phobia in this sense is just a suffix in a larger word and it has many definitions, some scientific, some common use. using that logic the word crime "watchdog" is invalid because it describes a person and not a dog. i am not going to argue linguistics with you. but since you seem so keen on looking things up, may i direct your studies to freudian defense mechanisms? you may be particularly interested in "projection"
