I have just received a T5 Flourescent light system for free and want to know if it was worth using it to grow a little. It has 424" bulbs which are 6500k cool bulbs. could i even get it to bud? if so how well? plus any other tips would be great.

YES YES YES..

T5's are great.. The key, is to keep them very close t your foliage.. less than 1 inch...

: )
cheers

this is my first grow and i bought t5's because i have a small space and don't think i could handle the heat of a MH light and since my height it limited i figured i could get a lot closer with the T5's. Does anybody have a comparison of yeild between a MH light versus a T5? I've skulked around and haven't heard of many people using T5's through bloom.

Thanks for the tip to keep them under an inch. I've been doing 3 inches so i'll definately move them. I'm in week two bloom and i thought i'd be a little further along. I hope moving the lights closer will help.

If anybody has used T5's through bloom, please comment

Hey, I am not sure about the one inch deal, I always heard keep em away 2 inches, also, your lights are vegging bulbs, you need to get some flowering bulbs too.

Yeah you will need flowering and bloom bulbs. I use the Sunleaves Pioneer VIII T5's.
From the veteran at the local indoor garden supply store "The only major difference between HID & T5s of comparable wattage is that the T5 has a maximum efficiency range of three feet". I have a 1000w equivalent that spreads about 3500 Lumens per square feet. My canopy is 10 sq.ft. I keep the T5 very close to the plants.

It's all about the lumens/sq.ft

my htg fixture broke after a month so they sent me a new ballast to wire in. I broke that lol. I was an electrician. the connectors those ballasts use are a bitch. very irritating. they declined further response. caveat emptor on that.

i have a small space too and my metal halide is quite big for it n m sure it will fry the plants..m thinking of getting T5 in there but i seriously hope it does not affect the yield..m i got about 2ft x 2ft space and height is about 2ft also... i really have to get a lot of research done into this ...in my county its extremely hard to get T5 HO so i gota stick to this normal 1 ft T5 ..

i was previously going to get me an 8 bulb fixture but that fell thru. But it looks like in a days I will def have a 6 bulb t5 4 foot 6500k 39k lumen fixture for veg in a 4x4 tent for about five plants, a donator and 4 veggers. I will then use a 600 watt for flower, hps lumatek setup. I will run co2 also, the hydrofarm kit.

Anyway before I drop a couple hundred on shit does anybody have any objerctions to this setup, the t5 part? For 20 extra dollars I could get the 8 bulb model with bulbs but I dont think I will need all that to veg 4-5 plants for as long as it takes to flower 4 plants.

I run a continoud 4 plant veg and 4 plant flower medical setup for myself. So I will have as long as I need to veg these ladies, up to 9 weeks for super lemon haze.

I am thinking of just cloning as I go to keep it for simple.

ps. my super lemon haze has just started to smell like the lemon awesome girl she is.
I chose her over green crack, lol, dont hate, and I am happy to be growing something that will give my girfreind a little energy that won the cannabis cup!

got my t5. It is better than anyone let on. I think their is a conspiracy to not let anyone grow as good so easy with the hush on the cool of t5s. My 6 bulb rocks! No heat. Easy to run co2. plants are growing huge! I mean awesome growth. No downside. I am just in veg. I got a flower cycle ahead of me. I wish I could use for flower. The only reason I run my exhaust is to remove smell from room. My tents leak. Lumens actually measure a steady 30 - 40 thousand somehow under the full lenght of the bulb and I can turn it down to 20 with a flip of swith. I just replaved a 600 watt mh and I am saving so much money it is sick.

I got a T5 54 watt 4ft 8 tubes and I keep it like 2 feet high from my plant i'm worried if i get it down closer to my small plant it might burn the plants. Should I put it down to like 3 iches from my plant?

@ AKDOGG: Absolutely! 3" is plenty far away. The rule of thumb is that the lights should be as close to your plants without burning them.
