The trouble with that logic is that it assumes that the trolls will confine themselves to that forum. They won't. Their aim is to cause turmoil where it is not welcome.
We know that we aren't going to be able to bash trolls or anyone freely, we aren't that stupid
but we are hoping for a better punishment system instead of infractions or banishments on respected members without truly punishing the source of all the fighting. Yes, older members and newer members should all folllow the rules, but all of us are human and DO get worked up about things, especially when there are people on here that are very passionate about cannabis and what it does for them. Our older and more respected members feel disrespected when trolls come on here trying to give bad information or trying to get people in an uproar just to see them punished. Does it work? Unfortunately yes, all of us have been sucked in by a troll or two, but I can understand why people get so worked up about these people disrespecting the site they have grown accustomed to and been with more many years?
This thread ended up having quite good arguments and disagreements without any real bashing or insults. Hell, even Rj41 and I were having an "argument" without really bashing each other or trying to put each other down. In the end we are trying to get it so that disagreements and arguments can be handled without becoming an online shouting match that turns into a bashfest and has nothing to do with the original intent of whatever thread it is in. Poplars pointed out that a "troll" came into his thread causing problems and everything and he stood up for his own thread, telling the guy to fuck off and whatever. Be it that might not have been the right way to go about it while staying within the ruls, he ended up getting banned while the troll didn't get anything, what kind of shit is that? If we can't defend our own threads from trolls, how do we expect the bickering to stop?
Trolls have been around and they aren't going to go away, but we can hope to see a system get implemented so that we can slow them down and discourage them in more productive ways such as a dislike button or other ideas members have posted without having to risk ourselves from defending ourselves.
