The Falcons OG #18, K-Train, LA Confidential RDWC Grow. Looking for advice.

Dud seed? Any way you can control the water flow without turning it off? What's different about that pot compared to the others?

I'm having somewhat the same issue with my ebb and flow so I hear you and hte seedling problem this time. I have no idea how long they should be wet or should have x amount of water in the chamber after the pump turns off, etc. I'm using the sure to grow medium and so far I am not impressed. It stay wet for pretty much the entire time between cycles. Plants are growing ok. It should pick up now that I started to add nutes. Chenged the res for my bp and the e&f tonight. Only running about 200 ppm as a first go round. I'll bump it up if they look ok after a couple of days.

I could try and adjust the water flow at the manifold. I think thats probably what Im gonna have to due but none of the seedlings seem to have any roots showing through the pots. its hard to beleive that I could drown a seedling with all the air I got going on. I got two stones in each bucket including the res. they are the monster ones from drsfoster&smith that major tom posted up in the stealth hydro thread, and I got a 160l/m commercial pump running them. now Im just trying to figure out the best way to go about saving these things. the one thats not doing so well is my OG# 18 to, man that really pisses me off. thats the one I was really excited about same shit happened last grow I had a G13/Haze that was the only one I really cared about and that little bastard didnt even crack. I gotta go refill the JAMESON before I get to enraged.

Adjusting the manifold to a trickle may work. They need to follow the water to the res and if there is enough water at the bottom they will stay put and just hang out there.

well MC I got the manifold dialed in I beleive but I fear its to late for the OG and a couple of the ktrains so I started germinating another OG and an LSD that I got. hopefully one or two of the ktrains pull through. I think the LA will make it but we'll see.

Sorry to hear about that. I predict the LSD will be one of your favorite plants. It can take abuse on the nute side and you can bend it all the way through the grow and it just looks back and you and says " that all you got big boy?" LOL! I have 4 in the pot right now. Pulling on a bowl of that right now if you can;t tell. Think I'll add a little hash just for fun!

all of the seeds have been in the system about 7-10 days and growth is not waht I seen on the last grow I did even though its basically the same theory. not one of them have any roots showing that I can see and the growth is very slow if not stopped.

Are the seeds in medium, such as rockwool or a starter plug,
or did you germ them and then place them in the Hydroton?

my ph has been 5.6 -5.8 the whole time never needing any adjustment, no nutes yet, room temps are 75-82, water temps are 72-75, and the humidity is low ranging from 30-45%. the only things that I can see being a issue is the low humidity and maybe the system is overwatering maybe. but I am using the same pump as last time and never had a problem with that before.what do you guys think is it low humidy or overwatering

I think that it's both.

Put a humidity dome over each seedling
until they grow into the dome. I use clear
12oz plastic cups. Occasionally spraying in
the domes keeps your seedlings warm and
humid.

Either stop pumping water into those nets until
you get tap roots, or take the seedlings out
completely and keep them under a humidity
dome until their roots begin to show.

A ten inch net pot will stay too moist from both
the air bubbles popping water from below, and
from the water flow valve into the pot. It's just
too moist in the pot. The air is just below the net
pot, and not in the hydroton.

or maybe these kush strains are just slow starters. but the pg/nl cross was germed a week later and caught right up to the rest but then its like time froze I havent seen any substantial grow in about 3 or 4 days and for some reason the one ktrain will not straighten out it stands on its own just fine as all do but its like that one decided to grow upside down or something. all thoughts appreciated.

Again... get the seedlings into a soil-less medium for
at least a week, until you get those tap roots, and
keep the seedlings under a dome... no fans. Don't
give up on those strains yet...

Especially those germinated strains. They can bounce
back, they really can. One last thought, put either a
thrive additive, or 1/4 nutes for your setup. It's soil
grows that can go weeks from seed without nutes.

Hydro dilutes the nutes far more than soil.

These are suggestions from experience.

well guys just a quick update, I saved two of the seedlings and got another OG 18 going. the LA confidentail and one k-train survived they are the last two pics. the first pics are of the new OG and ofcourse things aint so perfect maybe you guys can tell me whats going on here.the first two sets of fan leaves started to get grey spots on them and proceeded to curl up and dry out. the leaves on the whole plant are wrinkled and the top is starting to bend over. I flushed it a few days ago and it seemed to perk up a little but the leaves are still crinkling and curling up also getting small rusty spots. the issue seems to be working its way from the bottom up. the wrinkling however is affecting the whole plant. ph is 5.8, temps are 75-80,humidity is 40-45%, and nutes are about 300ppm. what do you guys think. the last two pics are the LA and the k-train that survived the bigger one is the LA.

Not 100% sure but they look to have nute lock-up somehow. That 300 ppm at this point is kinda low and they would be helped with a little misting as in veg you want a humidity around 60% or better. If they were mine I would flush for a day, reload to about 500-600 ppm and mist them a couple times a day. Any idea what the res temp is? How do the roots look?

the res temp hangs right around 69-70. I have been misting them a few times a day, the roots on the OG and the LA are excellent. I know the 300ppm is a little low but I didnt want to over do it right after the flush. I had this happen in my first grow and never figured out what the problem was they kind of grew out of it but then out of nowhere I would get a large fan leaf here and there that would do it once they were older and I was never able to get the leaves to recover once they were wrinkled they stayed that way. the more I look at it its almost like a mg def on the lower leaves that have the spots. I still dont get the wrinkling, the new growth up top shows signs of it right off the bat but the growing branches do not but they due show slight edge curl up. I am wondering if my tap water at 150ppm doesnt have enough cal or mg? but youd think at this stage the nutes would supply enough of that stuff.

Well I've got 350ppm water and from the analysis it has a lot a cal but it's not the right kind of cal (big chucks not usable by the plant) but it's enough to supress the mag. I have added cal-mag to each res change for the last 5 grows and the plants thrive. You might want to try that as a remedy for your problem. Both cal and mag support plant growth and distribution of nutes. Without it it likes having rust in thier pipes.

anyone else have any ideas? well MC I went out yesterday and got some calmag and added half the recommended dosage and so far I havent noticed any improvement but maybe its still a little early to tell. the main branch top doesnt seem to be growing to much but the other branches are growing to beat hell. I feel the spots are from a mg def as it started on the bottom and is slowly working to the newer fan leaves but I still dont understand why the leaves are wrinkled right off the bat and are so droopy. I cant believe it would be an overwater issue I should have plenty of air in the buckets. I also bumped the nutes up to around 500ppm. I gues we'll see what happens in the next day or two.

Yes, we will see. It may take 2-3 days for the cal-mag to work it's magic if it is a mag problem. Told you, growing is trial and error for the most part. I find that it helps a lot to know the strain over several grows so keep good notes of problems and fixes.

well heres some new pics taken today. they seem to be growing pretty good now but still all kinds of wrinkling and edge curl. I am still getting the wierd spots that start out as grey then turn brown and then turn yellow from the center out. all kinds of odd stuff. I have worked my nutes up to 1000ppm and the growth rate has improved with no outrite signs of burn. ph has been stable at 5.8 from the get go. temps are still 79-82 I dont know whats going on here. at first I thought to many nutes but my smallest plant the pg/nl cross has the least of the problems so I figured that meant that it was getting what it needed and that maybe the rest needed more so I raised the ppm slowly over the last week and growth rate has been pretty good but still all the funny looking leaves. any ideas guys? the first pic is the OG 18, the second is the LA con, the third is the ktrain and the fourth is my NL/PG cross.

Hey polishfalcon, I have been following and I see that you are still having issues. What has your humidity been at recently? I know it was 40-45% before, which is a little low, but I don't think it would cause the problems you are having. Either way, it couldn't hurt to raise the humidity some. The recommended humidity during vegetative growth is 60-70% so if you add some wet wash cloths or cups of water or whatever you can to raise the humidity to at least 60% I'm sure it would help some.

the humidity is still in the 40-45% range. its been an ongoing battle I bought a humidifier but that didnt help much. winter time and having the heat on in the house draws all the moisture out. Ive been misting them 3-4 times a day but I dont know if that helps more than it hurts.

You can't hurt them by misting them. Definitely keep doing it and that rules out humidity as the root of your problem. I really wish I could help more.

I have heard/read that also but I have never seen any proof to back it up, so I say keep misting unless you see spots.

well I do have spots but Im not sure what is causing them. they start out as grey splotches and then turn brown and the bronze or yellow starting from the inside out.
