I am here to change my opinion. I was wrong. I previously underestimated the cost. I have been spending more time doing garden related tasks than I thought. Not everything goes optimally. Ideally it would, and hopefully with time I will become a more efficient grower, but I continue to make mistakes and improve. I also recently had all my medicine go moldy. That was a lot of electricity, nutes, time tending, time trimming, and time drying with absolutely nothing to show for it except 20 ounces of nauseatingly musty weed. That is a big loss to eat.

I still think it can be done cheaper than the dispensary charges, but not as cheaply as I previously thought.

Do you pay for lettuce? For apples? For bread? Would you expect the farmer that grows corn to give it away at harvest time? These things are all legal yet still require supervised cultivation to produce a decent product. Some people are smart and grow their own tomatoes, but did they do it for free? At the end of the season, is their financial contribution zero?

Do you think without commercial style farming we could feed the world? How much of the food you eat is farmed by you and your family? If your family grew a bunch of food, would you want to feed the other families on your block for free?

You're making the argument that weed should be 100% free. Any reasonable person could see that in order to do that, growers would have to pay for facilities, resources and logistic from their own pocket, and donate their time for no other reason than providing you with free drugs. It seems you haven't given your position even the slightest thought, which leaves you incapable of holding any sort of informed opinion.

If your argument is that MMJ patients are getting ripped off, then why would they be against legalization? How does being ripped off qualify them as being greedy? I don't get why being compensated = greedy bastards. I don't sell, but if it became legal I'd like the option of making a little extra money. Working on a cannabis farm would be great!

Under the current system, yes they will. Under a Regulate Marijuana Like Wine system though, the honest good growers can make a "reasonable" living catering to those that just don't have a greenthumb or can't grow because of circumstances.

In Cali, for dispensaries to profit is against the law. That is the way the law was written. Period!
If someone wants to pot profit then get out of the business and go profit somewhere else not in Cali.
As we know, that is not happening and that is why they are being shut down 1-2 at a time then
comes a total sweep by the Feds. It's coming, no doubt. Very real. Watch and see. I have IBS and
am a mmj patient and I don't have a problem with a sweep, I will just grow my own as I am now or I will
just go get some good varieties of smoke from my friends at their place where I could meet up with new and old friends,
watch football,basketball, UFC etc..., party, good vibes, BBQ, munchies, crank up the tunes, get crazy with the girls, go swimming, fire pits are nice, play some ball,
watch a good movie, pass out for a bit
if I feel like it, smoke some more herb, kick it and not think about closing time. Does a dispensary even begin to compare to the streets?
Not for me! The streets is by very far the best way for me to obtain my smoke with all the fun attached. Do you get all these fun things
from your local pot shop? I don't think so!
What you do get sometimes is swapped weed in jars that are not true to the name and strains, you get lock down going thru locked doors and if a fire
or something breaks out you are screwed cuz the "open the door button to press was burned and does not work". Candy store variety? Easy but not always safe access (but hard to exit), strangers behind and in front of the counter. Whoopie!
Now I know pot shops is the way some get there meds and all is ok but I really feel free, safer and not locked in.

Get new dealers. My OLD WAYS is using my phone to call people that I know that ALWAYS have KILLER dank. The variety comes from week to week, and dealer to dealer. But I have been in this game for nearly 20 years, so I know alot of people. I would prefer to go see one of my friends for my medicine...........all based on history. If the person tries to sell me garbage, I go somewhere else. The ONLY thing I see good about the dispensary is the immediate variety to choose from. Other than that, no cost advantage, you're walking into a location that is on the feds radar all under the false premise that you are legal. You want an idea of how the government profiles us ALL........watch the documentary on NetFlix called RAP SHEET. While the show is about hip-hop police and the rap game, it gives you an insight to what is really going on with our BIG BROTHER. If you think there isn't a dossier on legal growers and dispensaries you should think twice. These are the reasons I jack into other people's wifi, and/or run proxy for this shit. Anonymity is the reason I currently, and ALWAYS will get my meds from people I know personally, and that are low key.

In every business or community the motivation can range from doing it solely for the love (and to help) or for the money (and to take), and I don't see anything wrong with doing it for both, in reason. Some dispensaries are obviously too focused on making money and will take advantage as their position as the middle man. There are many examples of just the opposite though. Just like on this forum, where we all come together and spend our time learning and sharing information with a group of people, and it turns into inconsiderate name-calling and bashing. The OP brought up a good point, and many here share his worry of being taken advantage of, and many people have pointed out where the OP might have overlooked originally. However, I wish that we could do this in a calm and reasoned manner...but like anything else (including dispensaries) there are bad eggs no matter where you are.
