lemme finish this from beginning to end as it may be a couple posts,,before you post plz

The Box
alright,,let's start with the box,,it's 6 foot high, and 2 feet by 2 feet square,,it has quarter inch finished plywood for sides and door(very light),,top and bottom are 1 inch plywood,,with a 1 inch plywood lip around top and bottom,,and I used quarter round molding inside the back top and bottom to hold my reflective material in place and keep all the back and upper/lower sides together,,a square 2 by 4 frame in the front for rigidity and door support,,I used barn style hinges for the door because they are longer and offer more support for the door,,it has thick foam insulation strips around the door frame,,so air and light tightness are insured,,HoLE on there's more

The Cool Tube

This is a 430 watt Son T Agro hps bulb,,sandwiched between a couple of 4 inch pvc plumbers fittings(one elbow,,and one open ended adapter) inside a Bake a Round Bread Tube I got on-line at She-Bay(where my hunny shops),,a little of the foam insulation is double wrapped and adhered to the tube for air tightedness and fits snugly into each plumber fitting end,,a few screws, hooks and drilling and it's hanging,,feed the wire to the ballast through a pre-drilled HoLE in the top,,and re-connect to the ballast(if ya took it apart,,remember how to put it back ,,write it down,,what wire to what wire,,don't forget the ground)

Air in and Out

in the bottom of this box I cut a square HoLE 7 inches by 9 inches,,and put Overhead Stove Range Carbon Filters on the inside and on the outside,,and screwed them to each other through the wood over that cutout for fresh clean air in,,atop this beast I cut a 4 inch HoLE with a jigsaw for a 4 inch to 6 inch heating and A/C adapter to fit snugly where the 4 inch flexi tubing connects the tube to the adapter,,,on the outside,,I have a 495 cfm Carrier Total-Line Exhaust fan that sits perfectly into the adapter,,I attached a Variable Control Switch to the fan,,cuz full blast,,it suks the tube to the wall,,lol,,and does not need full force to cool the tube,,,,AND move the plants:mrgreen:,,,,bonus,,one less fan inside

so here's what I got,,I'm gonna let it run a cycle of 12 hours,,and check temps,,and see where I need to set the fan speed,,to aquire the right inside conditions,,I hope this helps anyone thinking of something like this,,and if I missed something,,or you need more details on a part of this build,,plz feel free to ask away,,I have some more pics,,but could easily help a fellow member out,,if required,,,all comments welcome

how loud is it? and are u vegging under 12/12 also?
it was pretty loud on full speed,,and powerful,,that's why I got the control switch,,on half it's pretty quiet,,but I am gonna soundproof the fan with some insulation,,and am considering a good 6 inch odour sock for down the road which will attach to the fan on the outside,,and definately deaden the sound a bit,,stealth is not really an issue on the top floor of a small building where everybody keeps to themselves,,oh,,you can't veg under 12/12 ;-)),,but this is a 430 watt son agro,,the extra 30 watts are blue spectrum for veg,,I'm just gonna try it for 12 hours to check the temps and humidity

Yes of course you could veg 12/12, but why would anyone want to? The plant would be much smaller. Unless of course you want your plant to be small, hum, I suppose maybe I can see your point.

sick setup man im gettin ready to put 2 x 400W hps's in a homemade cool tube i got 2 bake-a-rounds on the way lol im basically prolly gonna go with the same setup u got just twice as long....vent from outside to outside to maintain the smell.... im doing a garage setup in a big tool box with a window a/c unit goin in that bitch and 800W.....

question is: do you think having a 80mm 32cfm computer fan as a intake into the tube and one as an exhaust gonna be sufficient for the tube? remember i got an window a/c unit in there so that should keep temps in the 70-80's i hope,, bt its in my garage in florida so its gonna get like 95-100 deg in a few months

HoLE you beat me to it! *lol* im glad you did cuz im gonna DEE-BO your good idea of using the overhead range carbon filter, brilliant. Also im 100% sure you saved around 1200 dollars on your homemade setup compared to the 2000 dollars sunlightsheds charges and prolly had some fun constructing the box too! Anyway i just wanted to give u props because me and my dad are gonna try and do something similar to this very soon. Much Love

spend the money on a good fan,,it will pay for itself the first day it gets over 80 degrees outside,,this fan I have is over-kill,,if your gonna vent 2 lights with it,,get at least a 300 cfm in-line,,why mess around and let your grow strain it's way through the heat

I'm looking for a cheaper way to keep my grow closet cool.
I have a 400wMH bulb and reflector, ballast is kept out of the closet so that helps some.
Temps range from 65F at night to 90F during some warm days.
Its only getting hotter as it turns to summer and I need to find a way to cool it now.

I love the pyrex round bread thing and some ducting, but the way to get the air in and out is the problem. Don't really want to get a large fan, not only b/c of the initave cost but for the cost of running it too.

Any help. I can get pics if you'd like.
