For growing plants do I need 2 sets of lights ? One for growth and one for flowering? I really don't want to be changing lights unless I have to!

I see different ones for sale with the varying amounts of Red and Blue lights

Yes you need 2 different bubls, you need MH for veg and an HPS for flowering

I agree. but see what you can do :) trail and error. Look on ebay mh, hps bulbs, digital ballast cool tube hood less then two hundred. a tent($150) .carbon filter and fan:) then you can dry it in there too. I am going to follow you to see where this goes. :):):):):):):)

lots of people grow using only HPS. A number of peeps use MH all the way through. Grow one cycle just with hps and add the mh later. It's really not necessary.

This. I vegged many crops under an HPS before I got my setup fine tuned. I'd recommend the Hortilux enhanced blue super HPS if you go that route, it will work well for both veg and flower.

I've always used Sunmaster enhanced spectrum HPS. They also work quite well through the entire grow.

when i started growing i had a hydroponic system and it wasn't working very well for me. i would get issue after issue with that shit just like how you are having. so i said 'fuck it i'm going with soil'. it's just my opinion, but i think if you're going to start growing for the first time, you should consider starting with soil first. it's way easier to manage, just water everyday with 16oz of tab water along with your nutes and you'll get amazing results. maybe you should just try growing at least one plant first in soil and see what you get. for me, it's too much to deal with when you are using hydroponics.

Thanks for your input, but I am quite happy with hydro now I have most of it figured out. It was really a PH issue for the most part.

You have to understand what is causing the pH issue. It almost never (never probably) happens in veg because in veg your N-P-K is low in P-K. During flower your nute N-P-K has much higher P-K.

Now when your plants feed, they do not use that much of the nutes (maybe 15%), so if you are recycling, you are reintroducing high levels of P-K into nutrients that are already high in P-K. Can you see why pH becomes an issue by say the third week of recirculating, and why nutrient lock up becomes an issue? And yet people continue to follow others committing the same basic mistake because they simply do not know what they are doing, but go full speed into it.

Next time, I think we will grow 2 clones from the clone of the healthiest plant so far (#4) and focus on those 2 harder with a better nute layout, we could probably yield more than we will now with 4. Obviously, thats also without having all the problems we had this time. Not sure, we have had a lot of ideas. Will be posting pictures as soon as I can, on my way to work in 20 minutes.

hydro is good for larger productions. but, i do agree with the thought that soil grown tastes and smells better. in my opinion.
looking forward to more pictures. happy growing. i still love that serpent pictured in your avatar.

Yeah, EBB i would say fuck it... I would start easy with DWC (Deep water Culture) Its A LOT better!!!! EBB is VERY hard to regulate you PPM and PH. DWC I wish i had listen to every one sooner, It gets GREAT results good roots and everything goes very well, You need some good air pumps, some good air stones and nutes, And you will be VERY happy!
