Because of the Sun the Earth is a much higher tempature than it would be if there were no Sun and much warmer than it will be once the Sun burns out.

the sun does heat the earth, because if what your saying is true, if the earth just for some reason started floating off of its orbit into the outer solar system parts such as mars or not even that far, the temperature dramatically. not instantly but i put every dollar i have that everything would start freezing within the first week and everything would die in the first month. all but the microorganisms and such that live sub-surface. the ocean may stay liquid down deep due to the earths core, but without the suns gravity to keep the earths core in a continuous flow, all will cease.
