Ok so i already mentioned i was getting 2500 in financial aid in about two weeks. well, my brother and i had a long talk today, and im loaning him 1200 bucks so he can get a car. the bank wouldnt give him the loan, but he needs a car really bad.
his old car went out on him, and now he has to take my dad's car to his work, but the thing is my bro works full time so my dad never gets to use his own car.
he and i agreed on a payment schedule of 100 bucks a month until im paid back.

my mom is gonna flip though, idk how to tell her. any ideas? she's gonna be pissed

well the thing is, my financial aid is a grant, which is basically a scholarship that the govt gives you. and i love my bro very much, he's my twin, and him not having a car affects the whole household where he lives, so i wanted to help my family out

aren't you going to need the money for school, you know, what you got the money for in the first place urca?? i know that you don't have a job or anything to pay for it on your own.. so, say you have this semester paid off, and you're good to go till winter classes start, how are you planning on paying for that once it arrives?? not to mention shit like books, etc??
and nothing against your bro, but what happens if you loan him the money and he tells you to fuck off after?? what then?? or say he starts off paying you the $100 a month, than after two months he get's into a car accident and loses his jobs and is no longer able to pay you back? going to be kind of hard to pay for school at that point..
i'd really think about it.. yah, it's nice to be nice to your bro and all, but sometimes it's better to take care of number one and let others take care of themselve... just my $.02 worth ..... :)

well i get 2500 again in march, and my dad wouldnt let my bro cheat me. even if i gave him 1200, id still have 1300. they immeadiately subtract my tution before i even get the check.

Oh honey. This after you said you wouldn't waste the money. Never ever loan money to a relative. You are in for a big disappointment. I never loan money to relatives. I give it to them. Without expectations that it will be paid back. Because they always let you down. Not deliberately. First it's, "I don't have the money this month so I'll catch up next month." The next month rolls around, more promises. It gets to the point where they start avoiding you. That's why the Bible says, "neither a borrower nor a lender be." It creates heartache and hardship.

If he can get a car for 1200 dollars then he can save it up and buy it with his own money. It might be a small hardship right now but it's only temporary. You can't save the world Urca. What would he have done if you didn't have this money? He would have saved money until he had enough to buy a car. Your dad can take him to work and pick him up if using the car is an issue. There are alternatives. Think really hard about it.

Damn I called this! I even predicted it would be in a loan. Why do people always do this with student grants? It's always a loan. :?

Don't expect to ever see this money again. At least not in full.
