Doing it big in the Northwest

Hello everyone, my name is Guido 93 and I am here to share with you my knowledge in growing outdoor ɔɥǝǝqɐ (cheeba).

I will be updating throughout the summer with pictures and information about soil, nutrients, cures for pests and disease (hopefully we will not need to get into this)
I live in the middle of the city. Luckily my roof has a balcony which is secluded and not visible from any other rooftop.
I am currently growing in two different pots of the same strain (Alaskan Thunderfuck); a 32 gallon plastic recycle bin and a 20 gallon airpot.
Choosing this strain was easy for it's shorter flowering time and stout growth. The plants are newly rooted clones I took from my mother plant.

One issue I have is the short amount of light I get on my rooftop. The plants receive light from sun (4:30-5 a.m.) up to about 6 p.m. rather than a full 18 hours of sunlight.

I am using a locally made soil which i have been using for a long time.

Cost:
Each bag of soil is $7.50 when bought in bulk (+10).
So far I have bought 12 = $90
20 gallon air pot = $13
32 gallon bin = $15
Wood (to build a dolly) = $3
Wheels (x8 ) and screws = $60 :sad:
Kelp meal = $9
Bone meal= $9
Bat guano= $9
Total Cost = $208

The 32 gallon pot:

Here I have drilled more than 100 tiny holes alongside the bin to help air circulation and drainage.
I have added kelp meal, bone meal, molasses, and bat guano to the soil.

The 20 gallon air pot:

No nutrients were added.
One problem I have with this pot is that the pot is so short it is shadowed by my balcony railing.
This prevents morning light from reaching the plant. I will however be building the dolly for this plant at 2".

Plants are now in a greenhouse (100$) :)


  • Cost:

always wondered how a plant would turn out in a 32 gallon bin, should be tall as hell. subbed for sure. what greenhouse did you get and how is it so far

Decided today that I will not use CO2.
My next challenge is keeping the day and night time temperature differentials at zero.

p.s. if I could sleep in there comfortably I would --- soon to come, a hammock

I bought it at Home Depot. The material is nice and I will soon be securing it to some cinder blocks to withstand the huge amount of wind in the later parts of the year.
They are happy and away from the rain, which is my main concern in my area. I may need to consider a de-humidifier though. I noticed a lot of condensation. Though this is not a problem in veg, this might be bad for the budding stages.

Your trying to run things in your GH that are either A: going to run you a lot of money in power or B: won't make any bit of noticeable difference. If you're going to run a dehumidifier or a Co2 system 1 you need a well sealed area or your going to lose Co2 and fight the climate with a dehumidifier. Your better off opening the windows and doors of the GH and letting the hot summer day equalize the heat/humidity. The more heat the more condensation mind you so you can go ahead and use a dehumidifier or save $$ open the flaps and let the summer evap the humidity. Also don't water so much if you fear it's getting too wet in there. Im running coco coir and peat moss only and I can get away with 3-5 days in 80-90* weather between waterings in 5gals. no condensation on my walls

we do not have hot summer days....
It's mainly cold and rainy, especialllllllllllly at the end of the budding stage.

no it's a lovebird. I got it a week after it hatched, old enough where I don't need it's mother to feed it.

I put in the soil kelp and bone meal, bat guano, and epsom salt (for magnesium). This is just for the 32 gal, blue dream and chocolope. I put a tiny layer pf epsom salt on the tops of my 1gal plants.

I sadly only have room indoors to veg, so I sell clones during the summer. The outdoor season is not as sunny as I wished it to be, but some sun is better than rain.... even though it's still raining just about every goddamn day. I am hoping July and August will bring better weather..... :/

I am really worried about the rain coming early this year and having moldy buds... yet again. Last year's crop was horrible, I only harvested about 1/4 of buds. If only I had built a large enough greenhouse. Luckily I am smart and am growing my plants to fit the greenhouse, rather than fitting the greenhouse around my plants.

bullshit.

last summer was bad, but we still got 80 degree days full of sun on end after the second week of july. it wasn't even that bad until early october.

the summer before that we had almost 10 days in a row of nearly 100 degree weather. we harvested the final sativa up in vernonia on november 5th, when the temps were still 90 degrees. it did not rain from july 5th to early october and was very hot.

you're on a rooftop and lost 3/4 of your crop to mold last year? did you wait until december to harvest? i lost about 40% of mine, and i was in a greenhouse with a lawn growing under it and profuse leaks above.

dude, i'm sorry to invade your thread like this, but you have some grossly inaccurate things to say. also, that bird looks abused for 3 weeks. we have bantam chicks at 2 weeks with way more feathers than that and looking way more healthy. and they still have to huddle under their mamma for warmth most of the day. i sure hope that thing lives is all.
