Hey, I have watched a lot of news and I saw that the USA has them on the shore too. I just googled nuclear reactors on the shore and Christian Science Monitor has a story.

I have to admit I like the idea of the ability to generate power but maybe they should be emergency power to like blow up an approaching asteroid with a Laser Beam. Fired up in times of extreme need like a sudden loss of atmosphere and we all have to go to our Emergency Shelters.
All nuke plants are built on the water. They need mass amounts of it in order to keep things running cool. In fact, nearly all power plants are built on the water. It takes a lot of water to keep things cool and generate steam to turn the turbines. What needs to happen is they need to make sure a tsunami, or any natural disaster for that matter, won't damage vital equipment. You can never forsee all potential problems but some things are common sense, like not putting backup generators in a basement of a plant built on the water in one of the most earthquake prone countries on the planet.:dunce:

If you're into what you're doing and enjoy it for the purity and good will, it's definitely a compliment. :)
Indeed I am, and do. Thank you. ;-) I'm not getting paid for this. My heart aches whenever things like this happen, regardless of who it happens to. I just wish I could do more.

But you were made a joke of as well as the Peace Corps and the likes. ;) Funny scene. The whole 'inner-beauty' bit was played for some good laughs. In Shallow Hal, you'd look like Brad Pitt or something. xD

lmfao!!!!!!! I love self deprecating humor! In that spirit, I believe I would be more akin to Edward James Olmos than Brad Pitt.;-)

In one measure it is reported radiation levels are Ten Million times the normal level.
Exactly what is 10,000,000 times normal isn't being made clear but workers at the plant have been evacuated.

I would buy you a dos equis = good stuff your doing, wheres some pix?
Thank you my friend. I won't be posting any pics. Sorry. I'm a professional photographer and I told myself before I came over that I didn't want to profit off of this disaster. If I post pics, someone else could profit and I don't want that either. I may post a few pics at a later date, but the organization I'm working with doesn't allow us to shoot pics inside the aid center. Privacy concerns and all that. I'm taking the day off tomorrow and I hope to be able to get close enough to the Dai-ichi plant to shoot a few pics but I doubt that will happen. They are serious about keeping people away. :fire:

OK. Let me requote.

LOL.....Wut?
These pics aren't copyrighted. If I copyrighted them, then it would be easy to figure out my true identity. I'm not ready for that. If I post them without a copyright, then someone could upload them, copyright them and pass them off as their own work. There wouldn't be much I could do if that happened. The laws regarding intellectual property rights are pretty murky. :cuss:

I'm confused, I thought you were a Doctor, Dam internet, things are never as they seem. I wasn't trying to call you on pix and respect your reason for not wanting to exploit the situation and I definatly wasn't looking for pix of injured people and bodies, I was just seeing if you were posting landscape stuff from your on the ground location in any other threads or something. Anyways I won't waste your time, you have more important things to do than read my ramblings.
Do you know of any groups taking volenteers to japan from the U.S.? people would like to help clean up and rebuild but travel costs are prohibitive for some.

lol! No, I was a corpsman (medic) in the Marine Corps. When I got out, I went into the fire service for 15 years as a firefighter/paramedic. I am an amateur gynecologist though.;-) I may post some "touristy" type pics when I get back. I can check around and get back to you on the clean up thing. I'm sure there are groups around who would love to have more volunteers. This is going to take a LONG time to rebuild.

Well the 10 million x above normal radiation reading, apparently they read the meter wrong... I smell bs, and if it's not bs, then that smell is certaily replaced with a bit of worry as to why on earth these people are running the show, they seem to be a touch incompetent.
