Just wondering. I understand that there are ppl that medicate for legit reasons, arthritis, backpain, depression, MS, etc... What I want to know is if anyone smokes just to get high? Everyone talks about getting medicated, even at parties... I was at a party not too long ago and everyone was drinking and smoking, having a good time. I of course was hanging out with the ppl that were smoking and one guy (who had been smoking the entire time) says I need to medicate... I called BULLSHIT, you're gonna get high, you don't have to lie to us that's what we all are doing, getting high. He laughed and said that I was right... so is medicating the new word for getting high?
Stay high or should I say Stay medicated???

I smoke for several reasons... the biggest one and most relevant is as an Australian I like to get fucked up... I have issues with alcohol abuse so I get my fuckedupedness from Marijuana instead while most of my mates drink...

Stoner here. Hate the "medical" excuse. Any idiot in california can go to a "doctor" and complain about insomnia and get a "prescription". Just admit you're stoners!

I smoke to get high but it does help with my bi polar depression. My wife has a card for chronic pain but she still likes to get high. I think most people if they are honest smoke to get high regardless if they have a medical reason or not. All the medical aspect does is make it legal if your lucky enough to live in a liberal state.

i don't smoke weed for medical purposes. well at least i didn't. currently i am on a smoking hiatus due to career changes. anyways, i am big on legalization of recreational use, not just for medical purposes.

Lol this is a medical state thing thats happening, an earlier post in the toke and talk a member complained that as weed is becoming more "legit" we are losing our stoner culture. No longer is everyone who smokes cool, down to share. Now people have THEIR medicine, not party bud.
Glad most of my group havent been touched by this.

Honestly i feel if you are using marijuana you are getting high. I mean yes cannabis has a multitude of medical qualities but if i have cancer im going to be on something stronger than marijuana (well and marijuana :))

I get high, and I medicate. Can't I do both at once?

Though I prefer to ask other patents, when asking if they smoke/eat weed, "Do you medicate?" This is better than asking, "Do you get high?" as I feel that's a very singular, subjective question. And it's better than asking, "Do you smoke?" Because this can be confused with cigarettes.

I've been asked out in public on more than one occasion, "Do you smoke?". Me not giving a caring, not thinking, and wanting to see where this is going (me probably high) I answer honestly, "Yeah, I smoke". Then that's usually followed up by the person asking if I can spare a ciggarette. I don't even smoke cigarettes . Sorry dude, misunderstood the question.

On the cannabis:
I literally go crazy without my cannabis. Not to say there are never weeks that go by where I don't get high, there are. I'm just a totally different, miserable person. I don't just medicate for mental pain either, I medicate for physical chronic back pain. So the cannabis keeps that at bay too. Perhaps they are related, perhaps they are not. But my fuse certainly gets shorter, and shorter as my pain gets more and more severe.

Medicating helps me maintain myself as a functioning, contributing member of society.

Whatever, I use it for both.
If im bored, and something spacey comes on the tele, or i want to play video games, then im getting high.
If i have a stomach ache, or i can't sleep, or i just feel like my blood pressure is creeping up (stupid kids stressing me at work) then im going to medicate.

I feel what you're saying though OP, call it what they like its still getting high off marijuana. I think both words are acceptable, but i think medicating should only be used in situations in which the plant is being used to alleviate some physical condition other than the angst that is existence.
