Ok so i have heard different methods of turning your weed purple and would like to know if these are true or not. Also if anyone knows of ways to do this. Im growing hydro right now and i have heard that if you put ice bags in your resivoir the last 3 days and make the water super cold to shock the plants they will turn a shade of purple. I have also heard adding food coloring into the watering cycle can give them shades of purple. I would like to know if these things are true or fake. I would also like to know if anyone knows of any ways to actually make the plants turn purple.

Most of it actually depends on genetics. I have also heard lower temps during flowering might help, but if you want purple bud you should really just buy a blueberry strain or something.

ye a lot has to do with genetics but subject your plants to the cold in the last 3 weeks and it will turn purple

some plants will turn purple in cold, not all. food color is bs. purple maxx works on some strains

best bet is to get a purple strain that doesnt need cold

from my experience, low temps only turns real purple strains purple. the only thing low temps has done for me is to slow bud growth during low temps at nights, and delays the feeding proccess while lights are on. i use this stuff called purple maxx, and purple strains REALLY REALLY turn purple with this, along with major trichome production. wish i had pics of the side by side comparison. i got a romulan to turn purple with the purple maxx.

ice bags will shock your roots beyond imagination. you want your resevoir temps to be around 58/60 or so. with ice, i dont know what would happen other than major shock, i wouldnt let my water for hydro get cold, i use a heater for it actually...

Well i am growing Blue cheese so it has some blueberry in it but more cheese than blueberry. I think its like 1/4 to 1/3 max of blueberry in it. Will this purple maxx stuff work on Blue cheese? Also does blue cheese get purple at all i think i read it gets a blue tint as it is finishing up. Anyway my res temps now are around 63 i keep them around that area at all times and i guess i will drop them to 58-60 the last few weeks. So will this purple maxx work on my strain? Anyone have experience with Blue Cheese?

i grew blue cheese also, i think it did get a really light purple/blue hue over all the leaves, but the buds were like a bluish hue bud with lots of white trichomes. purple maxx would work on any strain =/ "purple maxx snow storm ultra" its actually pretty cheap $28/liter

purple maxx does not work on everything. it freaks some plants out. test it on one plant at half strength wait a week if its ok try one full strength if thats ok do them all. it may not work but its cheap enough so it won't hurt to try.

p.s. it does not work on og kush it turned the leaves purpleish brown with greenish yellow spots no change to the buds. it was a cool camo look but didn't help the buds

i would really not recomend starting at 1/2, i would say start at 1/4 and if it handles it after 2 weeks, bump it to 1/2 for one feeding and see if any burns 7 days later. (if you see anything, water the same amount you would use normally to dilute the nutes a bit. (if you feed with 1 gallon, water with 1 gallon of plain water phed.)

ive heard many way to turn your bud purple also , slowly lowering your night temps over a period of 2-3 weeks , and if you slowly rise your ph is another ive heard.i actually read an article on this last night in my hydroponic mag i subsribed to ... and someone wrote in (what causes the purple leaves) and the author said it was actually some sorta diffiecency, im not sure if its the same for the buds tho. im just fucking pissed that i bought some purple power and red that it doesnt actually turn purple on its own !

most of the time it is because of a deficiency. but thats when it turns non purple strains purple.

yeaa, what ive heard is the best way to turn ur plant a purple tint is to drop the temps at night during the last few weeks.. there should be like a 20 degrees F difference in your night adn day cycle.. ive never done it yet.. but a friend showed me pics of his White Widow that he did it too. adn it had a purple tint to it

i prefer my weed green, technically white. id take some sour diesel, trainwreck, white widow, white rhino over any other strains. with what looks like a nice blanket of snow or sugar on top. id rather have a purple strain mostly stay green than purple to be honest, but while using purple maxx for trichome-ization, it tends to always turn purple cuz i cant get my temps over 85. lol its nice being able to keep the temps within 10 degree difference (65-75). during the last few days i like temps to drop to low 60's high 50's. kinda denses them up and gives nice hues of purple instead of pure purple. but that depends on strain =/

For a strain to turn purple it must have anthocyanins pigments in it. If your strain does not produce these pigments then it cannot turn purple.

Generally, as a plant enters its later stages, chlorophyll starts to break down, and is lost faster than it is replaced. Dropping night temperatures increases the rate at which this happens (thats why during fall, plants have so many different colors).

As this happens, the anthocyanins pigments start to become more visible, leading to blue/red/purple buds.

Ive heard of purple maxx, but I wouldnt put too much stock into any nutrient thats suppose to turn a plant purple.

purple maxx is not supposed to turn a plant purple. they just say on the label that some of their growers had stated that the plants used with purple maxx had turned more purple than others. but this is not the reason i use it. i use it because ive had very nice trichome production since i first started using it.

I think low temps are the best way - leaving the plant out in the cold is the best way to turn buds purple. Really good true purple strains, however, will still change color even if its 80 degrees at night. Regardless of the strain, my small popcorn buds I leave on the plant after harvesting everything else have ALWAYS turned purple if left out long enough into the cold. I am sure there are some strains out there that just wont turn purple no matter what, but I have never seen one :) Everything from Green Crack to White Widow, Hawaiian Big Bud to Afwreck...even strains that aren't traditionally known to turn purple at all will start to get some color if you leave 'em out long enough.

you are 100% correct, it's original name was stacker I think, then after all the feedback they got, they changed the name to purple maxx. this product was created for resin production not to change plants colors, that was just a bonus 1/3 of growers reported
