Health care reform backers won a key victory Saturday night as the Senate voted to move ahead with a floor debate on a sweeping $848 billion bill. The 60-39 vote to prevent a Republican filibuster against the start of debate on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's legislation broke down along strict party lines. All 58 Senate Democrats -- along with independent Sens. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Bernie Sanders of Vermont -- supported bringing the measure to the floor..Let the talks began.... Obama 2012

Let's see them read the bill on the floor. Most of these people don't even know what's in the bill, 2000 pages, yet their willing to pass it. This will be the democrats patriot act.

SENATE'S HEALTH BILL
Key components of the Senate's health care bill:

• Includes a government-run public health insurance option.

• Prohibits illegal immigrants from participating in a health insurance exchange created for those unable to afford health coverage.

• Prohibits the use of federal funds for abortion coverage in the exchange.

• Increases Medicare payroll tax on individuals earning $200,000 a year and couples earning $250,000 a year.

• Requires individuals to buy health insurance, with a fine for noncompliance.

• Does not mandate that all employers offer health care.

• Prevents insurance companies from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions.

Do you people see nothing wrong with a 2000 page bill, that most if not all haven't read? We can all agree that the government shouldn't be trusted, yet you still put your faith in it. How is Obama any different from any other politician? He's a liar, and he's an appeaser. He has said himself that he wants to have a single payer system, and has also said that it will not be achieved in one shot. He knows that once the government gets its foot in the door, it's all over. How do you think you have the right to determine that the rich must provide for the poor? We should just raise taxes for the rich, give to the poor, obamahood in the house.

I am for hc reform but I have one question for those that have followed this closely. How do they expect some people to be able to pay or be fined. Say a homeless person or someone making minimum wage. Can someone explain how this part is supposed to work?

if you cannot afford to pay then they will have subsidize coverage insurance for low- and some middle-income families

What I don't understand is that most people with insurance like it, yet we are going to replace it with a system that is failing. The government can't run anything efficiently, they always underscore costs, and they have a reputation for being untrustworthy. There are plenty of things we can do that would decrease costs and such without getting the government involved, and the majority of Americans are against this government takeover. Even the Chinese government can see that this won't work. I've never heard of an instance where a communist country gave advise to an American president, but I guess Obama's setting the standards.

If it means everyone can get a chance to get needed health care then so be it..right now we have mandatory car insurance..I don't have a problem with that either....Heck if you got kids your frame of mind should be that you have to have it anyway.... so yes Health Care For All

No they don't, it is the number one concern of Americans, the only ones that are happy are the ones already receiving govt insurance (medicare). Ironically these are the same ones against any change.

You against the mail service too? 50 cents to mail a letter from LA to NY in 3 days, FEDEX charges $25 for the same service.

Yet during 8 years of the Bush admin insurance costs went up 150% and not a peep out of repugs.

First of all, keep government out of the private sector. This bill is forcing the rich to provide for the poor. Take money from the rich to "subsidize" the poor. What incentive will there be for people to follow the American dream? If we are all created equal, and have equal opportunities, then why are certain individuals getting more? The people who support the democrats monstrosity are poor people who can't afford healthcare, so they expect the "greedy" rich to take care of them. To answer your question, tort reform, tax credits, individual health care savings accounts, not allowing illegals to get procedures, among others.
Are you telling me you've read the whole bill, and are some kind of expert on it? I've read sections, but being over 2000 pages, it might take a while to get through. Are you telling me you don't see anything wrong throughout the entire bill? How can you support something like this when all you hear from democrats is the patriot act, and how wrong it was for that to get passed?
You say you can keep what you got, but how do you expect private companies to compete with the government when they are the one's who set the rules, change the rules, have unlimited funds(from raising taxes), and so on? They are trying to get their foot in the door, because like Obama said, his goal is to have a single payer system. Eventually, there will be no private insurance companies, you will be forced on the government program, wether you like it or not, and there will be no way to call out injustices in the system, seeing as citizens have no power or influence over what goes on in the government.
