My seeds are germinated... now what?

Alright so the little white roots are sticking out now so I'm going to move them into my rapid rooters tray.... do they need any nutrients yet or just water? How much should I water them? The tray has these little holes next to teach little "dirt cube"... am I supposed to pour water into the holes so it goes under the cubes (there's these ridges under the cubes but I can't tell if it's for water or something or just cosmetic)

Also... I've heard you're supposed to put a bag over it... I don't have a bag big enough but I DO have a clear see thru poncho lol. Will that work?

I'm only growing them for a couple weeks in this before I move em.

No nutes needed right now.

Water when they look and feel dry.

Humidity is good at this stage. A bag or a dome will both work.

Do I need to cover the top of the little holes (the ones I put the seeds into) with the rapid rooter dirt or just leave it open?

Put the seed in with the root tip up then cover it lightly. You don't want light to get to the roots.

you should probably do alot more research before you try to grow

I read that whole Jorge Cervantes MJ Horticulture book but I still have lots of questions and things that need to be cleared up... really want this to work. I'm using white widow seeds I got from a friend before I use the fancy indica genetics I bought online for mucho $$.

About the bag I put over the tray... does it matter how high up it is? I mean should it be stretched tight just over the surface of the dirt cubes or be high up close to the light (which I have about 4-5 inches above the tray).

That's wrong, the root tip needs to go in the hole first, seed shell at the top. But yeah, cover it lightly, you dont want light getting to the roots.

No, seriously the root tip should go up. Like all dicots the root tip wants to grow in a U shape so it has leverage to get out of the dirt. When its placed in with the root tip down it just grows up towards the surface first and back down again.

He's not dealing with a soft medium like soil. These are rapid rooter plugs and putting the root tip up is not a good idea. If you've ever germinated seeds in a towel, you'd see that the roots grow every-which-way, including the way you speak of.

That's why you shouldn't germinate in paper towels, and if you do you shouldn't let it do anything more than crack. Gravitropism applies to any medium, this is 3rd grade stuff here. It's like taking a slinky to do the job of a crow bar.

What would you suggest for germination whiteflour? Just put the seed into the rapid rooter right away? I've got about 15 non-special genetics seeds to play with before I bust out the serious stuff that I can't fuck up with.

Could you explain this a little more please? I'm literally at that stage with one of my seeds and was going to wait until tomorrow morning to put it in soil, I'd love to put it in there tonight if I could

I always germinate in paper towels. But I only let the seed crack to where i see a little green knob coming out of the seed. I always plant that up in dirt. The seed knob that's green with grow up then take a u turn down into the soil. Much like the diagram Whiteflower showed. Otherwise if you plant root stem up then the root might just surface and dry out because of your lighting. You should read a lot more before growing though. I started with just collecting seeds from local bags and trying to grow them then i went professional i bought seeds online. Will never go back. You should check out this guide on growing. I found it pretty helpful and fun. Doesn't answer everything but i hope it helps. http://rapidshare.com/files/393477106/Buds_for_Less.zip

Maybe you should reread the germination section in your Jorge Cervantes book because he talks about planting the seeds DOWN in your medium. He even goes over the paper towel technique too.

If you chose to give bad advice, please save it for the advanced growers because these beginners have no idea that you don't know what you're talking about.

I used the paper towel method, I started it last night and the seed is already cracked, easily visible with a 10x magnifying glass. I'm going to go ahead and plant it, this is a practice grow anyway and I have 2 other seeds germinating also

You should presoak the seeds first for at least 24hrs. I find it's better to do this in a glass of water since towels dry out. But either way you just want them to get saturated. 24 hours is usually enough to do that, but if you have seeds opening sooner plant them all. There's no need to wait they'll absorb any more water they need from the pellet.

Just pop it in with the point up at least 1/4" deep and then wait. They should be up in 2-3 days.
