Post office confiscating mail?

We all know what happens when your beans get found by customs, but what happens when the post office finds them?

It's been over a month since my order arrived in the country. So it got past customs I would assume.
Has this happened to anyone? I would much rather a thief at the usps get them than the authorities.

Cashman, I got them from Attitude. But I am freaking out because they did their part in sending them. I tracked them and they made it to the U.S. I know customs just takes them and sends a letter, but I don't know what the USPS would do if they found them. My main concern is getting my door knocked on by some guy with a badge. I would much rather think some employee just stole them and never sent it, rather than the authorities find it.

I'm never doing this again. It's too much stress. I'm not even mad about losing money. I just don't want to get in trouble with the law. I am a regular guy that just wanted to quit paying for weed from bullshit ass street dealers.

I hope you're right. I'll keep waiting.

If it made it past customs then I dont think you have anything to worry about... If you saw the video of the Fedex guy throwing the TV can you imagine how they treated your box at USPS? Shit... Your seeds are proibably smashed on the floor of the sorting facility.... You have nothing to worry about.......

What the USPS does when they find a suspicious package:

Postal Inspector tries to get in touch with the "Receiver", asks you if you know about a package being sent to you, just deny knowing

They will ask you if they can look in it due to:
First-Class® letters and parcels and Express Mail® are protected against search and seizure under the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, and, as such, cannot be opened without a search warrant. If there is probable cause to believe the contents of a First-Class Mail letter or parcel or an Express Mail piece violate federal law, Postal Inspectors can obtain a search warrant to open the mailpiece. Other classes of mail do not contain private correspondence, and therefore may be opened without a warrant.

So you can give them permission to look in it see what it is, if they mention the seeds then just tell them you don't check your mail all that often and someone must be using it for a drop spot or something. If they don't find the seeds for some ungodly reason and tell you there is a mug or shirt in there or something tell em to just send it through so you can have whatever it is since it was destined for you apparently and you could use a new mug or shirt lol :D

dont worry buddy, i've had the tracking say they were on the east coast when in reality they were sitting on my lap halfway across the country. the tracking is not as accurate as we'd like it to be. i dont even check the tracking anymore. and during this holiday season everything takes longer.

also read Massahs post, bcuz hes 100% right on the money. do not worry, do not stress yourself, i'm waiting on multiple orders for weeks now ;)

donutpunch, Enzogrowspot, brimck325, massah, JCashman...Thank you all for the replies. I feel a hundred times better. Massah, that's a great post. I was not aware of the search and seizure law, so that's comforting.

I tried to give you all likes but kept getting an error. I will consider this thread done and will update if they arrive.:-|

I don't know man. If you can't even handle the stress of them arriving to you, how are you gonna do when they are actually full flowering, stanky ass plants that could land you in the klinker for some real time?

On a serious note, they are probably fine and is just taking longer because of holiday mail. I've had to wait for over a month to get seeds from some banks. But, I've also had them take no more than a week too, so it just depends. Just keep calm & carry on :)

Im on the eastcoast and my longest order NOT on a holiday took 28 so you could be waiting up to 2 more weeks because of how swamped they are. I have had one of my packages get found by customs when I was dumb and ordered seeds from sweden, but werid thing is they actually sent my seeds with my package. I got the letter, and giant green dept. homeland security tape that taped over wear they tore the package open and in giant letters in black pen on the tape said "Marijuana Seeds". I did make a post with pic of package on here awhile back but im too lazy to find the link to post. I only ordered like 15 seeds so its not like im some giant drug kingpin, nor do I even sell any unless a friend is really in need so thats probably too small to even waste man power on investigating, I also dont send packages to where I grow.

Just relax, smoke a bong, and get what you need to do to get your grow started (nutes, soil, setting up grow lights, and such).

I receive mail and small packages (not seeds) direct from Asia and Europe all the time.

While I'd say average shipping time from Europe or Asia is about two weeks, the time delay is HIGHLY variable. It depends on where they are being sent from, time of year, and for all I can tell, what appears to be dumb luck. In general letters run faster than packages. I've had small packages arrive from mainland China in literally 5 days, but I've also had packages take as long as 5-6 full weeks after confirmed shipping. I've had packages shipped from two different locations at the same time arrive weeks apart.

In terms of receiving seeds in the mail, generally its not worth Customs/HSA's time to chase these things too much.

You have to realize customs is screening for all kinds of things: actual drugs, explosives, dangerous chemicals, biologic agents, ammo and weapons, live vegetation (with infectious risk), foodstuffs, etc. They're already overworked and underpaid.

Yes, cannabis seeds are contraband, but ultimately they're just seeds, and by themselves pose no risk to anybody. Compared to the other truly dangerous stuff they're looking for, seeds are small potatoes.

Customs is a Federal agency, and while in theory they could turn a case over to the DEA, FBI, or even local law enforcement for investigation, there has to be a pretty good reason before they'd actually do it.

Those Federal agencies are also overworked/understaffed, and they have bigger fish to fry. The currency of "value" for DEA and FBI and the like are big high profile busts. They want to nail big drug kingpins and make big seizures or drugs, weapons and cash, that look good on the tube and get press. They don't so much care about Joe Schmoe growing a few pot plants in his basement. Unless they think its going to lead to a big bust, or they have some other specific reason to be interested in the party in question, these agencies aren't going to want to spend time chasing a few seeds.

Further, trying to actually prosecute a case like this could be tough. Just because seeds arrive at spot "X" doesn't mean the person who checks the mail at spot "X" ordered them, even if the package is addressed to them. Its tough to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that person "X" ordered the seeds, particularly if the one receiving the seeds denies it and there is no other evidence of growing.

If they want to prosecute you for possession, you have to actually possess the seeds. . .if the seeds have been seized, you don't possess them!

In theory, if they can prove that you ordered them, that could be construed as intent to manufacture/cultivate which is a crime. However, again, without other evidence of cultivation (which would require further investigation to develop, probably including issuing of a search warrant), a charge like that could also be hard to make stick.

Here's an example of what can happen when police jump to conclusions about this sort of thing. A bunch of cops assumed that package "X" full of actual marijuana (not seeds) was intended for the addressed recipient, and conducted a violent raid on his house, killing both his pet dogs in the process. Not only was recipient totally innocent, but he was actually the MAYOR of the town in question!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berwyn_Heights,_Maryland_mayor's_residence_drug_raid

Anyway, usual customs policy on this is to seize the seeds, send a scary looking letter to notify the recipient that they've been confiscated, and let things go at that.

As for the US postal service, as mentioned, they aren't allowed to open first class mail without a search warrant, and unlike US Customs/HSA the post office's primary task is NOT to try and identify contraband, but rather just to make sure the domestic mail gets from point "A" to point "B" in a timely manner.

As a matter of practice, any postal branch will handle literally hundreds if not thousands of packages a week, and tens of thousands of letters. Something is going to have to look REALLY suspicious before a post-office employee is going to want to go to the trouble of actually opening up a formal investigation, and I don't think a small letter or package with seeds hidden inside would qualify. Also, in my experience, postal workers generally aren't looking for extra work to do or to stick their necks out.

Ordered Late night 12/23 and received this morning to east coast. Would have gotten them yesterday, but was not home. Had to go to post office this morning before work to sign for package before it left again to find me not home. No issues...

Two more things.

You can trust that US customs. . .whose specific job it is to find contraband including cannabis seeds. . .will know what cannabis seeds look like.

But the US Post office? Not so much.

Of course some USPS workers know what cannabis seeds look like, but I doubt all of them do. Even if, say, a package were accidentally ripped open and there were seeds in there, I think at least a good chunk of USPS workers wouldn't even know what they were looking at.

And again, none of them should be actively looking for this stuff. Assuming the sender did their job right, there should never be a reason why USPS should find seeds.

I knew a guy who used to work in the Post office, and he told me that yeah, they would regularly read magazines and catalogs and stuff like that that was sent openly through the mail. As you might imagine from the stereotypes, the postal workers could get away with slacking off, screwing up in all sorts of ways, etc. But the one thing that they all knew NOT to do was to open or steal private mail.

Which isn't to say it never happens, because it does, but every post office worker knows that if they're caught opening or stealing mail, not only will they probably lose their job (and trust me, lots of these guys couldn't find jobs in the "real world"), but they could be subject to Federal criminal prosecution. If any post office employee were to deliberately open mail to find seeds, the last thing they'd do is admit to it!

So bottom line, USPS intercepting mailed seeds is a pretty remote possibility. To the extent that something like this is going to happen, it will probably be customs finding them, because they're the ones actually looking.

Good posts Jogro. I am going to assume the best outcome. And according to the other two that posted that just now got their beans, they have been waiting as long as me almost. So that tells me this is just a slow business. And the holiday rush contributes. I am lot less worried than I was 2 days ago all thanks to my fellow posters.

I am new at this. I feel that all this worry popped my cherry and was all for naught.

Thanks peoples.

a month is a while, if you end up getting them I bet you forget all about that "never doing this again" statement :) but if you're going to quit buying beans do it now because it gets just as addicting as your need for weed.
