Moby Dick - 150w HPS Closet Grow

In my relentless quest to procrastinate I snapped a few more shots. She is about a week and a half flowering and has yet to show some bud sites. I think I have located some pistils around the Y split, but disappointed that she is taking soo long to show sex.

All I have noticed are that the newest growth has downgraded in size (smaller fan leaves) and some stretching between nodes. She is looking quite healthy compared to her past days at least.

I believe that this new growth is a sign of that area turning into a bud site and that the reason I have yet to see sex is because she is immature still and had more stress than preferred in veg stage. I usually notice some budding around 2 weeks of flowering and hopefully in the next few days something will happen.

I'll only be at this location till mid May so I've come to the conclusion that she won't be able to flower as long as she properly will need. Luckily, this strain is said to flower quickly indoors and possibly she will be looking decent around 7-8 weeks flowering. Only time will tell..

The second picture is focused on a new fan leaf that is very small. I do not believe she is root bound yet and I think all environmental factors are average. Hopefully, I am not secretly stressing her any more and the switch over will be soon.

The parental stole my camera off me, but I still have a legit camera on my phone so I'm too high to do it now, but I'll grab a picture tomorrow.

She grew taller, 4 good looking main bud sites with little white pistils popping out. Pretty typical 2 weeks flowering. She dropped some of her lower fan leaves and is looking very happy with the nute mix she just got. The lights will be going off soon and she can enjoy her watering all night. I'll drop a pic update lata

Well she does seem to be doing quite well. I was gone for 9 days and had my place on lockdown, but luckily my automated setup was a success and she did not die on me. Only noticeable change was that many of the oldest fan leaves yellowed and dropped off. I wish I had more fan leaves to provide energy for the bud sites, but I believe that she will be ok regardless.

The most recent watering had 2 drops of grow it green and 2 drops of flower power in it. She looks like she might still need some nitrogen for a couple more weeks and needs some phosphorus for the bud sites. I'm going to pH the runoff next time to make sure everything is still in normal ranges.

Now that many of the fan leaves have dropped off I can really see the early topping. I am actually intrigued by how she is growing. Check out the pics and let me know what you guys think so far. Hopefully they load up decently, there from my phone camera.

Looks better everyday!! She is currently sitting out in 80 degree sunshine (privately) so that she can hopefully get that much needed fresh air that my closet does not supply. I just finished watering her, still doin the same ol' 1-2 drop of grow it green/flower power. I am very glad I pulled the two tops apart, she seems much happier not competing against herself. I finally got around to doin the pH test and it looks like the runoff is sitting around 6.5, which as far as I know, is perfect.

Not sure if it makes a difference, but all the leaves that fell off were crumbled up and placed on top of the soil. Hopefully whatever useful nutrients that remained will go back into her, for bud making. I've been sifting through the forums lately and laugh at myself when I think how small my girl is and the fact that I only have one haha I personally do not care, but this is such a small grow compared to the rest of the grows going on in the world.

I think it's about that time to make estimates on yield. I'm putting my money on 7-12 grams. Yes, this is a low yield, but it's all I need to keep me happy for the beginning of summer. I just recently went cold turkey on smoking so I could get my shit together, not a fun time in life, but a necessary move. Lookin soooo forward to a deep inhale of Moby D around May.

Yooo! Just decided on my next project..

Grow tent
htg carbon filter + fan combo
Cool tube and add a reflector to my light
4 snow white fem and 1 maui wauii fem seeds

It's gonna cost me a couple hundred, but a small price to what I should be yielding. I have been doing some seed research and I think I'm going to love snow white. That's all a future project, of course.

She's been lookin pretty good lately, but one of the leaves is looking a little warped. It should be able to be seen in the first picture. The very top pistils have been gettin lightly burnt lately I guess that is the terror of not having a cool tubed hps. All in all everything is going well and I think I have a good nute schedule keeping her healthy

Lights just turned on and I decided to catch a few shots before the light got too bright. I've been feeding her a 1-2 drop grow it green/flower power mixture per 35 ounces.

I figured that this is about a 1/2 nute dose and that because she is soo small that it would be all she needed. For some awful reason her few fan leaves are yellowing. Yes, this may be completely normal for flowering, but I'm still feeding her the regular veg. nutes (5-2-5). I guess she may be going through her normal processes, but I may just add one more drop of grow it green next watering. I do not think she should be yellowing this soon into flowering.

Luckily, she looks to be a quickly finishing strain indoors, telling by the speed of flowering she is taken. Now that I look at how many fan leaves per bud site I can tell she will hardly yield anything useful, but I'm keeping her going just for the hobby of growing.

I can't wait till my next grow. I'm finally going to make a serious setup and yield hopefully 10-14 grams per plant. Trying to grow in a closet is not a healthy environment for marijuana plants at all... Little fresh air ventilation, heating issues, reflectivity issues, etc.

Either way I do enjoy growing. Some people like having flower gardes or vegetable gardens, but I like marijauan gardens

Well if anybody wants to chime in on her current health and inspire me with some ideas, feel free. The last pH of the runoff was 6.5, so all in all she is doing good.

BTW once u get your shit together we'll have a pretty similar setup- I got the 150, 4-inch fan, filter, and tent! I'll tell ya getting that tent was one of the best moves I ever made, cause now I gots somewhere to hang my clothes!

That is definitely the setup of choice for me! I just checked out one of your grows and it looks like some major success. That is why I want to rearrange my grow methods, because closet growing just never gets me any yields, but it's still all in good fun. Feel free to post some pics of what you got.

Checked out the grow and it looked like a great success. If anyone wants to see the true vigor of the Moby Dick strain then check his thread out.

Looking into future plans still and I'm kinda settling on a 250w mh/hps conversion ballast, 4'' filter/fan combo from htgsupply.com then find a cheap 2'x2'x5' grow tent off of ebay and I think I am ready to have a successful grow. I just got my seeds in today from Nirv~na. I have 5 feminized snow whites, 5 feminized maui waui, 10 ice and 10 white widow to play with. Possibly one male of white widow or ice would be good to use as breeder males and hopefully I can keep one mother of snow white around.

Regardless, I am very excited to get everything together and start on this project. It will most likely end up being 4 females in 3 gallon pots flowering in the tent under the 250w hps + my current 150w hps for side lighting. It feels good to have a solid plan ready

I watered my girl today and she looks pretty happy. The trichs are exploding on the top colas and she is starting to get some girth going. Still looks like the two top colas will only be 3-5 grams a piece, but all in good fun.

Put her out for some fresh air exchange to get that daily CO2 and grabbed some pics, figured I'd put them up. I'll be able to keep this grow going till about May 8th, so I'm estimating she will end up 45 days flowering before chop. That leaves me with about 2 more weeks of watering before I put her into a dark period to finish out.

The plan looks to be giving her a regular nute dose (more flower power), then next time adding a hint of molasses, then next a lot of molasses, then flushing which she will be nutrient dry for a couple of days, then it's time to put her to bed for 36 hours before chop.

I'd assume this strain normally finishes around 60 days flowering and that would be especially true if you veg'd till pre-flowers were being shown. I have noticed very little smell from her lately, which is good for the house, but unsure about how much resin this strain produces. Hopefully, she will put out those resin glands in the next couple of days and once she gets the idea that (with increasing dark period) that time's up she will finish out.

Still unsure of how low the yields will be, but the trichomes are starting to take over the bud sites, which I always enjoy seeing. I'm also thinking that the nugs will be very dense due to the hps lighting and hopefully genetics.

Good to see someone saw my grow haha Good to hear someone reppin the 150w hps. I think 3 little plants is perfect for the light, I just had one fem seed, so here I am. Yes I am hoping that the top 2 colas really fill out so I can have a quarter of chronic mobyd for the beginning of summer

I keep see'n the 90w UFO LED lights popping up and I can't help but be curious about it. They look so perfect for small growers that don't want to deal with heat problems. I'm all for hps right now, but it's up in the air what light I will purchase next.

Good work with the 150w hps. I will be watching this one through to the end. I have a similar stealth shelf set up with a 150w hps. I will be interested to see what you end up with.

Whats up!

Her pistils are starting to turn and the fan leaves are getting a red coloration? Who knows, but these mini nugs seeem to be finishing out in quick fashion. The pH of the runoff was about 6.5 and I flushed today then added some molasses/flower power to top it off. Just grabbed a few pics and figured I'd upload them. Such an easy flowering, just water and watch haha I notice that any part closer to the hps gets soo many more crystals. That just makes sense though, all in all goin well. Wake n Bake

Edit: Purchased two 2 gallon and two 3 gallon air pots. Should be here in the week and I'm excited to check them out. I see this air pruning of roots to be a smart move for creating denser, healthier root structures that can assist in creating denser buds I heard that having a medium with peat helps a lot! I will be using fox farm ocean forest and fox farm nutrients with it. I believe this will work well because ocean forest is dense and has a lot of peat already in it.

She was hanging out in the sun so I grabbed a few pics. Colas fattening, trichome production increasing, in general, she is still the smallest mj plant I have ever seen haha

It saddens me that I can't let these two colas fatten up properly, but I have to cut her down by this Sunday... due to movin. Luckily, this was just a fun hobby and I will get some bowls out of it

Flushing everything out in the next day or two. Giving her 36 hours of darkness, then cut. Air pots should be here in 2 days.

Shame you gotta cut it down so early. Definately has some trichome production left in her.

My girls are on day 55. Took a sample today and couldnt even type sentences for a good 45 min. Hopefully totally done (maybe dried?) by day 70.

I was thinking of a way I could make airpots as a project in school. Plastics engineering major . Crazy design I think they vacuumform a sheet, cut it and roll it into a tube. We will find out .

This small grow is great. You sound like you have done your research and want to continue in a greater fashion with your next grow. It definately sounds like you are working with limitations, but still chugging along. I enjoy watching these smaller grows, as I recently dropped into the cabinet category myself. I'm glad that you are inspired by air pots as well daisy. Best of luck with creating some custom ones and being a plastic engineer! Nice to hear that your sample nug is already collected a high potency. From the looks of mine there will be a high thc content, but low cannaboid content because she will not get to fully finish flower. If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything. I will keep a lookout on your journals and possible custom air pots.

Great news for me, my air pots arrived! They are exactly what I needed and seem to be the perfect size, as far as my grow is concerned. I grabbed a pic under the hps so it came out crappy, but you can see what the 2 gallon looks like compared to my current pot. The three gallons are pretty big and I will be putting my sativas in them. I'm scared of how big it will make them Luckily, these air pots have plenty of holes to tie down on. LST perfection as far as I can see

Good to hear some positive comments I have been researching on RIU more then studying for exams haha I hope I can bring some knowledge to the table to help myself grow better and others that need help. I'm always tryin to help a brotha out and appreciate when the big dawgs (Uncle B) help me out. Funny enough I saw your grow the other day swelchjohn. Looks like you are getting everything together.

I must say that I am totally pro cabinet/closet growing! For us personal growers, it can yield all you will need. Take advice from TamJam69 and keep it small. His idea of a grow for now is to yield 14g a month (very admirable and smart) I am not the best example of a closet grower as I f**d this one up pretty bad and almost killer her in veg with nute burn. It can be seen on the lower fan leaves of my plant, haha o wait there are none bc the plan decided to leave the garbage and work on the healthy sites of the plant. At least my top 2 colas are fattening up really nice lately. Hoping to pull 2-3 grams a cola and 1 gram popcorn buds.
