Magnifier Question for Harvesting

Hey guys,

I am 4 weeks in the growing process, and my babies are healthy so far. I ve been reading about trichomes and their cloudy, clear, or amber state.

I am going to buy a magnifier for this job, but I am not sure what x magnifier should I use. There are like 10x ones, 40x ones, 100x ones, 150x ones.

How much "power" i need to see them?

i have a 40x one I got real cheap off of amazon and it works just great. higher magnification up to 100x is good too, just depends how much you want to spend, but anything over that is rather pointless, as you will be able to see just fine anywhere from 40-100x

You need at least a 30x mag to accuratley know what state the trichomes are. You should also use it during your grow to check for pest.

I have 15x, 30x and 45x. I like the 45x for trichomes and use the others for bug inspection, sexing and whatever. I would not want anything much stronger than the 45x as it would be hard to hold steady.

i use the 60 -100x scopes. just way easier to get a good look with out hurting those old peepers. U are going to want to be able to accurately determine the slight color changes of the trichs. especially if u grow sativa strains. hope it helps.

Amazon sells ones u can hook up to ur computer. About 30-40 bucks. Long as you see trich color. Clear to cloudy is best. It's the newest info right off thigh times.

If you want to see whole forests of trichs pick up a vintage school microscope on ebay for like 20 or $30. Vastly superior to anything hand held.

Yeah snip off a sugar leaf. Or two. I tried moving the whole plant upstairs. Then try to manage the microscope while the slightest movement blurs your picture. Get a scope with a stand you need it cause you can't hold the scope and the plant steady at the same time. Scopes are great tools. You won't regret buying one.

In checking trichs you should take a couple samples from different areas of each plant and then sort of average them for % cloudy.
