hey wats up... got a little late start this year planting, as well as startin this thread. but i figure never late than never. ok heres the story i threw about 5 plants in the ground and the weather turned bad so i was holdin off on plantin the other 40. while i was hardening them out my dog got off of his chain and proceeded to anihilate every single plant. so i rushed to the local dispensary and bought a tray and began the process over. when it was all said and done i had the last one in the ground on july 7.
ive been foliar feeding with ff grow big (not too satisfied might i add), last year my plants seemed to grow much quicker when i was using age old organics grow. but anyways along wit that im also foliar feedin with ff big bloom and spray-n-grow. i feed once a week for all three of them, i do the grow big and big bloom together and the spray-n-grow i feed by itself the next day. for flowering i will switch from grow big to bills perfect fertilizer on half of them and age old organics bloom for the other half. all will continue to get spray-n-grow and big bloom. i also treated them with voodoo juice for the first two weeks of veg and will be applying it again here once they all start budding. i put some burlap shade cloth up to try and keep the temp down cuz it was gettin over 100 for awhile but now its startin to cool down. once the daytime temps stop goin over 85 i will take it down. but ya im gonna stop ramblin now but any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

oh and ill post the url to the video here within the hour... it was goin to take forever to upload it to youtube so i had to convert it to a lil lower quality and now it says another 25 minutes until its done uploading. which is much better than the 123 minute estimate on the original file type.

I'm not in South Sac but I'll give you a hint. I buy most of my garden stuff at Capitol Nursery on Elk Grove Blvd.

I don't want to seem hypercritical, because your garden looks great.

BUT

Think about this. Most Cannabis comes from places that experience extreme heat, and low humidity. I regularly see temperatures over 120 degrees in my greenhouses and, you know how hot it gets in the Valley. I don't EVER shade anything, because with adequate water and mulching to keep soil temperatures down, there is no need. In this valley, mulching is a big help. Lumens = bud. Lose the shade.

I'm not a big fan of nutes designed specifically for Cannabis. Mostly it's just a way to get more of your money. Read the nutrient labels, and shop around for the ingredients in bulk.

I grew up in the Delta, and know what that South Sac soil can do. I once got lost in a field of 12 foot tall mustard, in the Pocket. You may have six footers, at harvest.

JMHOs.

You don't have to worry about the shade cloth. My plants are just fine in the direct sun for most of the day and I live relatively close to you.

I'm local as well, my 2nd grow too, and mine are monsters!

There is a load of good info here...VG gives great advice, and he's local as well, and knows the climate.

Don't worry about the heat, as long as you stay up on the water needs, all will be well. I use a big fan out in the yard when it gets super hot.

Your plants look great......subbed!

Are you adding Magnesium(epsom salts) as well?

For blooming, look for a mix that is lower in Nitrogen and higher in Phosphorus and Pottasium. I shoot for roughly a 1-4-3 ratio. This might look like 5-20-15 or some other rough multiple.

Adding Ironite will take care of your micronutrient needs.

thanks for all the replies i appreciate it. and thanks on your input about the shade cloth. last year i didnt use it and my bud turned out great. the only reason i tried it this year is because i heard plants do better with diffused light. i am running a side by side. i have two blue dreams one that gets shade almost all day and the other is in the direct sun. they are the same height as of now so not much difference. but isnt it true that u can get tighter nugs if u keep the humidity and heat down? and no i havent added any epsom salt but that reminds me so thank you. i normally do just because most fertlizers dont have a lot in it. and for blooming im using a 6-11-5 on half and 5-10-5 on the other half. gonna see what works better. but once again thanks for the replies and i will keep posting updates as i go along. i wont waste time wit pictures every day but i will try to get a vid up at least once a week and pictures the same. so stay tuned to see how this baby garden turns out!!!

oh ya another question... a couple of my plants are a little pale so i stepped up the fertilizer on those ones to root feedin wit every other water plus my weekly foliar feed, im using grow big. and they are still pale, anyone know why maybe or wat i can do to fix this problem? this is why i am not too fond of this grow big. its my first time usin it and i never had this problem before. any other time i got a pale plant i foliar feed and by the next day i can tell the difference. so im a little stumped...

If your pH is off you might be locking out nutrient absorption, resulting in too little nitrogen pickup.

my pH is at 6.6 on most of them and on a couple where i used some different dirt they're 6.3... somebody told me i might need to add some sort of sugar to my water, ever heard of that? i never heard of a lack of sugar causing plants to turn pale... but i havent heard much of anything about sugar to be honest. i dont know tho ill have to check my pH again tomorrow but it was good about a week ago when i last checked it. one thing i havent been checkin is the pH of my hose water. if the pH reading from the soil is fine do i even need to worry about pHing my water and nutrient solution?

Nitrogen! I'm having the same issue. Must be something in the water here on the SouthSide, rep'n 916!

Peace

Are those two plants the same strain? Different than the others?

Some strains just look yellower than others, but Nitrogen is usually the issue, otherwise.

i got a couple different strains that are a little pale. i guess ill just increase the nitrogen and hope i dont burn em up at all. but ya my friend who is also growin here in the south said hes having the same thing happen as well. i think ill head down to the hydro store today and pick up a pH kit and if the pH of the water is good then ill increase the nitrogen.

well its been awhile for an update so lets see... everything seems to be going good. im not too fond of trimming up a bunch of popcorn nugs come harvest time so i trimmed up all the stalks on the bottoms 4 inches or so on each plant. i dont like to waste so i decided to clone them. i pulled about 100 clones yesterday and will be grabbing another 100 on saturday. i will post pictures and another video as soon as my step mom gets back in town with my camera. also i will be removing my shade cloth next weeks as well since the temperatures are dropping and i dont see much need for it after this weekend. also i picked up a pH test kit and my hose water seems to be just fine so i switched up my fertilizer and began feeding at twice the recommended dosage on the plants that were a little pale and they darkened up right away. that sealed the deal on grow big for me, will never use it again. anybody else dissatisfied with grow big and other fox farm products? i think they are highly overrated. i get better results for less than half the price with my current fertilizers.
