Lucki's First Grow Journal

Greetings my fellow growers/smokers. This is my first grow actually done right and with advice of people that know what they are talking about. I converted 4' X 2' of my closet into my grow room I have 2 4' cool whites, 2 2' cool whites, and a 60w cool white cfl as my lighting, I have a 6" fan and am using FFOF soil with 20% perlite on the bottom for drainage. I have 8 seedlings so far 3 are bagseed, and 5 are a mix of purple kush, and sour diesel that I got from my buddy. I am going to go with FF neuts as I was advised to do. So here goes....

1/4/11 Seeds put into germ
1/8/11 Seeds sprouted, put into rockwool cubes and domed
1/11/11 Seedlings put into FFOF/perlite mix and watered with filtered water
1/15/11 Babies watered with 50% big bloom mix

Any questions, comments, and most importantly suggestions or advice please feel free. I am a n00b and am trying to learn everything there is to know.

Do you got the CFLs with in 2 inches of the plants top, they apear to be streatching for light.

yes they are very close to the light about 2". 3 of them may look that way because I think I left them in the dome for too long.

Yeah they will stretch if you leave em in the dome for too long . As soon as they sprout the dome can go .They don't need high humidity after sprouting . You just kinda want to slowly introduce them to the open air then ditch the dome .

Other than that looks like your off to a good start ! +rep

What is the best time to put the lights on at this time? 24/0 or 18/6. Any suggestions on what works best for you would be a great help. I have them on 24/0 now

Thanx kingofqueen +REP for all your help. When do they get transplanted during veg or flowering? And any advice on the foliar feeding? Im researching it now

On my way to home depot to get some cfl's I think I can make it brighter any suggestions on how many and what size?? Anybody its about 4' X 1 1/5 - 2' X about 5' in height with 8 plants in there. I have (1) 40w - 60w cfl cant remember right now, (2) 20w 4' cool white lights and (2) 34w cool whites.

Updating my journal: 1-19-11 Checked the plants today after adding more light last night. What a BIG difference they are really looking good. Three of my girls have a little neut burn so I'll just give em just filtered water. I'll post some pics later on when the kids go to sleep.

Feel free to comment Alicia, Lacy, Keri all have a little neut burn so ill just give them some plain water for now which is actually the feeding there on and ill have to go to a 1/3rd neuts instead of half i guess.

Had a little bit of sunshine here today so took my two smallest ones and put em in the window for a little sun. And definitely have to cut the neuts back, Lacy's burn got a little worse since yesterday, but she still is the biggest by far.

I like the results im getting from these cfl's think im going to stick wit em all the way through. Some things I was reading was that cool whites were what you go with in the veg stage (I know not to ever listen to them again) since I switched to daylight and soft white I can see progress everyday. So the hell with buying a hps/mh setup right now im just going to add about 6 cfl's this week (since they are on sale at menards) hey it can only be a good thing. I've also noticed that the cfl's @ home depot only go as high as 5000k, menards is the only store with cfl's at 6500k. I need to change out the cool white tubes I have and I think I will go with (1)daylight 6500k and (1) full spectrum 5000k in each of the 2 reflectors I have which will give me a total of (12) daylight cfl's (2) 2' daylight/full spectrum floro tube, and (2) 4' daylight/full spectrum on 8 plants I think that should be more than enough veg light. I already bought 16 2700k cfl's for when I get to flowering. Two week pics will be coming tomorrow. They got a big bloom watering today, and are looking nice and healthy with the exception of 2 one had a light fall on her and the other one is just sick with brown spots and drooping. This is the last week on just big bloom they go to big bloom/grow big neut next week. All of this is again my plan in theory for my lights anybody that can add 2 cents and improve my grow please do, other than that all things are pointing to success so far

Anybody familiar with the FF neut system?? is it absolutely necessary to use open sesame, beastie bloomz, and cha ching I have GB, BB, and TB i'm just wondering if the results with those three are definately worth it because it expensive for the little amount that I would use

I tried to find a study done under strict testing means regarding light schedules for vegging but cant find the fooking thing now, anyway the study showed that there was only a 15% increase in growth under 18/6 vs. 14/10. 20/4 and 24/0 became obsolete as they were too energy consuming. The 14/10 was by far the most efficient if taking the amount of growth vs. energy consumption into account. I employ this and am very happy with moms progress at producing clones every fortnight as well as the resulting clones.

so newworld you suggest 14/10 for veg and then 12/12. I would love to read that study if you can find it please send me the link
