend when I'm in SF for the show.

Looks like the Feds are seizing D'Angelos Harborside property in a civil 'forfeiture' action too. Must be some kind of park near there as well. Truly a sad state of affairs. Initiatives mean nothing. The 10th amendment is nonexistent.

If you're drawing over 50Kw hrs/day on a residential service.... I suggest don't

hey everyone!

sorry for the offline-ness.. we had a snafu with the comcast folks, but it's all resolved now.

the girls are looking GREAT. the MP is budding hard with her 39 or so tops, and the cannatonic is rocking close to 45 tops - both are on day 16. the WF and AO crowned their tops last night (now at 11 days), and the OL is on day 3 of bloom and was topped and scrogged last night. the tent is CROWDED. i need to get dinner still and then sort out some DWC clones and then i can look into reading what i've missed and then potentially make a fresh video update.

be well everyone!

Man I wish I could get the yeild that I see alot of others get, I swear I only get 8-14 gms per plant and shake my head like wtf?
I tryed coco coir and could never keep the ph balanced. Now Im running a stinkbud aeroponic hydro type system and still have to strugle with ph. Ive been useing the botanicare stinkbud recipe for a few years now but im so tired of adjusting ph like three times a day that I recently switched to AN Sensi grow and bloom PH Perfect. The ph perfect stuff stays at 6.3 but needs atleast a 1080 ppm to stay there and not swing. Im using two par 420's to flower with and litro glo bulbs to veg. I veg for 12 weeks but at 12 they only get a foot and a half tall. It seems that they just stop growing after veg and start yellowing from the bottom up. At 9 weeks flower I get the shitest yeilds. Im so sick of it im about to throw in the towl. I know its from the ph swings so I need help finding the right nute that stays ph balanced and for hydroponic. Here are my stats but im doing it all right, right? temp 82/72, humidity 45%, veg lights on 24/7, flower 12on12off, vent fresh outside air in/ inside air out, strains are... lsd...superlemonhaze... and lemonskunk. PLEASE for the love of bud help me out!
I also use calmag, liquid karma, and sweet.

ouch. 8-14g per plant isn't worth the cost, imo.

theres a few things that i would suggest if you were just wanting to reboot to something that should do better than what you describe. please feel free to modify them, use some or all:

1) go back to soil. soil buffers pH naturally. i only worry about pH if the plants show stress that i can't resolve within 2-3 days. in any event, if you have issues it's good to monitor your run-off for pH and ppm.

2) use EM. soil beneficials are wonderful for stabilizing the rhizosphere in regards to pH and nutrient availability.

3) experiment with organic fish based nutes. Alaska brand fish emulsion may stink, but i have never had a bad grow with that stuff. add their Mor-Bloom 0-10-10 in bloom and its the same results as 90% of the pricey stuff at the hydro shop.

4) i'm not familiar with the veg bulbs you mentioned (you arent meaning those old school incandescent grow n show bulbs, are you?), but if you can, veg with a 420. i veg with 2 200s and love it. the plants grow so fast and the plants that are between the 200s, without a light directly above them still grow straight up, no phototropic bias to either side. my plants hit a foot and a half tall in a few weeks. i'm thinking that when they go from a light that isn't so pleasing to them to a high PAR lamp, that they might stress similar to if you put your indoor girls outside on a hot summer midday for a few hours.

5) maybe bring the temp down a bit. below 55F, plant metabolism is very slow. for every 10F increase in temp, plants can demonstrate a 1x-3x increase in metabolism (species dependent). this tops out at around 85F. only plants in top health can keep it up in that temp range on the normal, because they need to be able to support that high metabolic load systemically. dial it down to the low-mid 70s and that should afford them the opportunity to slow down for a few days and recover from that stress.

6) look into the benefits of gardening with molasses. nuff said.

for the record, i clone to soil, plugs, aeroponic and dwc. once rooted, clones go to 3 or 4 inch squares of soil for 2 weeks, then 1gal for 2 more weeks. then 3gal, followed by 7gal, where they finish. veg is 2 200PARs, and bloom is 2 420PARs. veg temp/RH, i do not monitor that. bloom temp is dependent on ambient; normally it's 85F/45% lights on and 73F/50% lights off. cold days in portland will see the temp drop a max of 10F, in which case it's usually wet so i run the dehumidifier and that restores the "warm day normal". veg is on 24/7 as well and veg is 12/12.

strains are generally irrelevant when it comes to diet in my experience (but i hear that ruderalis takes 1/2 the nutes, but i dont know from experience). i have about a dozen different flavors, and they only get difference in their diet depending on how old they are, and how fast they are growing. my last watering, i mixed 12 gallons the same, and each plant took a quart of each gallon. that was for the CT, MP, AO and WF all in 7s.

well, i need to water some clonelings and then i'll be getting that new vid up!

IMO the plants that I've taken from a MH to an HPS have always taken a week or so to acclimate to the different spectrums. If you have 90% of the UV range covered under a 420 why veg with anything else and create an environment where you didn't get the best UV spectrums I've ever seen? The 420 is meant for veg-bud out of a single broad spectrum phosphor blend try it next run and you'll see a difference. A small yield is a qtr lb per plant

Do you have a lot of aeration in your nutrient resevoir?? This is common and often overlooked by most. Aerating your water does have a huge impact on PH swings. Don't believe...try without the air stone and see the PH stabilise. In fact aeration is only really necessary in DWC. Aeroponics does not require any more aeration, the method allows for more oxygen than your airstone will ever impart into the water. Hope that steers you in the right direction.

Ive tryed the 420 in veg and wasnt much differnce so i just stick with the litro glow bulbs for veg, they work great for veg. What I think Im getting is nute lock out from the wrong ph. I know there has to be a stable ph nute plan for hydro out there that stops the nute lock outs like the ph perfect is supposed to. Over the next few weeks ill see because so far it is stable and its suposed to open up the ph scale to a wider ph range thats safe to grow in say a 4 up to an 8 point ph! Well see but I was really hoping that someone already knows what is ph stable and really works well with hydro.
As far as soil I have the worst luck with it and im a firm believer that my roots can breath better suspended in air then in a bucket of dirt just as if you took in a breath of air, pretty easy huh? Now stick your head in dirt and try to breath....see my point? The ph perfect should fix my problem but Its to expensive and Im asking you guys if there is a better way with hydro nutes. Im thinking of trying the molasses, I herd its the same as carbo load and stacks on the weight! How do you apply it per gal? Really would like a tryed and tru method instead of hoping and praying all the time. Thanks guys for any help you have... really, thanks!

All of the trees, bushes, grass, and various other green plants I see when I look out my window tell me soil is a great medium for growing in.

No aeration and yes your right about soil being a great medium but I believe aeroponics is an improvment that I havnt been taught how to master it yet.

Well, not to get all fussed up, but if you can't grow successfully in soil I wouldn't expect much better results in hydro. Soil is much easier (although I've yet to try hydro). Water it and forget it, can't get much easier than that.

yeah but my major problem with soil is that when your ph and ppm starts coming out the bottom all wack you have to start flushing the hell out of it and get it right again. With hydro I can just change it on the fly. The plants also tell you that somthing is wrong faster and they respond faster to your adjustments vs soil it takes more time to adjust back and forth. The only big downside that i have to hydro is the ph swings witch will leave you adjusting it alot unless you know of a stable nute system witch I dont..

k, so i hate my phone/camera/etc... 3 efforts to shoot the video and it was coming out choppy in both video and audio... i decided to reboot it and it seems to have resolved the issue however i am now way past wanting to play with the youtube to get it up... i'll post it when i get up.

@ logic: when watering in soil or coco, you want to aim for runoff every time. i generally aim for 10% runoff every watering and i also lead in every watering with at least a quart of clean water before i start the feeding. you could also do the "feed 2 times and then just water the 3rd, repeat" approach with just about anything and have no issues. personally, i have a PH1 pen and i never use it. i use RO water, use either the last of the remaining Canna i have on hand or Medi-One (fish emulsion from Green Planet) that i was given as a sample at my local shop (or just some Alaska brand), or use some of the super-secret-splifferous-special-sauce that i have been working on. my point is that imo, the KISS approach is the best for novice and pro alike. even soil herb tastes better... the benefits you site still don't outweigh the lack in connoisseur patient grade details like palate, aroma, potency... even when done by a pro. for someone that has issues with soil, getting more complicated doesn't seem like it would lead to better results. the fact that you have that much control means that you really need to understand WHAT is going on more so that just being able to follow a feeding schedule. also, comparing a plant and it's physiology to that of a mammal is not wise. consider light... our light sensing organs are eyes, and we use them to see. the main organ in plants interested in light are chloroplasts, and they use light to create sugar from water and air. they do not have eyes; we do not photosynthesize. we also are unable to gain worthwhile nutrition via foliar feeding, as our plants can. i could go on and on... i mean it's not like i'm comparing apples and bananas... at least those are both fruit.

imo, if fancy stuff (not designed for the novice) isn't working out to be worth the cost, then step back to more basic approaches and use cheaper nutes. seriously, go get some regular nursery containers, some soil (basically anything that's not associated with monsanto/round up/miracle grow, and some "Alaska Fish Emulsion". google that, and get it. maybe some nice kelp meal/extract too. also get some sort of mycorrhizal/bacterial soil inoculant - the more diverse the micro herd in it the better. i prefer the stuff that has a lot of both fungi and bacteria. make sure it has Glomus, Trichomaderma, and Bacillus at a minimum. there are many specie within those named genus, and so again, try to get as many as you can, and the more the better. other goods are Streptomyces, Psudomonas, Rhizopogon, Rhizobium, Azospirillium... thats just naming a few... there's a lot!

also, do your girls a favor and do some studying on what it is that you give them. not the manufacturers hype, but actually what the ingredients are and why they are chosen for agricultural use. there is NOTHING marketed to a cannabis grower that hasn't already been used for years by regular ole corn farmers. it's just that there is too much money to be made from people that just want to pour excellent herb out of a store bought bottle and call it a day. they will literally pay 3x the price for a bottle marketed to them that contains a re-brand of something that is a decade old on the ag/farm market, and that marked up cannabis-oriented product usually suffers additional dilution and a smaller bottle as well.

i'd love to go on, but this is a thread about these bad-ass lamps, and i want to try to keep it on that point. i hope i didn't type anything that came off pushy or harsh; it's late and my back is really beginning to burn in a bad way. it's just that you seemed to ask my input directly, and this is what i have for you. it does come from genuine concern for your situation; otherwise i'd be telling you what new expensive crap would fix it all like magic and end up doing nothing but nothing and leaving you lighter in the wallet. you can do much better if you just rolled back to simple. something that isn't so "dialed in' because your approach isn't dialed in. soil, container, plant, organic (non-synth) nutes, clean water, start at 1/2 str nutes... do not try to push the plants. think of it that you are only providing for their needs. if you give them something they don't need, you make it harder for them to get what they do need, and you hold them back. kill them with kindness... the beauty of the "slowness of soil" is that it doesn't demand that you check the pH 3 times a day. you can take it easy with them and see over 2-3 days how they like the little changes you make. i don't follow a schedule. i wing it literally as i am mixing their feed. i just watch my girls and give them what they need.

my friends call me the bud whisperer... lol.

well, i'm now officially rambling, and i reserve the right to return after some sleep and edit this post... ttfn everyone.
