T-5 mini closet grow, AN organic nutes, multiple strains

This is our second grow journal. Got bored waiting for seedlings to come along so I decided to try a closet grow with only T-5 CFL lights. I was actually trying to track down a certain strain and the cloner would only sell 10 plants at a time, so I ended up with 8 extra plants, so here we are. I'm going to give these clones 1 - 2 weeks to establish a root system and as soon as they start to put on vertical height I'm taking them right to flower.

I have a 6 light T-5 light system with (6) 6500K lights, a total of 39,000 lumens.

I'll be growing in Roots 707 soil in three gallon pots using the full line of Advanced Nutrients Organic line.

The strains that we're running are:
Hashberry
G-13 (x2)
Ice (x2)
Candy Purple
Cherry Bomb
Nebula

I may try some non-organic stuff on the second of the pairs just to see what happens. I like playing with chemicals....:-o

This is the feeding program that we are using for the first part of the veg phase:

Week 1 of Veg formula
2 ml/L Iguana Juice Grow from AN
2 ml/L Hygrozyme (I actually feed Hygrozyme during my water only day)
1 ml/L Organic B from AN
1 ml/L CalMag from Botanicare
1 ml/L Fulvic Acid (FlavorFul from Humboldt)
1 ml/L H-2 from AN
1 ml/L VooDoo Juice
1 ml/L CarboLoad
1/8 tsp/L Piranha
1/8 tsp/L Tarantula

For those watching my other grow, this is the same recipe as that Veg week 1. Saves me some time if I just mix three gallons at the same time.

Let me start by saying that I know that everyone else has a different opinion. Before the :fire:flames:fire: start, just understand that I'm trying to help teach and showcase a little of what I am doing. If you're interested in my operation, please feel free to comment and we can discuss. If you just want to tell me how I'm over doing it, or you're plan is better, or you just this or that, please post it in your grow journal and we'll discuss it there. I want this to be about learning and open discussion with interested hobbyists. Thanks :leaf:

So here is my rationing in terms of nutes I am feeding.

Base additives
So before I even start adding anything in, I add in CalMag+. This is because I'm using RO water and this process removes a lot of the minerals needed by plants. In past grows I started having major deficiencies. Plus, I was growing in coco coir which already has calcium and magnesium issues to my understanding.

If this is a water only day, I add HygroZyme. Enzymes do a world of beneficial things for your roots and are good as part of your watering routine to clean up dead rooting materials, decompose waste to food, etc.

Base nutrients
In this stage, I am using Iguana Juice. This is AN's organic nutrients and I want to try and stay as free from chemicals as is practical. I have used Sensi A and B and their three part before, so this is my first time with their organic mix. In future grows I'll pit organic against non-organic on the same clones and see if there really is a difference.

Beneficial Additives
VoodJuice, CarboLoad, Piranha, and Tarantula are all designed to work together to provide a very strong group of beneficial microbes that will live in the soil, promote root development, strengthen the plant, etc. These will only be used in the first two weeks of veg and flower to help develop a strong root system and keep the plant healthy while it's forming it's structure. The CarboLoad is a healthy food supply for these microbes and also helps the plant.

Other additives
Fulvic and Humic acids are important for their ability to help the plant use the available nutrients much more efficiently and thoroughly, while B vitamins are some of the most important vitamins for our plants. These will be included in nearly every feeding except for the 2 week transition to flower stage in which the idea is to stress the plants enough to induce flowering, and cutting off their vitamins and forcing the plant to make it's own is a very good way (from what I've read) to slow the stretch a little since the plant has to use it's energy internally as opposed to putting it towards vertical growth.

Hope this helps someone!

So I've had a few issues start to pop up and if anyone has some thoughts I would appreciate them.

Cherry Bomb - Nutrient Deficiency, maybe Magnesium?
This is my Cherry Bomb clone. At first I thought it was an NPK deficiency, but I've read that the leaf tips curling up like that means it's magnesium.

Quick update, I have pushed the feeding program to 100% of the manufacturers suggested to see if this fixes the nutrient deficiency I seem to be having. 75% wasn't quite doing it, and they seem OK so far, maybe the organic nutes aren't as hot as the two-part. Other than that, very little has happened as I'm sure they are still trying to establish roots. Clones are at a disadvantage because of the lack of roots but the abundance of leaves. This should correct itself as the roots establish. This is the second week of veg so after this week I'm just hitting them with base nutrients and vitamins. I have my new T-5 (3000K) bulbs in and will be flipping to flower hopefully in the next week or so. I'm starting with 2 of the bulbs being changed out, then during week 3 will replace one or two more. I don't want to drop too many lumens all at once but I want to be sure to get the right light on them at the right time.

Here is the new menu:
4 ml/L Iguana Juice Grow from AN
2 ml/L Hygrozyme (I actually feed Hygrozyme during my water only day)
2 ml/L Organic B from AN
2 ml/L CalMag from Botanicare
2 ml/L Fulvic Acid (FlavorFul from Humboldt)
2 ml/L H-2 from AN
2 ml/L VooDoo Juice
1 ml/L CarboLoad
1/8 tsp/L Piranha
1/8 tsp/L Tarantula

Yes, I have some new 3000K T-5 lights that I'll be replacing #2 and #4 with, so I'll have 6000K, 3000K, 6000K, 6000K, 3000K, 6000K. I was going to wait until they start to grow and after looking at a picture from a week ago, they've started to put on some height, so I'll be flipping them in the next day or so over to 12/12. I just need to finish my other grow room which I should be doing tonight. This will keep them nice and small, hopefully less than 18" after the stretch.

So these plants have had 2 weeks to establish their roots in veg phase and are now flowering. I have replaced 4 of my 6500K lights with 3000K grow lights, and set my timers to 12/12. I have also adjusted my feeding to a program more suitable for flowering.

Flowering Menu

4 mL/L Iguana Juice Bloom
2 mL/L CalMag+
2 mL/L HygroZyme
2 mL/L VooDoo Juice
2 mL/L Humic Acid
2 mL/L Fulvic Acid
1 mL/L CarboLoad
1/8 tsp Piranha
1/8 tsp Tarantula

(Note: B vitamin has been removed to further stress the plant and try and avoid stretch)

Mad Scientist Menu
The half of the paired clones that I have (Ice #2, G13 #2) will receive the full line of AN nutrients to see if there is a difference. I will be using the same menu as above with the addition of the following:

2 mL/L Bud Ignitor
2 mL/L Bud Candy
2 mL/L Bud Factor X

BushMaster

Also, I have noted that two of the clones, Cherry Bomb (From Reeferman I think) and Candy Purple are very stretchy, lanky strains, so I've topped them and hit them both with 1 mL/L of BushMaster from Humboldt County as a foliar. I hope that this will work and keep it small, but we'll see.

So after two weeks of transition, the ladies are now ready to start packing on some weight. I am amazed and how well they seem to be doing under T-5's. They had almost zero stretch, very healthy looking leaves and flowers, and overall I am very happy with the results so far. If I can pull 1/2 oz per plant of dried product this may actually be a new purpose for my little closet area.

I have now removed the root area beneficial's and am now concentrating on flower development. Still sticking with the organic line of AN, and still doing my mad scientist stuff on the matching pairs. Just wanted to get some pics up.

When you view the pics, it goes plant, close up, plant close up, so you can see the detail of the plant.

Isnt a half oz per plant ridiculously low? On all the seed orders ive been looking at it always says like 400-700g yield per plant

Usually those numbers are for perfect conditions and outdoor, where you have 7 - 10 ft tall plants. Mine are in a 2 x 4 closet and stand 1 ft. tall. I WISH I could pull that much, and in a SOG or SCROG, I think I could pull quite a bit, but usually indoor growers base their yields and the success of their grows per watt or per light. You'll hear people say things like "I pulled a pound per light" or "I got a gram per watt". In my other grows where I use a 5 x 5 tent and 1000W HPS, I expect to pull about 1 lb per light with 9 plants, but I hopoe for more.

Also, look at the yield and make sure they're not saying 400 - 700 /ft(2). This is based on you packing in plants, I prefer to focus on less plants, more attention to detail, and better quality buds. I've grown in large operations before and while you certianly make more money, I think the quality suffers if you don't have the time to really look at every plant, manicure it, look for disease, bugs, etc.

If this were a production grow, I wouldn't be messing with CFL's. I just wanted to see if it would work and what kind of yield I can get. If I can pull 1/4lb off 6 T-5 lights running at 250 watts, I'll be pretty happy. Less space, no heat, no stretch, and low power. If people like what they see, maybe I can help them understand how to get the same type of quality without having to drop a lot of money on room setup. More money to spend on expensive nutes like Advanced!! :-) (By the way, in my other grow journal, I am growing with NO nutrients, just water. I may run an experiment in the future where I use no nutrients and CFL lights and see what I can achieve with almost no money aside from the soil costs.

Hope this helps and you stay tuned. Think of it more like an art project. Sure, I could bust out the power tools, but there is something to be said for high quality, hand made weed that someone took the time to make sure is nearly perfect.

Lol I'm doing the same grow with bagseed and led's. It's nice to see someone elses plants that are in the same stature of grow as mine but with white lights. Mine are at week four.

I am growing with a mixture of T8HO and T5HO tubes. I have 8 T8HO and 4 T5HO, 12 total tubes in a 4'x2' grow space. My plants are 4 weeks into flower and they look just like yours in terms of flower. I do not have a nice camera so that is kind of a bummer. The reason I went with the tubes is because I was able to spend the money over time.

My plants already make me feel like it was worth it.

But I just wanted to say I enjoy the work your doing. I was looking for complete tube grows before I started mine. I will be around to see your grows.
