ok..i was watching Alaskan State Troopers last nite its a new series...so this episode they got tiped off on a man who is growing has a 'growhouse'. ok They the cops didnt have any evidence well enogh to get a search warrent...so they did this 'Knock and Talk' is what they called it..ok they went to the mans house knocked on his door to talk to him the man came to door and then steped outside..the troopers said tghis.." theres 2 ways we can do this", "were here for your plants man".the guy said what plants..they said it again and asked how many he had ..he said depends..then the man wouldnt let them come inside to get them or search without a warrent.BUT heres the kicker...They under suspision alone and the guy toted that he may have them. the cops wouldnt let him back inside.they 'secured' the location,and waited foer a judge to sign the search warrent...another thing was the man was venting the hot grow room air out his house! its in alska so its cold winter..the grow air had left frozen formations all over where he had vented it...

LESSON FOR TODAY! DONT VENT GROW ROOM AIR OUTA YOUR HOUSE ON THE OUTSIDE DURING FREEZING OR WINTER TEMPS!

AND IF YOU GET A KNOCK AND TALK DO NOT! REPEAT DO NOT STEP OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR!

Bravo, the most elementary thing people should know. Don't open the door to the cops unless he has a warrant, in shich case there is no need to open the door as they'll have kicked it in :D

I'd love to know how a guy refusing entry increased suspicion to such an extent that a warrant was issued. His actions did not give them proof of anything whatsoever, if they were unable to obtain a warrant in the first instance, someone telling them they may not enter does not give evidence for a warrant in the second instance. Loittle confused, unless they specifically stated we are here for amrijuana plants, and then he stated that depends.

Funny thing is -- I was just reading another post called something like, Stop hating on cops -- ( If cops keep doing stupid shit like this, then there will always be many people "hating" )

How is this the cop doing a stupid thing? They are doing their job and hell, if they can talk their way into your house then they've done well! It's just the stupid morons out in suburbia who have no clue as to what rights they hold that are the issue. We should be hating on the fools, not the police.

i would not vent the heat directly out the side of your house no matter what the weather is like. that venting heat is what the flir detects and what law enforcement look for. a better idea would be to vent into a crawl space under the house to help spread the heat. google videos for flir, barry cooper talks all about it in never get busted. these videos are a must see for everyone.

lol.. Dumbass Alaskan.. The cops aren't the brightest up there either. I've lived there before. Also, electricity is like $.20/kw and I believe it gets more expensive the more power is used... Pretty costly to grow.

plenty police officers take the piss while doing their jobs.they treat you with no respect and think they are superior to you,and that you should show them respect regardless.some police officers are ok tho.but most police officers who have interferred in my life,i didnt like.

I'm with resinousflowers cops will take advantage of your rights if you don't exercise them, it's like paying your telephone bill just because you didnt get your bill for the month of January doesn't mean you don't have to pay for the month of January, you are expected to go ahead and pay and saying you didn't get the bill wont fly in the court of law, so why is it those dirty thieving bastards are able to outright ignore human rights and you can't even so much as give them a slap on the wrist unless you have 6 witnesses to testify against them, 6! this is the case in ontario and it's disgusting, i personally have been arrested for stepping foot outside my car when i told the officer it was my right to he proceeded to shove me back in my car slam the door on me then arrested me because i told him to stop being a cunt and abusing peoples rights. i got taken down to the cop shop held for 3 hours when i finally got let out and when i tried to make a formal complaint to the police station they laughed at me and told me to get the hell out, stop sticking up for cops they are stupid piece of shit who need someone to moniter them everything else on the face of the earth has internal affairs except cops, kull the fuckers

I think the OP is way off.... I'm not going to stand in my door way and talk to cops, period. I'll step out and lock the door behind me. If I stand there with my door open, one of them mother fuckers is going to claim that they smell weed growing, or they'll make up some other excuse to ask if they can look inside 'just to make sure you guys are OK in there' or some other BS reason. If I am outdoors with a locked house, those cops ain't getting inside unless they kick it down. That will leave evidence that I did not consent to a search of my home.

Think about this, if cops come to your door to knock and talk, and they get upset that you stepped out and locked your door, remind them you always lock your door when you step out and then get them back to the business of why they knocked on your door in the first place. If you are a smart grower, the cops are there looking for possible witnesses to a scratched car or a bicycle that may have been stolen out of your neighbor's garage.

If the cops are there to talk to you, shame on you, you attracted attention; however there is no need to panic. Just deny any accusations and ask for a warrant if they ask to come inside. Hell, tell them your Daddy and his daddy died fighting for your rights and you therefore never waive them. Tell them anything, just get them off your porch. If they begin to repeat questions or accusations, just tell them that unless you are under arrest, you have better things to do and they should be on their way.

BE CAREFUL; cops do not like individuals that know and exercise their bill of rights. Always be courteous with the officer(s). Never become emotional or angry. Keep your hands out of your pockets and at your sides; crossing your arms in front of you looks defensive and could send the wrong signal to the cops. The bottom line is, you don't want them to escalate the interaction. They may even try to get you to lose it, just so they can make an arrest.

You have the right to be silent.... Use it...

Utilizing that extra heat is ideal for sure! I literally offset the electricity cost of a 400w HPS by saving that much in gas I would have used for heat.

In summer I'd think venting down a sewer, under a house, or even up through the roof would be better. Or just getting a separate window mounted A/C unit for $1-200 would work fine. They just recirculate the air in the room and vent heat out the back of the unit.

It just sucks that people have to be sketched over such a helpful benign plant anyway. =(
