Hey everyone, i am back. I am short on time atm so the purpose of this thread is to get some input on my build. The room measures 12ftx10ft with an extra 2ftx12ft sliding door closet. There is also a pretty big window in the room.

I am looking for cheap light for veg and a possible way to set up a veg cab in the closet without disturbing the flower room, which will be the room.

Also for the window the plan is to build a box around the window to block the light and allow for me to have two intakes from it. I have searched and searched and cant seem to find a legit tutorial for building a appropriate box artound the window, so if someone has a link please post it.

My setup is x2 600 hps watt cooltubes
x2 6" inline fans
x2 ^" booster fans
1 Big Ass DIY Carbon Scrubber
I also have a 400 watt MH/HPS but i want to trade it for some decent t5s or something for veg.

I will post a pic of how the room is being setup, the design is not the best but it should get the point across. Please help.

Plus rep for anything positive. O yeah im growing soil.bongsmilie

you should post a pic any way i bet you'll get more responses

to light seal it i would use black or panda plastic 6 mil and velcro.

staple gun the plastic up over the area like a curtain and velcro the sides to the wall
or what have you.

Hard to tell from the video but what about taking out the sliding door and just vegging in a small tent. You can even set it into the closet are so it won't take up any more space but solves your light proof problem. T5s are great for vegging. I veg 3-4 plants under 3x55w compact T5s.

panda plastic and a construction site zipper from home depot go a long way is applied right. The tent is another good idea but possibly you can't get a configuration that would fit just right. You could lightproof behind the door and nobody would know any different.Just like moses said.

Theres gonna be fanboys freaking out over this but T5's blow serious ass,i'd just as soon throw the fukin T5's i have out the window as look at them & i have 2 of the top of the line units.

They are completely worthless for budding & for veg they are only a step above standard T12 shop lights from home depot,if your in michigan i'll trade for that dual ballast 400 but keep in mind what i said about them,i'd feel bad but i would trade fast.

I vegged for years using standard T12 shop lights running natural daylight bulbs with kick ass results,i even posted a bunch of pics here on riu using regular shop lights,i used them until i got brainwashed by all the bs about new technology & such, the one & only advantage T5's have over standard shop lights is the wattage of the T5's,a regular T12 bulb is 40 watts & the T5's are 58 watts & thats the only advantage ive found. An 8 bulb T5 unit 4 ft long gives 464 watts.

Go to home depot & buy 6 4ft dual bulb shop light fixtures, cut 2 pcs of 2 x 4 two feet long & lay them flat on the ground, seperate the boards 36 inches, lay the lights on the wood & secure the fixtures with drywall screws, flip the fixtures over after securing them to the wood & put an eye hook in dead center of each end, install 40 watt natural daylight bulbs in the fixtures & you now have a light that equals the top of the line 8 bulb t5 unit at a cost of less than $100. This unit will be 480 watts.
EDIT,plug all 6 lights into a $5 surge protector with an on & off switch for power control & using the light as 1 unit.

The kids on the site will surely protest but trust me on this they suck ass, if you build the light i showed you you'll thank me & save a fat wad to boot.

I own & use many HID HPS & MH fixtures of wattages from 400 to 1,000 watts so i am very aware of the results from all types lighting, the T5's are shiny new toys with slick paint, nothing more.

You wouldn't happen to have a link for the zipper would you? I've searched HD's website and I can't locate it.

While I couldn't find them on HD's website, I did find them on ebay.

Save your cash to stroke out that evo .
thanks man. i really appreciate the info you gave me. I do know T5s are not that great for flower and was pretty sure t12s were almost as good as t5s for veg. The setup you just told me i will be getting, i just cant seem to find the damn fixtures. If you could link me up htat would be great..

And nope not in michigan so sorry. I think the MH would be overkill for my veg closet.. Thanks again man

Sorry but I just don't think this is true. A 48" 40w T12 is going to put out roughly 2,500 lumens on the high end. I'm running 21" 55w T4s that put out almost double that at 4,800 lumens. Yes HPS stomps all over Florescent for flowering, even the T5s, but I love my T5s for vegging. My veg cab is 24"w x 12"d x 36" tall and 3x55w T5s work perfect.

Hey bud,the lights im talking about are simply regular plain ole 4ft long shop light fixtures, every home depot & lowes has them at prices under $10 per unit, they have hundreds in stock every time i go there.

See now your quoting specs & not experience, lumens are not the deciding factor, what is the deciding factor is the lumen output of t12's is more than ample to properly veg our plants, all those extra lumens mean zero unless your vegging 4 ft monsters which none of us are.

You only love the t5's you own because you havent ran them side by side with a t12 system of simular wattage,i loved mine at 1st too until i had a need to set up an extra veg area & broke out the old shop lights & ran em side by side, after seeing exactly how poor t5's compete against regular shop lights in side by side veggings i realized all i loved about them was that they were new, looked cool & were less hassle setting them up & nothing more,i was bummed out by their performance in side by side comparisons.

There used to be another old timer like me named "Mr Fishey" on this site who also vegged with standard shop lights & found the same as i did, dont get me wrong as i am not talking shit about your choice in lights,i too used the extra lumen output as my deciding factor when i dropped over $600 on my 2 t5 units.

I know how to grow & am more than qualifed to judge differences in plants in side by side operations, sadly the added performance promised with t5's simply is not there & ive seen it,i dont post reccomendations using speculation, only things ive tried first hand so this is why i say the added lumens do not tell the whole story.

Hey bud,was lookin at your pics & it looks like your taking your time & doing things right the first time,i like what i see however.......................i know the big however.

However i do question your choice of the cool tube, can you tell what the deciding factor to use a cool tube was,i have several tube & reflector set ups exectly like yours,i found them extremely good at pin point lighting in smaller areas where large hoods with wide light dispersion are not applicable.

I use mine in conjunction with 2 other large 30 x 36 inch reflectors over 4 x 8 ft flood tables, the tube is dead center with large reflectors on each end of the table, the light dispersion area is much smaller with the cool tube this is why i question its choice over larger air cooled reflectors.

yeah i got the tubes because of the old spot i was running, now that i have this room i wish i gad a winged reflector, but i plan to upgrade soon,
