2 foot by 1 foot is a pretty small footprint. Not saying it can't be done but I'd need more information to assist you properly.

ok so if i get 5 cup. just regular cups. is it ok if they have no drainage cause i have seen seeds started in cups with no drainage if not then i can find some way and can i use potting soil or is there another type of soil at home depot tht might provide a better enviroment for them to start

ok ill post pix when i can. its 2 feet tall, with a 1 foot by 1 foot width. all lined with tin foil (reflective side showing), and a nice cfl at the top. a vent at the top ( just a cup cut into the box) and a computer fan venting inwards towards the bottom wired to a 9v. yes ik this is very ghetto but its a temp while i am building my computer case grow box.

Seedling starting mix is $5 for a small bag and should be enough to fill 5 party cups. I suggest figuring out a way to make some drainage though, as that is extremely important. You might be able to germ and veg for a week or two in your box, but one cfl isnt gonna cut it. Why are you limiting yourself to such a small grow space?

I had a similar set up my first grow.

Your looking for a short answer but this is a short answer with a tldr; long answer after.

Any plain potting soil. Make sure there no added nutrients. Miricle grow is bad.
A bag of vermiculite and/or perlite. Get both bags if you can.
That's a good basic soil combination thats easy to make. 3 parts soil 1 part vermiculite and/or 1 part perlite.

Tldr;
You have room for 1 plant, only start a few at a time so as not to waste seeds. Your 1 light is weak at best and wont generate enough light for healthy plants. Ventilation will be an issue later. Keep your light mere inches away com your seedlings. Party cups ( red or blue plastic ones) work great for seedlings.

You will have to work with the same conditions as I will pretty soon.
I also have a 1 x 1 x 2 space, that's 1 sq foot and 2 cubic feet to work with. I like micro grows, it's so small that it becomes very manageable and it's easier to ensure optimal growing conditions.

Check out my thread: https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/482239-input-1sq-foot-micro-grow.html#post6550050

A few comments:

First, forget about growing more than 1 plant in that setup. I hope you have feminized beans, also pay attention to the strain and invest into shorter / bushier Indicas as they will be more manageable in that space.

Second thing that I noticed, you have a fan blowing into the growbox. This is not necessarily bad, but it's not the most efficient way to ventilate. I wont go into the details of Positive pressure buildup vs Negative pressure here, suffice to say you need to reverse your system: Put the fan on the extraction side (Sucking air out) and use passive intake holes that are 1.5 times the diameter of the exhaust (No need to use fans for the intake).

Third: Get more light and use a SCROG set-up (put a net 8 - 10 inches above the plants) Lots of info on the site.

Oh and get the books :P

Hope this helps.

White paint works for me, foil is just shit so never use it. Using nothing is a better option than foil unless you can lay the foil perfectly flat with no wrinkles at all. Since your in res I'm assuming you have inspections and people in and out all the time.

You are about to learn the number one rule of growing pot.

RULE #1

Never tell anyone your growing marijuana.

Ever!

And because your not a medical user I have to step back from your grow and just wish you good luck on your endeavors.
